A few of the movies the OP mentioned, if categorised by myself, would fall in the thriller genre rather than the horror genre.

Personally, I would say pretty much any horror movie in the late 80s - mid 90's period are amazing. My grandma used to babysit for me a lot and she would always let me watch horror movies. When I stopped being scared... that's when I realised I was a MAN!

Halloween 3, why does no one rate this movie? The most common place criticism is that "it doesn't have Michael Myers" The same people that say this also dismiss four through six because there all the same. I love it I have it on Dvd and watch it time after time I love it!

Also Doomsday, the Descent and Dog soldiers.

Ok dog soldiers is seriously underated, but halloween 3 was not awful for its lack of michael myers, it was about a company with evil stone henge superpowered shamrock halloween masks.

Drag Me To Hell

It's really more of a comedy, but it's really entertaining. (I don't know if it's underrated, I just don't hear about it much and it didn't gross that much either.)
Yeah pretty much this, It has that Evil Dead feel while still being scary, even if a good few are jump scares.

Nobody mentioned "Martyrs"....definitely NOT for the squeamish. And, yes, the Guinea Pig series is almost disgusting. Almost.
How about the original "The Hills have Eyes 1 & 2"?
