Understandably upset about the vita

Its AT&T bud. They live to Screw Customers. If you want Unlimited data for your Vita, here is a simple fix

1. Get an Android Smartphone, make sure you get unlimited data on it, plans are priced conservatively.
2. Turn your Vita on Wifi Mode.
3. Turn Android into Wifi Hotspot
4. Unlimited Take anywhere Wifi for Netflix and such

Thats how a buddy of mine uses his Vita. Its fast and doesnt require having AT&T take money from you

I honestly wish that 3G could go to any provider of your choice. AT&T are terrible thieves and having worked for them twice in the past, they aren't getting any better. I love my Vita, and am excited to see where it goes from here. Chin up man

Someone told you that Vita had these functions that you wanted, when it did not you get upset at the Vita and Sony because the Vita did not have the desired functions? You shouldn't be upset with the Vita nor Sony. You should be annoyed that someone told you something that wasn't true. You did not second guess the credibility of what you were told, you did not do proper research. Thus it is your fault that you ended up being disappointed. Sure it sucks, but don't blame the Vita or Sony for not providing what they never actually claimed they'd provide.

I am pissed off at him. They did say that it might be a phone last year, which was the last news I heard of it.

That would be the Phone that Verizon and Quest are ditching. Can't remember the name of it. The Xperia, thats the one. It was given to the worst Cellphone carriers, and wasn't given a fair chance. Its a shame.

In that case I guess I'll guess I will just wish you good luck and hopefully you'll come to like it once the game library grows and new functions get added and remember it for the good things rather than the fact you bought it on false premises.

The problem with the thread is really the title. I don't think anyone's all that bothered by someone saying "crap, I messed up thanks to believing my friend who was wrong and now I'm out of luck." What the issue is is that it's being put forward as a problem with the Vita itself, which it is clearly not. Sony has never advertised the Vita as a phone. If there was an issue with the data plan, that's not on Sony either as they don't control the data plan just the type of internet connection the Vita has.

I think what might have confused people about it being a phone was the Xperia was announced around the same time or earlier and there are rumors of The Vita getting a Skype app, which in essence will make it a phone.

If you wanted other people to discuss the mistakes they've made with technological purchases, that's probably something you should have stated from the get-go. Such as, "Have you ever made a mistake like this? Let's hear about it!" This thread was directionless, and it left people open to interpret what it was about. The assumption was made that you wanted to be coddled for your mistake and that's where we are now.

Have I ever made a mistake like this? No. Even if my friends tell me about something, I always look it up. Even when my Husband tells me about something new, I always look it up. I love him, but that doesn't mean he can't be seriously mistaken about something he's heard. I wont even spend 50 dollars on something until I read what I can about it. $350 is a lot of dough, jack. Your situation sucks if that's how badly you feel about it. But you know, live and learn and all that garbage.

Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware. If you failed to research the features of the Vita, its your fault not Sony's. I don't remember any news/press releases/etc. that are recent that state it was a phone. Prior news releases (at the announcement a year or so ago) said it "might" be a phone. Nothing since has said otherwise therefore its no surprise its NOT.

Wifi 3g is all I heard and I'm not 100% interested in it for that. Also you're the idiot for buying a product at launch and expecting a ton of new things to play with when its LAUNCH DAY for a console (handheld or not). Past experience should have taught you that LAUNCH DAY always sucks and you should wait a few months for more products to be released and bugs to be worked out.
So no sympathy for you.

Actually, I think he was quite polite in the way he explained that even the slightest bit of research could have saved you this trouble. Sure, you already knew it was you fault for not doing any real research, but even a quick search of wikipedia could likely have corrected many of your unfounded assumptions, which is what amaranth was essentially getting at.

Nowhere in his post was he being rude or insulting you. In fact, the majority of the people in this thread, while perhaps lacking in sympathy, haven't gone and insulted you. Most are simply agreeing with you.

So I'd say that you've learned an important lesson through this purchase, and should also grow a thicker skin before you open yourself up to criticism which is entirely justified again.

Doesn't look like youre upset about the console. You are upset because you made a bad deal. Well you should have made some research on it, thats all there is to it. I personally havent messed up with that much cash, but i spend at least a few hours researching stuff online that i'm gonna buy, picking out my new graphics card gave me a headache.

While I can't be entirely sympathetic, I would like to point out that there's some mixed information on the Vita online which could result in similar issues.
For example, I read a review on CVG which clearly states that:

Plus there are hidden costs: if six weeks spent living with the PS Vita have taught us anything, it's that anyone who buys one will also have to invest in a (proprietary) memory card, because the 16Gb one provided as standard fills up very swiftly. Prospective PS Vita owners will have to be both keen gamers and pretty flush financially.

Despite the fact that the Vita has no included memory card, and even if it did, it wouldn't be the 16Gb model.
There's also some confusion over the whole memory card thing as some places say you need one for pretty much everything, and others say that you'll only need one for games which don't have built in save space, such as Uncharted.

The data limits on the 3G model do make it kind of pointless, especially if your phone has unlimited data and the ability to work as a Wifi hotspot, though calling it "unlimited" (or "all you can eat" in my case) is kind of a lie (3 only gives me 1Gb per month on their unlimited plan).

I've been looking into the Vita myself recently as I have a load of old 360 games (including Tales of Vesperia, which is rare over here) and a Wii I rarely use, so they could be sold to pay a fair amount of the cost.
My phone (HTC Sensation) has enough grunt to power the games available for it, but the battery is fairly hopeless for gaming.

I'm starting to realize why Sony made the Vita a total rip-off: they're selling it to gamers, enough of whom will just buy the latest shiny thing without looking into how much of a ripoff it is.

Sorry OP but maybe the reason why people are insulting you is because you're one of the reasons the game industry keeps trying to rip all of us off. Enough people will fall for it and hand over their money without any second thought; which leaves the rest of us looking at the game industry scratching our heads and saying "how the fuck are they getting away with this?".

So i got the launch 350$ vita with the game and 4gb card.

So i bought the pack yesterday and found out they didn't offer unlimited data, the reason is obvious why I wanted unlimited, I like watching netflix and playing games on the go, So i was understandably upset when I found they didn't offer unlimited data. I was also misinformed and was told that it could be used as a phone, but I'm not seeing anything about that, just 3g gaming.

Here is what I EASILY could have done.

250$ - 50$ memory unit 16GB enough to hold all my music and all my digital movie copies. + like 3 games. Which I wouldn't even put all my music and movies on there so like a lot more.

3 games I could have bought actually 4 since I bought katamari.

I know this is just stupidity on my part but I SERIOUSLY want to go return this, get the 250$ one and get my damn money back because I feel like I wasted all that money, and now I won't be able to get the memory unit for awhile, and I won't be able to get any more games for awhile.

Also I'll always have that stupid little AT&T symbol in the corner of my menus which pisses me off.

Welcome to modern commerce. People have told manufacturers they will buy what ever they are told to buy and even pay for the privilege. It only gets worse from here.

As for ATT, they have been resisting UD everywhere they can and creating phantom threshholding for years now. Only time in earnest they tried was in the pre 3G era and even that was limited to XML data. Honestly it should be no surprise that they did not create an UD just for the Vita when they made no suh concession for apple. I mean can you really trust a company who can process over 1000 Zetabytes per switch per second, yet threshholds you at 5gb per month.

I really dont see why anyone would have bought this at launch except those with the intention of hacking it to high heaven while exploits are still fairly easy.

I am "worse" I do not spend 20 euro on games/electronica (or whatever) without knowing what i am getting. Everything is expensive enough without spending a lot of money on something i was uninformed about. I mean with the internet age it is so easy to look up if what other people tell you is true or not.
