An English teacher that plays WoW? The beehive game of improper grammar and 1337chat? That poor man...Last of the Chinchillas said:Well, most probably wouldn't expect my dad to play video games, but considering that I grew up with him, it's not odd at all to me.
He's a middle-aged high school English teacher, essentially introduced me to gaming from a very early age, and is a nigh unstoppable force in WoW these days.
My name is Naheal, formerly of Twisting Nether. I'm a WoW survivor.paiged said:Haha that's awesome though, considering how many souls that game has consumed.AWC Viper said:My Cousin is a Big WoW nerd. she is online for like the entire week then goes to a party on saturday. *gasp'* a WoW nerd with a social life.
That happens to me frequently... I zone out in class, and my friend asks what's up.. I told him I just bought Mass Effect and was wondering whether I should make an Adept or a Vanguard.Sonicron said:Heh, I know what that feels like. I also have a good friend who happens to be a really attractive girl, and when we and some of our other friends were out on a little pub crawl she was sitting on her bar stool, just staring off into the distance. So I'd nudge her and ask what's on her mind, and she responds, "Just thinking about whether I should create a new character for Ultima Online and what it's going to be..."Freakout456 said:There's a friend of mine who is a girl and who is also very attractive. I was spluttering unintelligible sounds for about 10 seconds before bursting into laughter.
This is pretty much my dad. He used to be a youth pastor, so some people would be quite surprised to find out he thinks Fallout 3 is both a masterpiece of storytelling and some pretty good fun. (Fun fact! When he took the G.O.A.T., it told him he was meant to be the Vault Chaplain. Huge laughs from everyone in the room.)Last of the Chinchillas said:Well, most probably wouldn't expect my dad to play video games, but considering that I grew up with him, it's not odd at all to me.
Amazing, you are the first I have seen of this species. How long have you been clean?Naheal said:My name is Naheal, formerly of Twisting Nether. Two months. I moved to Warhammer, but quit that game fairly quicklypaiged said:Amazing, you are the first I have seen of this species. How long have you been clean?
Also, footnote: I was no way implying that I myself am pretty, just that I wasn't a monster.though its a common misconception that girls don't exist in the world of gaming, although many are now becoming aware that this is in fact, a lie.
And OT: I remember finding out that my gym teacher in 12th grade (muscular ex football/wrestling star for our school) was pretty heavily addicted to counterstrike one point. I always pictured him spending more time perfecting the guns attatched to his body than shooting the pixelized ones.
Only one way to get an answer to that question.Aqualung said:That happens to me frequently... I zone out in class, and my friend asks what's up.. It's amazing how well I can confuse people just by having boobs. But it makes me wonder, how good a distraction would they be were I to enter a gaming tournament...?
Interesting you should say that. Me and my friends were often dismissed for having poor social skills or general loner qualities for even mentioning we were gamers. Hell, me and my best friend kicked up a joke about creating the Western Australian Hardcore Gaming Society, consisting of me.. and him. And that's it... Yes, it was a poor joke.Aqualung said:Uh... I am. My history class is filled with gamer guys, so when we're talking about the Renaissance, they'll be cracking jokes about Assassin's Creed 2, I'll throw in a joke too, and they'll be all surprised.
Or when I wouldn't stop talking about Fallout 3 last year. People assume by the way I look (see profile picture) that I couldn't possibly be a nerd; that my favourite movies are Lord of the Rings, or that I'd give my pinky over losing my XBox.
That is one epic maths question. Can't think of anyone unexpected that plays videogames at the moment though.Arbitrary Cidin said:Joey has forged a circular map on Avalanche. He drives a Warthog around the track with a constant speed of 55 km/h. What is his average velocity for one lap? If he enables speedhack, and begins driving with an average speed of 500 km/h, by how much will his average velocity increase?
Best. Physics teacher. EVER.Arbitrary Cidin said:I'm sure a lot of you guys know people (or are one of these people) who you'd never guess would be video game junkies. Priests, teachers, grandparents, whatever. I bring this up, because I discovered my Physics teacher is a die-hard Halo fan. Last Friday, we had a test on velocity, gravity, and acceleration formulas. When I got to the final question, I saw this:
Joey has forged a circular map on Avalanche. He drives a Warthog around the track with a constant speed of 55 km/h. What is his average velocity for one lap? If he enables speedhack, and begins driving with an average speed of 500 km/h, by how much will his average velocity increase?
While the physics nerds like myself are rolling their eyes at the trick question, the point is that he's an Halo fanboy (He's old, so he's a fanman, I guess). Oh and he took a personal day today, September 22, and it wasn't Rosh Hashanah. What came out today, my fellow Escapists? You got it.
My point is this. Who are the people in your life that play video games who you wouldn't expect to?
