what are some settings/time periods that you think havn't been used enough.

i think there need to be more games set in really natural forest settings. how about you?

I don't know of any games that anyone's made in a desert setting. It could be cool...

Bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, anywhere between 1672-1814.

More seriously, though, there should be games in some modern Israeli conflict. FPS or RTS, I don't care. I'd like to see how the developers do finding people with Israeli accents.

The Wild Wild West would be showered in awesome sauce.
Man, a real Western-themed video game would be great. I only played a minimal amount of Gun, but that is just about the only Western game in recent history. (Some of you may remember Outlaws from way back when.)

I'm honestly really surprised that there are so few games with this backdrop. It seems a natural setting for a game.

-Victorian Era
-Under the sea (Has some good ones but not enough dammit)
-The Moon
-On board a space station
-Anything with Norse Mythology (But actually staying true to it, Battle for Asgard was a travesty, and I won't even bother getting Too Human, Vikings didn't have guns)
-Wild West (some really goods ones but not enough)
-Korea in the 1950s
-Vietnam (from the end of world war two onwards, I'd like to see Americans playing a game where the French are actually fighting, might break the stereotype)
-The Boer war
-World war one
-The Zulu wars
-The Maori Land wars (You probably don't know what that is, but to give you an idea, the Maori essentially invented trench warfare.)
-Inside the human body
-Inside a computer/the Internet
-Inside the human subconscious.
-From the point of view of: A Crab, Squirrel, Monkey, Rat, Rhinoceros, Bird of Prey, Otter, Beaver, Crocodile, Scorpion, Spider, Turtle, Shark, Rabbit or Amoeba
-A deathmatch game made for kids where instead of guns they have calculators that shoot out equations, if hit they have to solve it within a certain time limit or they lose.
-On a ship in the middle of the cold Atlantic.
-On a cruise ship in the pacific
-Terry Pratchett's discworld
-Stone age
-Crimean war
-World war two from the point of view of the Russians
-World war two from the point of view of the ANZACs
-An RPG from the point of view of a monster, having to fight off heroes
-A linear game, in which once the game has been played through once, the protagonist is aware of what happened (aware that he/she is in a game) and will attempt to change the course of what happened so that the bad stuff doesn't repeat itself. And having the storyline constantly evolve.
-A game set in Canada
-A game set in (modern) Egypt.
-A game set in Atlantis
-Hell
-A game where the large hadron collider has tore open a warp gate into an unknown dimension

Okay that turned more into a list of ideas rather than settings... but there are a few settings ideas in there.

Edit: That list looked a lot smalled before I posted it, I should probably write all these ideas down somewhere (well you know... write it down on something that isn't the internet)

Business sims (small business, shops, etc). Making it more entertaining is another issue... perhaps if it was developed by Michael Bay.

But, seriously, it has potential to also be a little educational/interesting if someone can make it entertaining.

i can't help you with the other three, but the roman, with no magic, try Shadow of Rome. an old game, but it was awesome.

Also,a game at sea(both above or below)would be great.Especially a Free-roam like Wind waker,only not a zelda game.

And a game aboard in airship would be great.(i just read Ken Oppel's Airborn and think airships are awesome.)

Lemme help you narrow that list down Iron Ninja:

space station - Mass effect (actually containing many different space stations on a large flavor of worlds.)

inside the human body - trauma center and its many sequals and spin-offs (you really only spend the first and last 5 seconds on the outside of the body, while the rest of the time is either spent making boring chit-chat with hot nurses and doctors in exponentially increasing stages of expertise and mental instability; or inside a man suffering strep-throat shooting lazer-beams at microscopic battleships)

inside the human subconsious - Psychonauts (would you like your mental patient manic, depressive, or a deadly meat-carnivalesque combination of the two?)

from the point of view of a (many animals listed here) - Rattatoli and many other disney movie games (honestly I'm suprised by now the gaming industry hasen't invented a chemical to spray for these kinds of pests.)

on a ship in the atlantic/ pacific - The deadliest catch, the video game (yes it exists, no I don't know why)

stone age - most any civilization game, or any like it (many rts' start you off in the stone age and force you to evolve)

WW2 russian perspective - ... damn, you're right, why haven't they made that?

Monster rpg with monster as main character - Rampage (some of the newer versions)

Linear game where player can go back and change events - Prince of Persia (1-3 and others) I'm right on this one; think about it.

Modern Egypt - I don't remember the tittle exactly, but there are quite a few computer games about archeology in modern egypt (puzzle games all)

atlantis - Kingdom Hearts 1/2 (/3??? lol, no) (In Ariel's world) or if there have been any little mermaid games.

Hell - Guitar Hero 3 (Lou's Inferno). Also, hellgate london (I know that was set in london, but I'm sure the game's london residents would assure you it was just as good as the real deal.)

A game where a blah blah blah creates a portal, somethin somethin teleporting - ... damn, another one I can't recall the name to... it was a popular t.v. show that's gonna be released as a VG either recently, or soon. whatever.

NOTE: I do agree that many of these games are not so good, in fact, most of them turned out to be terrible (psychonauts, guitar hero and mass effect as a few obvious exceptions), but they still count! If you want the companies to make a GOOD game in that setting, just tell them! (or else they'll think you just haven't heard of it and they will begin massive ad campains promoting their many sluggish, poorly-made sequals)

P.s. the name of the show I couldn't guess before was stargate atlantis.

P.p.s. "A game above or below the sea, not zelda" wow, has everyone already forgotten Bioshock?

I am full well aware of all those games. I'm saying there should be more like them. Which is sort of the point of the whole thread.

Hell, have it take place on the Discworld. That kind of plot is convoluted enough to fit in nice and fine
