Watched Babadook the other day. The horror elements in that film are pretty lacking but the emotional stress the main character goess through just in her everyday life were uncomfortable to watch.

Has anyone else experienced moments in films, shows, or games that made you very uncomfortable? There's one that makes my chest ache whenever I think about it. It's from Game of Thrones, and while the show tends to show things like murder and rape in a negative light (as it should), there's one moment they just gloss over:

The age of adulthood in Westeros (therefore the age at which you can consumate a marriage) is 16. Tommen Baratheon is 15, Margaery Tyrell is 24ish. In the books, they can't consumate the marriage because Tommen is underage (12 in the books, Margaery is 17 in the books). Do they keep that for the show? Of course not. Instead, Margaery RAPES Tommen (since he's underage, it IS rape) multiple times, and then BRAGS about it to her ladyfriends. Holy. Shit. I was able to tolerate turning Margaery into an Anne Boleyn clone, but this crosses the line as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone else got any moments that make you uncomfortable?
I... what? out of all the ways they could have changed her character they did THAT?! I haven't watched the show and have only read the books and its because of weird changes like that that makes me not want to watch the show. Some of the other changes I'm strangely okay with like Renly and sir Loras being lovers but that was only because it was kind of implied in the books to begin with.

Anyways I just can't stand awkward cringe inducing moments in shows or movies (more often than not comedies). I just feel extremely embarrassed watching someone stick there foot in there mouth or doing something monumentally stupid.

When kids with super powers/whatever have to hide them from their family/general public in invariably stupidly embarrassing ways.

Oh, yeah, and gratuitous violence, especially rape and torture, but that's obvious.

Slow deaths. The ones that stick out in my mind are Jamie Smith in Black Hawk Down, Mikey in Rocky III, and Joey in Sometimes a Great Notion
Remember Saving Private Ryan where that dude was getting stabbed real slow when help was just downstairs? The guy on the stairs was afraid to come up and help, meanwhile his ally is up there fighting for his life. I hate that scene more than any other in the movie.

Hmm...

I've always had an issue with torture porn films, or extreme gore, or (for some reason) home invasion themed horror movies. The latter unreasonably upsets me, the previous two just offer me absolutely nothing but squick. I'll not watch any of them.

I'm starting to lose my belly for emotionally distressing movies as I age. When I was younger I'd cheerfully watch Requiem for a Dream or Boy's Don't Cry or other punishing films repeatedly, and show them to friends. Now, I need a lot of pushing to watch emotionally crushing films. I will if they're extremely acclaimed, but it's a once and done kind of thing now.

It's not a deal-breaker, but since my Dad passed I can do without father-son bonding moments and/or "dying father" drama. I had a mild emotional breakdown trying to describe the plot of Field of Dreams to the girlfriend. Shit like "Dear Zachary", as acclaimed as it is, is on my "Can Never Watch" list now.

I hate cringe comedy. I can't stand it. Well, except for in Watamote.
You too, huh? Same. I wonder what it is about Watamote that doesn't turn me off like other cringe comedy shows? My best guess would be that in most cases, the cringe is self-inflicted, so you kind of feel like she brought it upon herself. If anything, I like that the only thing presented as hostile and oppressive is Tomoko's own mind. The show seems to present everyone around her as being pretty harmless, or even friendly.

I'm taking a serious risk writing this, since I really don't want the image burned into my brain, but any scene that involves damage inflicted upon fingernails. I recall a scene from the Battle Royale manga where someone is trying to climb a well with her bare hands, or a torture scene in Blade of the Immortal, or that scene in Witcher 3, which I won't spoil. Nothing makes me cringe like the mental image of stuff like that.

Statutory Rape is in a completely different area from Rape. Not to mention it's never explicitly said 15, but around age 15. Which in a lot of countries is a mere year away from the legal age of consent. Not to mention...it's Westeros. Is there even such a thing as age of consent? If not then while it may be a bit odd, wouldn't be considered rape. And if all the things in that show is what bothers you (no mention of Meryn Trant and his thing for way, way younger women in a brothel?) is that scene...christ. Your priorities are all wrong.

OT: Nothing really. I'm really desensitize to a lot of things that have traumatized others. I used to watch The Knick whilst eating dinner, and for those who have seen that show, you know how realistically graphic it is.
Statutory rape is still a form of rape. The reason it's different than something like Meryn Trant is that the show makes it clear that what he's doing is disturbing; the show tends to show horrible things in a negative light, but this one instance is merely glossed over. Even the actor playing Tommen found it disturbing and uncomfortable; frankly, they should've just stuck to the books in this instance, since there's no reason for such a change.

That show was called Geno Cyber and it's probably one of the vilest anime's out there. And not because it was violent, but because it shows no regard or respect for it. It's like watching a vicious child torture an animal, and not even gleefully, but with a banal look on his face. I've seen hentai that had more class then this anime. It came out in an era when the hard-edged, post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk genre was popular in anime, so a lot of studios just made really trashy anime filled with shock value. And Geno Cyber was the worst of them all.
Ah yes, that was the name, thanks. I have a very bad memory when it comes to names of movies, persons and so on. Or my mind just tried to supress the memories (to no avail). Hm, but now that you've mentioned it.. Yeah, this movie just had a very bleak/spiteful feel to it, like the director/writer/whoever just had a very bad day because someone took a dump in his muesli and shagged his favourite toaster.

I hope you're right and this was the worst of them. If it comes to a second round with despicable stuff of this magnitude... Blimey! I don't think I could take it.

I watched The Wolf of Wall Street with my parents. I didn't know.

I'm fine with watching pretty much anything without family around though.

The one that come to my mind was in Eureka Seven. Well two things that happened in it-

1 When the anti coral creature things rose up from the corals and attack the people nearby. While the violence in that scene wasn't over the top glorify (Geno Cyber kinda traumatised me) but it made me uncomfortable.

2 Speaking of uncomfortable, the later episode when we get to see that facility into making Anemone the way she is aka a human experience on little girls. Seeing several girls being experimental on did not sit well with me!!!

Black Lagoon had quite a few episodes that involved really uncomfortable stuff. Especially the Hansel and Gretel Arc. The episode of the Tokyo arc at the recreation center wasn't particularly fun either.

Much of the series "Monster" is also this way, due to lots of
child abuse, both physical and psychological.

Captcha: Bait the line? That's messed up.

Bravely Default. Everything in and around Florem.
The paedophilia, both by Sage Yulyana and De Rosa. Also trying to get Agnes into "sexy" clothes. Those altered ages aren't fooling anyone, Square. They're still blatantly children.

I totally forgot about that, and I agree, yes. It creates an anticipational (is that even a word? Ehh, doesn't matter) feeling quite similar to the curb scene in American History X. Perhaps this is related to empathy? But yeah, fingernails doing that, is quite unpleasant to think of feeling. How do we shut off that sensitivity?

Mainly around shameless fanservice scenes. Particularly when the subject of them is under age.

There was also the scene in Watchmen when the prisoner is covered in boiling kitchen grease and screaming in agony.

There's a weird uncanny-valley effect I feel when I watch 'caught on camera pranks'. Some of these can be really, really good but then there are other pranks that I just can't watch. Things that involve being stupid at random people really make me uncomfortable for example. Other than that if I'm watching or reading an adaptation of something and the adaptation takes a lot of liberties with established characters I sometimes find that kind of offensive. Teen Titans Go is what I have in mind there...where Robin is psychotic, Cyborg and Beast Boy are morons and, Raven has no qualms literally killing her team if it means she can hang out with old people. Another thing that comes to mind is Liefeld's run on Deathstroke where he takes Lobo 100% seriously and removes all humor from the character...and creates a female Lobo...and I don't care for Liefeld's take on Slade but Lobo really got shafted.

My housemate started to watch Hannibal as I was eating my dinner, and at the time I couldn't be bothered moving to another room. Needless to say after about ten minutes I had moved into another room and to this day I refuse to watch the series. That was the last time I truly felt uncomfortable.
