What games in 2011 were truly amazing for you, but forgotten and unappreciated by others?

My vote has got to go with inFAMOUS 2. It's almost as good a game as Skyrim, in my opinion. It managed to improve over the original in pretty much every way, and it was graphically impressive and beautiful. The story was also quite good, the missions varied, and I welled up with tears at the good (cannon) ending. Everything about it was really well executed, and yet nobody gives it any attention or mention at year's end.

So, what game do you think needs more attention?

Apparently Bulletstorm didn't sell very well. I don't think the marketing for it adequately conveyed just how fun the game is. The story was surprisingly well-executed also. The game was definitely overlooked by the majority of gamers. Hell, even I would have overlooked it if my cousin hadn't gotten it for me as a Christmas present.

Although it sold well it gets bad rep in alot of places:

Pokemon Black and White were great painkiller the Pokemon series needed (4th gen for me was the reviving Stimpak necessary to bring it back from the dead and be as god-like as the 2nd generation, this is only because the 3rd generation was missing the details necessary and sent the franchise into shock)

Also,

If Dead Space 1 was Alien then Dead Space 2 was Aliens, in this case being louder, more badass, still creepy and well thought out. I loved it yet its often not talked about here. Besides, I probobly am one of the few people to admit that I found the "Your mom hates this" campaign actually funny.

To me, its the little details that make a game great, to the rain in skyrim affecting the surface water of some lake/pond/shore, to the lighted letters appearing on both Isaac Clarke and the floor below him when an advertisement decides to flicker while walking down a creepy hallway.

Drakensang: River of time. Have you heard about it? No? I'm really not surprised.

If you like deep CRPGs, then you should give this game a try, because outside of indie CRPGs, this is one of the deepest (gamesystemwise) CRPGs in years. But if you live outside of the US, Germany (or Great Britain, I think), then I'm sorry, but you are in for an uphill struggle trying to find a copy, because no download store will offer it, and importing a copy has proven to be a lot harder than you would imagine. Still, to any CRPG lover out there: Get this game!

Atom Zombie Smasher and bastion for me.

Zombies were fun to kill, bastion was hack'n'slash'n'shoot fun and both good at story telling in their own way with awesome music

Some people i know played these games but these were underrated

I'll second this.

Ordinarily I usually don't care much for linear hallway crawlers. So I passed over Dead Space 1, but the screenshots of Dead Space 2 interested me. I read a few reviews, which all seemed to point towards it being pretty "meh", so I waited a few months and got it on discount... Boy was I shocked at how fun it was.

(I then bought Dead Space 1 as well) Dead Space 1 may have been slightly "creepier" due to all the machine noises keeping you on edge, Dead Space 2 was a lot more "fun" and had much better action sequences, a talking protagonist, and simply awesome environments.

How many of you bought Persona 2: Innocent Sin? I thought so. 'Tis a shame when a very good game gets no recognition.

I have to go with catherine . So many people dismissed it thinking it was some hentai , love sim game with puzzles . People are quick to judge and miss out on a great game . Funny thing is no one who has played the game would say that .

Well persona 2 isn't technically a 2011 game , thats like saying metal gear solid HD edition . Plus it's a psp game , not many people play the psp anymore , let alone a dungeon crawling time sink like persona on a handheld .

Pokemon Black and White. It sold well enough, but many hardcore Pokemon fans dismissed it by look and didn't give it a chance. It was very fun.

Dragon Age II also got some undeserved hatred in my opinion. Sure it was flawed, but it was a great character-driven soap opera and marks the first time since Chrono Trigger I've cared about all the party members. The only major problem I had with it was that the missions outside Kirkwall never got different environments.

Bastion was underappreciated simply because it was independent. Independent games just don't sell as well as big mainstream AAA games. It's a shame, because it was one of the best independent games I've ever played.

More people need to talk about Kirby's Return to Dreamland. Seriously.

Kirby Super Star was not only my favorite Kirby game but probably my favorite Super Nintendo game period, and this is pretty much a bigger version of that. I really like the Kirby games where you can do different kinds of attacks with the same power (Example: usually the Spark ability is just an electric field around you, but here, you can also shoot lightning upward or downward), and this game delivers in droves. Plus, some of the new power-ups that Kirby can gain are incredibly fun to use, like Water's ability to ride waves over enemies, or the Spear's ability to let you hover while you spin it above your head. There are also times when Kirby can gain Super Abilities (or "Superstar Powers", as I liked to call them until I found out their actual name). When Kirby gains these, he WRECKS EVERYTHING IN SIGHT (as long as it has a Star mark showing) with massive swords, or fiery dragons, or giant snowballs.

The first night I was playing this game, I just felt so happy. There was nothing really complicated about this: I was breezing through it getting pretty much every Energy Sphere in sight. But still I pressed on: slashing, whipping, burning, splashing, and eating pretty much anything in my way. It's a kind of joy of messing around in a colorful, cartoony toy box that stays with you for at least an hour after you stop playing it. :')

Oh yeah, and I'll second... third... fourth (I guess) Pokemon Black and White, too. For the main story, it feels like it moves faster than a lot of the older games, using faster battle graphics and certain mechanics in the game that make it easier to level up than in the past. However, it does feel like opponents hit a bit harder than usual. I'd say this is probably the best Pokemon game you can get for someone new to the series, since it actually teaches players about the basic mechanics of the game pretty quickly and easily, unlike some past games of the franchise (the original Red and Blue can suck Misty's Starmie 'til it rips their faces off!). It'll be a little bit before you start finding wild Pokemon worth using, but there are some cool ones around Nacrene City (fourth town in the game); once you reach the desert (one city later), you'll either be loving the monsters because you're using them to wipe out everyone around you or hating them because they're beating you badly. I still prefer Platinum and HeartGold, personally, but Black and White are nice ways to get your feet wet in Pokemon (and probably what most Pokemon players will be raising monsters on now, anyway).

I feel Skyward Sword is a little under appreciated, at least on this site. I have been gone for a while so I probably missed something, but I haven't seen anyone mentioning a word about it, nor have I seen it make on anyone's list. It's easily my favorite game of the year. I actually like it better than Skyrim, and that was my most anticipated game all year (but I'm still loving Skyrim.)

One for me is definitely Disgaea 4. Sure, there's only so much innovation that you can possibly have in a SRPG, but for what it is it's an incredibly deep, incredibly funny title.

Another is Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. While I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as it's predecessor it's still a good, balls-to-the-wall explosionfest. It's literally what you would get if Michael Bay made a video game. "Oh God, things are moving over there! BLOW THEM UUUUUUP!"

Skyrim. Pffffffffft as if.
But my vote go towards Little Big Planet 2 although most people regarded as a little kids game it was still very good and enjoyable for older people out there.

Alice: Madness returns.

Great game from my point of view. Lots of variety in the level design and the story was top shelf.

I've heard a few complaints about the graphics (Got it on ps3 and it looks great to me) and some small amounts praise but not much else. Good to see Steve Butts put it in his top 5 this year though.

Hegemony Gold: Wars of Ancient Greece. [http://www.longbowgames.com/hegemony/]

I keep having to bring it up, and nobody pays attention...

...They should. It manages to bridge the gap between Total War-style territorial grand strategy and real-time tactical battles, and (while not the most graphically impressive, polished game out there) is something genuinely new in this year of sequels.

Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings was the best game I've played in 2011.I have been waiting for the title for over 5 years and it has been an awesome wait, the complete package being fantastic.

I have heard no one talking about it at all at the "Best of 2011 awards" on multiple sites.Really an underappreciated and underrated game compared to all the mainstream so called "RPG's".

Skyr- *gets shot in the knee by an arrow*

Nah, in all seriousness, I don't think Dissidia 012 Duodecim: Final Fantasy got enough attention, which is a shame, because the first Dissidia had a lot of hype surrounding it. It's literally got everything the first had, with a ton of new stuff for characters, like equipment, and moves, 6 or 7 new characters, a totally revamped story mode, as well as the entire story from the first Dissidia. Seriously, it's just all around better than the first one.
