It's probably happened to you.
That one game you're extremely excited to play, have heard SO many good things about it, finally sit down to play it... and it kinda sucks.
For me, that game is Silent Hill 2.

I was really excited to play it, honestly. I mean, I'm a big fan of survival horror. I just eat that shit up. And I never played a SH game before, and with so many big fans (can't go anywhere without seeing a frickin' Pyramid Head picture somewhere), I figured 2 would be the best place to start.

I'm really surprised Yahtzee jacks off to likes the game actually, since he rips solid games for having even smaller problems than those in SH2. I mean, fuck. The characters are all completely unlikable, combat is a headache (normally I can deal with that when playing survival horror though), none of the monsters are remotely scary nor was the atmosphere wasn't the slightest big creepy (and I'm the biggest pussy you will ever come across, I shit you not), the plot was a joke, and fuck those tank controls. The puzzles were the only thing remotely entertaining, and I HATE puzzle games.

I kept playing waiting for the pay off, and then I realized I was just getting extremely frustrated and was trying to convince myself (unsuccessfully) that I was having fun. I mean, if you're playing a video game and you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong dammit.

So yeah, TL;DR - look at thread title.

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is the first game that pops into my head at the moment. I just couldn't get into it as much as all my other games.

Fable 2 was pretty underwhelming as well, but i wasn't expecting much from it anyway...

Any game by Valve. If I'd have been told they were pretty damn good I could have agreed with it. However, being forced to sit down and play while being told it was the greatest game ever made under threat of being sacrificed to Gabe Newell (the second part of that was for emphasis and not actually what happened) then it really didn't live up to expectations.

I got AvP for the 360 because I loved AvP 2 which I had on the PC. Put it in, played for about an hour. Never touched it again.

Borderlands, Alone in the Dark and Rainbow Six: Vegas. Those are the three games i view as the most underwhelming experiences iv ever had in my fairly long life of gaming

Fallout New Vegas. It's like they combined everything that I hate in games into one package: Clunky controls, mind-numbing combat, boring traveling, ridiculous dialogue and story, loading screens up the ass, annoying characters, endless "Walk point A to point B" quests and game-breaking glitches. I understand it wasn't my type of game from the start, but when I hate EVERY part of a game it deserves special nomination on my wall of shitty games.

Dead Space. I was promised a game in which would send me into a nightmarish hellhole that faintly smells of urine. What do I get? A Bland Moneyhole that still smells faintly of urine (I'm working on that).

My complaint isn't against any sort of gameplay, it's efficient (maybe a little too efficient) It just seem to be trying too hard, announcing every monster with an a-tonal string, trying to get the jump on you, build the tension by having the same three notes in the background. Excuse me if that just seems to be a cheap shot. It hits you with scare jumps, that cease to be scary when used more than once (That is all the time), it flickers with the lighting, smears blood and messages on the wall and pulls out every cheap trick into getting a forced startle.

The ultimate ***** on this game is that I just don't care. Even the main mission "find the girl," (going back to the basics I see), is rendered utterly uninteresting because I just can't begin to relate to a mute with a bucket on his head. I know all of these things have been said before, but honestly, I expect my horror to be... scary. I guess there's a certain element in the idea that most of these things I'm sawing in half, with what seems to be a glorified tazor gun, used to be human. But then again, Typing of the Dead was about killing things that used to be human, it doesn't make it the unfinished magnus opus of Lovecraft.

Fable 3 don't get me wrong it's a fun game but it was too short and the way your morality changes the appearance sucked, no horns for being evil seriously. Also L.A Noire.

Killzone 2. I haven't been a big fan of console FPS games since Halo and Timesplitters 2 on the original Xbox, but it was getting such great reviews all over the place that I decided to pick it up when I had some vouchers. I played through it once, but I only bothered because I felt like I had to. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't special. Yeah, it looked pretty good, but that can't carry a game.

I had more fun replaying Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the PC a few months ago.

Probably L4D, I originally bought the game (for 360) to do split-screen with a friend of mine and wassn't that impressed by the local coop play. Granted, I havn't actually played it online, so maybe my opinion is flawed.

Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. I found it no where near as good as AC-5.
Navel OPS 2 completely sucked. (Thankfully I rented it first so I never bought it).
Those are the only two that come to memory right now and I'm sure theres more.

Resident Evil 5

They fucked it up.

Zombies in Africa would be awesome. It's like if The Ghost and the Darkness dragged George Romero screaming off into the brush to sit down and tell them what he learned and how he could apply it to scaring other people.

Too bad this is the Capcom riding off the success of Resident Evil 4 while trying to attract the Left 4 Dead crowd instead of Resident Evil 2.

L.A. Noire. Lack luster concept, wasted space, and the facial ticks were cool for like 10 minutes then I realized that actors acting like they are lying doesn't show how people lie.

*GASP*

For me Bioshock, yes it was pretty, very pretty in fact, but underwhelming in every other way.

Dungeons although as a publisher Kalpyso generally produces games that look and sound interesting but are lacking in depth

For me it would be Oblivion. I liked Fallout 3 and Morrowwind so I figured that Oblivion would be right up my alley. To bad it sucked.
