Haha that's awesome though, considering how many souls that game has consumed.

ME!

I'm pretty much the "jocky/popular" kind. Most people don't know I play games unless they know me well. Hell, lots of girls who find out are really confused, they can't believe it.

Ps, Your teacher rocks

Well, most probably wouldn't expect my dad to play video games, but considering that I grew up with him, it's not odd at all to me.

He's a middle-aged high school English teacher, essentially introduced me to gaming from a very early age, and is a nigh unstoppable force in WoW these days.
An English teacher that plays WoW? The beehive game of improper grammar and 1337chat? That poor man...

Didn't realize that 'pretty girls' was going to be a top cantidate in this thread, but it reminds me of another example. There's this girl on my bus, very petite looking, usually reads her books on the ride home. I think the entire bus was in shock when she at one point said "*****, I'll shoot you in the face with a Lancer and Curb Stomp you!"

My little sister

she's 13, and up to only a month of two ago i never played multiplayer games with her, but after figuring its worth a shot, she proved good at simple games like 'splosion man and other indies,

so i moved on to FPS's, and my sister actually does pretty well in halo 3, gears of war 2, and left 4 dead,

My Dad plays videogames, but, being old enough to talk spiritedly, about selecting a computer with either two megabytes of RAM or *gasp* FOUR, he doesn't really follow it TOO closely, he only plays half life games, but he recently decided to brave left 4 dead on our xbox, but he isn't... proficient with a controller

There's a friend of mine who is a girl and who is also very attractive. And I was utterly speachless when she started talking about getting the cruicible in Fable 2.
Heh, I know what that feels like. I also have a good friend who happens to be a really attractive girl, and when we and some of our other friends were out on a little pub crawl she was sitting on her bar stool, just staring off into the distance. So I'd nudge her and ask what's on her mind, and she responds, "Just thinking about whether I should create a new character for Ultima Online and what it's going to be..."
I was spluttering unintelligible sounds for about 10 seconds before bursting into laughter.
That happens to me frequently... I zone out in class, and my friend asks what's up.. I told him I just bought Mass Effect and was wondering whether I should make an Adept or a Vanguard.

It's amazing how well I can confuse people just by having boobs. But it makes me wonder, how good a distraction would they be were I to enter a gaming tournament...?

My girlfriend digs RPGs (we're both currently playing NWN2, and bought NWN1 plus expansions for cheap a few weeks ago) and puzzle games (World of Goo!).

Also, my brother's (primary school) science teacher is a Civ fanatic. Cool guy.

This is pretty much my dad. He used to be a youth pastor, so some people would be quite surprised to find out he thinks Fallout 3 is both a masterpiece of storytelling and some pretty good fun. (Fun fact! When he took the G.O.A.T., it told him he was meant to be the Vault Chaplain. Huge laughs from everyone in the room.)

Amazing, you are the first I have seen of this species. How long have you been clean?

Also, footnote: I was no way implying that I myself am pretty, just that I wasn't a monster. :) though its a common misconception that girls don't exist in the world of gaming, although many are now becoming aware that this is in fact, a lie.

And OT: I remember finding out that my gym teacher in 12th grade (muscular ex football/wrestling star for our school) was pretty heavily addicted to counterstrike one point. I always pictured him spending more time perfecting the guns attatched to his body than shooting the pixelized ones.

Two months. I moved to Warhammer, but quit that game fairly quickly

Only one way to get an answer to that question.
Sign up for a tournament and leave your top at the door.

This woman working at McDonald's. Now, I don't mean that in a bad way. It just really surprised me. I went in there one day wearing my Resident Evil 5 shirt and after I order, I'm standing on the side, waiting for it. No one else is in line so she starts asking me if RE5 is good because she wanted to get it but it was too expensive. So she starts talking about RE4 and how fun it was to blow the Ganados to pieces with the shotguns and how she became really good with head shots and the Rifle and...yeah. My expression was probably somewhat shock at first.

She was an older woman. Gray hair, looked around 50, I think. Just not someone that I expected loved "blowing Ganados to bloody pieces." o_O

Uh... I am. My history class is filled with gamer guys, so when we're talking about the Renaissance, they'll be cracking jokes about Assassin's Creed 2, I'll throw in a joke too, and they'll be all surprised.

Or when I wouldn't stop talking about Fallout 3 last year. People assume by the way I look (see profile picture) that I couldn't possibly be a nerd; that my favourite movies are Lord of the Rings, or that I'd give my pinky over losing my XBox.
Interesting you should say that. Me and my friends were often dismissed for having poor social skills or general loner qualities for even mentioning we were gamers. Hell, me and my best friend kicked up a joke about creating the Western Australian Hardcore Gaming Society, consisting of me.. and him. And that's it... Yes, it was a poor joke.

Loads of us played PC/ Console Games, Warhammer, D&D and so on but if you mentioned those to a teacher, fellow friendly class mate, or otherwise, you could see their perception of you shift instantly in their eyes. It's good to hear the culture has come to far!

On Topic:

Mmm. No surprises as such - I've had a couple of "So, what are you into?" "Oh, games" ":O" moments, but they quickly evolve into gaming conversations.. Or I out-dork them...

Joey has forged a circular map on Avalanche. He drives a Warthog around the track with a constant speed of 55 km/h. What is his average velocity for one lap? If he enables speedhack, and begins driving with an average speed of 500 km/h, by how much will his average velocity increase?
That is one epic maths question. Can't think of anyone unexpected that plays videogames at the moment though.

I'm sure a lot of you guys know people (or are one of these people) who you'd never guess would be video game junkies. Priests, teachers, grandparents, whatever. I bring this up, because I discovered my Physics teacher is a die-hard Halo fan. Last Friday, we had a test on velocity, gravity, and acceleration formulas. When I got to the final question, I saw this:

Joey has forged a circular map on Avalanche. He drives a Warthog around the track with a constant speed of 55 km/h. What is his average velocity for one lap? If he enables speedhack, and begins driving with an average speed of 500 km/h, by how much will his average velocity increase?

While the physics nerds like myself are rolling their eyes at the trick question, the point is that he's an Halo fanboy (He's old, so he's a fanman, I guess). Oh and he took a personal day today, September 22, and it wasn't Rosh Hashanah. What came out today, my fellow Escapists? You got it.

My point is this. Who are the people in your life that play video games who you wouldn't expect to?
Best. Physics teacher. EVER.

Mine is this girl I've seen since my first year in High School but never ever talked to her, started up conversation with her at a party around a month ago and made her cry with laughter.

One night at a friend's house she was also there as I myself invited her along, and some of my friends (most play games quite a bit) were talking about the Wii and Nintendo games. I turned to her and was like "Haha, you probably think we're all nerds or something now, eh?"

Her response surprised me: "Nah, I play games. I love driving around in Vice City and using the sniper rifle on people, it makes their heads blow off and blood comes out. It's hilarious."

Took me by surprise. She's now my girlfriend.

One time in high school (Avondale College, to be precise) a teacher put a message in the Daily Notices that he needed help in Jak II.
