Cowboy Bebop came out in 1998 and the Street Fighter 2 movie came out in 1994. So, Cowboy Bebop is "younger" than Street Fighter 2.
But the OP was talking about Sword of the Stranger, from 2007, when he made that remark. Unless he made that remark in mockery before posting a slightly younger clip from Street Fighter. Now I'm confused.

No mention of Fooly Cooly's final fight?

Buncha uncultured anime fans y'all are!

Gives me goosebumps every time I watch it.

Also, Soul Eater.

Now you're confusing me DX

I quoted Daystar after he poked fun at the OP for showing off a newer anime. So in essence, Daystar makes fun of OP by showing older anime and I make fun of Daystar by showing an even older anime than Daystar showed. I am pretty sure that's what happened.

You kids and your new animes.
Aaaaand now I'm depressed. I'm agreeing 110% with Daystar Clarion. The end of Cowboy Bebop is, without a doubt, the greatest fight scene ever. God I wish Cowboy Bebop never ended...

Basically everything from cowboy bebop. The best thing about it was that every character had his/her own way of moving and fighting, which made it come alive so much more.

OP: I'm going to support Bebop with this clip from Ballad of the Fallen Angels. Which is unfortunately in English.

At five sessions it wraps up nicely the intro and lays out the rest of the show's tone, style and motives quite coolly.
Ahhh yes, the good ol' half-way point of the series. Fan-frickin'-tastic fight. Love the music, love the action, and love how the fight ends.

And since we're talking Cowboy Bebop, you CAN'T forget Pierre le Fou!

As for my vote, I'd say Kenshin vs Shishio is the best fight in Anime. Sadly, the fight takes a few episodes and there's a lot of pauses for "clash of philosophy" conversations between Kenshin and Shishio and there's not a good youtube video that edits all the fighting together.

But here's Kenshin unleashing his ultimate attack on Shishio...which I'd say is the greatest sword-based ultimate attack in Anime (at least in terms of "TRYING to be realistic" swordplay)

Sadly I can't find a video of the first time Kenshin uses that attack (which is against Aoshi) cause I think that moment carries a lot more weight than when he busts it out against Shishio.

Whatevs man. You kids and your slightly younger anime...
Wouldn't that be slightly "older" anime?

It's better in english, since it lacks the absurd melodrama that permeates 90% of japanese VAs.

I have been a lurker for years now, but I had to join to share this. Surprised no one else has already.

Alucard from Hellsing. So badass its not even really a contest.

Anyways, if you have never checked it out, the OVAs are pretty awesome. Story, animation, everything is awesome. One of my favorites of all time i would venture to say. Usually i dont go for vampire stuff either, but i cant deny the baddassery of this show. and this is one of the earlier fight scenes...

Anyways, always enjoy reading posts guys, thanks!

Snap! Speaking of Rurouni Kenshin...

I can't believe I forgot this. I think the Kenshin OVAs were the first anime I bought on DVD, and that was back when I was on an allowance. That's how good they are. Also...

ROGAFUFUKEN

Yamcha is badass. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Hmmm, recently i've noticed I don't really do anime where there are fight scenes anymore. I mean Psycho Pass was relatively recent and that had no spectacular "fight scenes" per se. I'm not into battle anime as much anymore. I like badass conversations more. Who can quote philosophy at each other harder?

I was really into Hyouka, which is basically 4 people talking in a multitude of rooms for 20 episodes. It has the BEST camerawork i've ever seen in an anime to make that interesting to watch. And it WORKS

Buuuuuut i'm going to throw my Hipster Card into the ring.

Needless. Like, all of it. It's the definition of a generic battle anime but it has so much STYLE and HUMOUR and the soundtrack is like 20 different guitar solos meshed together and it just does not give a single FUCK about anything. So good. Don't believe me? Allow me to play my trump card.

IT DON'T GIVE A FUCK BOY! NOPE! NOOOOOOOOOPE! SIT THE FUCK DOWN! WE GOT ANOTHER 24 EPISODES TO GO!

The Street Fighter 2 movie always had one of my favorite fights in anime:
It's strange how remarkably not over the top this is for a Street Fighter fight. Not that chucking couches is exactly normal, but it feels very grounded nonetheless. Can you believe the original Japanese version had soft piano music playing to this? Also, don't you miss the days when anime characters had a physical bulk to them?

Anyway, as for me:

Too bad it ends with her getting murdered to death, but atleast she went out with a bang.
Might wanna mention that there's a pretty big NGE spoiler in that box there.

OT: It's silly and over the top as shit but god fucking dammit I love Gurren Lagann.
Also this is the movie where they take it even more over the top. Didn't even think that was possible.

Also I remember having good memories of Goku vs Frieza but in retrospect...
A FOUR FUCKING HOUR LONG FIGHT WHAT

Ooh, I do like the stuff in Baccano. The music, the animation, just everything. So cool.

It didn't happen, because it was terrible.

This is the first time I've ever seen this opinion. The internet is a strange place.

OT: I find the fight scenes usually drag on a shittonne in anime, and regularly get bored in them. I did enjoy the Suzuku/Karen battle at the end of Code Geass, mostly due to the polygons emotions!

What a great thread. I'll go back and take a look at some of these, but I need to contribute as well.

Karasu vs. Fukurou in Noein.
Oh, and spoiler warning. This is a pretty intense fight, but moreso if you've followed the show up to that point.
The unique animation style, the cool powers, the high speed exchanges, the overwhelmingly ominous soundtrack.. It's pretty much perfect.

I just finished Sword of the Stranger after a friend recommended it to me when we were discussing on which anime had the best fight scene(in which I was quick to point out Hei vs. Wei's first match up in the anime Darker than Black) and my friend was quick to say that despite not really having the best story, the best fight scene had to be Bones' Sword of the Stranger.

I highly recommend this movie, since the whole plot(Actual plot, considering how Japan tends to screw up the simplest of premises) actually services the climax of the anime.

I have to say, I'm extremely happy that somebody else besides me has seen sword of the stranger. I saw it in a one day event at fathom events then bought the DVD but never came across someone else who has seen it. And I have to agree, in context that final battle was absolutely epic.

The second-to-last fight of Avatar is probably my favourite, mainly because it's such an intelligent resolution, as opposed to the usual "they fight for a bit and then one of them wins".

Couldn't find a higher quality version though. Sorry about that
I can only agree with you. This fight is a perfect resolution for the difference in the siblings character growth and it is the first time I truly felt sorry for Azula. In that fight she not only lost but it was the moment where she literally lost everything. You see the howl of a human who lost every reason she had in her mind for her existance. Her superiority: gone (she wasn't able to defeat Zuko 1on1 and even after resorting to dirty tricks she lost), her heritage: gone (Zuko won the title), her friends were already gone, her father would not come back for someone who was defeated by a lowskilled son he himself gave up years ago... And finally she lost her mind.
And to top it off she's the rightful heir, she was wronged of her heritage.
Seriously, read the latest comic series, Zuko isn't even Ozai's son.
