I find the term African American to be racist. The friggen game takes place in Africa. These are Africans.

Besides using that terminology I don't see people running around calling white people from South Africa African Americans. I also never see people having a problem calling white people white. Nobody calls me a "Mexican American" probably cause I would either punch them in the face or tell them all about how I was born in Washington Friggen State and I am an AMERICAN.

The double standard is racist. If you are going to call people by their skin tone then call them all by their skin tone. If you are going to call them by nationality then call them by nationality.
I would like to point out, the argument was never "There are Africans in RE5! It's racist!", but most of the time it was "The way these Africans are depicted is racist." But I don't want to go down that spiral again, let's just move on.

OT: MadWorld is more violent than all the GTAs, "Murder Simulators", and Racism combined, I think that deserves it's own space in the "Controversial but not targeted" totem ;)
You are right about that one. My rant had to do with the backwards racism I see all the time, people don't seem to realize that all political correctness does anymore is place groups on their appropriate pads, letting everyone know they are different, and we are not, we are all people.

Never played MadWorld, but with that ringing endorsement I am off to the store to pick up a copy!

We've all seen and heard the fuss about the apparent "racism" in games like Resident Evil 5, and heard of the Hot Coffee breach of all things decent, but have you noticed that a LOT of more offensive content doesn't get looked at twice? What's something that offended you/you knew people were going to get up in arms about, but no one actually did? Or, alternatively, politically incorrect stuff that you are NOT surprised no one ever talked about in negative context?

For me, even though the scene is a bit obscure, I'm amazed no major media freaked out at the baby-eating/abortion scene in Silent Hill 3. I'd say that it's because it's horror, but RE5 didn't get a break...
Maybe becuase the fetus wasn't actually human and it was arguably abortion since she threw it up. But yeah i get your point.

I can't think of any other example. I would say any murder but most games include killing.

Pokemon, anyone? You capture them, and then make them fight each other until one "faints". But let's be honest, using hyperbeam on that level 2 Pidgey did not just make it "faint". Sounds a lot like animal fighting to me.

the mutilated baby monsters you could stamp the skulls of (dead space)

the mutilated child ghosts with their intestines hanging out (jericho)

the ability to make ppl slaves against their will and the ability to become a very successful slave trader (fallout 3)

men being tortured, raped against walls, repeatedly anal probed by rusty harpoons and crucified by their skin (jericho)

whoever thought resi 5 was racist is just trying too hard -_-

What I'm surprised at is why no one ever goes after the Punch-Out!! games, yet everyone you fight in them is an ethnic stereotype (save for maybe Aran Ryan). Glass Joe (the cowardly fighter from France) throws out croissants, even.

MadWorld got targeted a little bit by some British website, but other than that, it was pretty much ignored. It's not available in Germany, though.

I have a huge beef with GTA4 (not really, I'm joking)

In GTA4 in the mission where you slaughter a bunch of union construction workers I was made quite mad by two things:

1) The stereotyped Italians call Niko a stupid Polak. I'm Polish and go fuck yourself.

2) All union members are obviously mafia members (and are also fat dumb Italians with that stupid sounding New Yawk accent, which is also obviously what all Italians are like).

But in all honesty I only pointed those out to highlight the fact that there's a lot of stupid things you can get mad about in games. If you're like that you need to go join PETA and become a professional annoyance to someone else who doesn't care.

However I do feel there have been some games that present you with the option of doing some truly fucked up shit. Killing kids (or seeing it), aliens raping stuff, selling people into slavery, slaughtering civilians etc. I have yet to hear the outrage over that, and if there were I still wouldn't get it.

Resident evil is totally racist. It took them FIVE FUCKING GAMES to include african americans.
To be fair, Raccoon City is in the American Midwest, which is largely all white smallvilles.
