Under what circumstances would you become a Mercenary?

Give me training, a squad to hide behind and £50,000 a mission, that should about cut it.

1) I don't have to become a part of a PMC. I want to be freelancer
2) I don't kill innocent civilians/defenseless people
3) I'm not asked to do a suicide mission

That's about it. I don't really care about the pay, it's not like I have anything else to do.

give me some ammo and a direction and i'll go.....not to say i dont have personal morals or politics that would make me refuse certain missions. but hey, i'd fight for money.

To price to buy a cyanide pill or bullet to make my life as a mercenary as short as possible.

Mercenaries are perhaps the greatest scum to exist. I'd rather die.
That's a pretty misguided statement considering that are currently employed in YOUR country and help take money off of taxpayers. Besides that they allow for work that the military simply cannot do because of boundaries.
i think that's after a few bad incidents with companies like black water mercenaries got a bad wrap. while you could argue that being paid for serving is immoral, at the same time they do get put in extreme danger and they do have to eat. and unfortunately sometimes it becomes the only work some veterans are able to do after war time.
shit happens i guess.

Actually, I can think of a perfectly good and honest reason for not wanting to indeed take any price.

Spite.

You can't force compliance. In fact, by merely suggesting that literally 100% of humanity can be bought, the whole thing is invalidated because I simply don't have to. I am sorry, but you shouldn't challenge people like that.

Call me old timey, but I like the payment system of the middle ages, a simple system, a system that rewards people as they work and encourages initiative: The right to loot and pillage >:D gimme that, and I'm set.
This works for me! I'd go merc long before I go back to the military, I like the idea of picking whether or not I want to go to some sandy hell rather than being told to go there.

all it would take would be a well worded request. though i would much rather be a bounty hunter... what qualification do you need for that?

It would have to be a few circumstances:

my country's army couldn't be involved or I'd just join them as a soldier.

I can't be a guerilla/freedom fighter instead because it's not on my home turf.

It would have to be a foreign land, with a war between two or more opponents that I don't care the slightest about. Spanish Civil War, for example, or maybe the invasion of North Korea a la Mercenaries 1.

I would never take a human life with money as the only reason, there would have to be more than that.
So far I haven't seen a price worth killing anyone over. Perhaps if I got to pick my targets so I can make sure I only take out people who deserve it... but idk really

I honestly believe that everyone is a murderer at heart. After centuries of relative peace we have grown more tame, some more than others; But I believe that when it comes down to it, every single man and woman is capable of murder, be it in self defense or otherwise. And I do think that once the first kill is drawn, none of the consecutive ones will as hard. And many people do acquire a taste for killing. But I digress, still, if you were a Merc fighting say, Zombies. Wouldn't you do it?

Let me answer for you: Fuck Yeah.

Why? Because you are avoiding killing because of moral qualms, but oh! Zombies are not alive, they're merely a shell of what used to be a man, a woman, a lover. I'd like to take this chance to link to this:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/extra-punctuation/8387-Extra-Punctuation-Why-We-Love-Zombies

Since I feel it fits quite well. At least down on a primal level, I'm pretty sure everyone is capable of murder. Perhaps even you would do it if you found your life at risk? After all, we do have a pretty strong self-preservation sense. WE are not a flock of sheep that would wait to be slaughtered. WE would fight to our last spit breath before dying in complacency. So yes, I think even WE would fight to protect our lives, even if it meant being a mercenary.
I'd like you to read that.

Anyhow, Literally everyone has a price, or a reason strong enough to do it. You really just don't know it; But what if your native country was in really serious fighting? You could join the army, sure, but here's Catch-22. If you join the army you will have a decent paycheck, you will eat and such. However, the money you gain this way isn't enough to keep your loved ones (Be it friends, family or your lover) safe. However, you find that if you join the Mercenary force, or PMC however you want to call it you will STILL fight for your Country, but you'll be payed well enough to afford flying your family out and placing them somewhere safe.

Even if this sounds an over-reach, would you still really not do it in this situation? Because I think that if anyone answers no to this they're just throwing a temper tantrum.

Only when cybernetics become useful. I'd trade in my eyes, maybe my arms, and get a merc group of cyborg soldiers and do the jobs that require finesse and stealth to handle.

I have already done merc work over seas as I was briefly employed by a pmc for a single contract. I suppose I would do so again, should I decide to go back (read: should they increase my pay).
