I got a message from Blizzard, stating that there are accusations about me trying to sell my World of Warcraft account, and that I need to confirm or risk termination of my account.

The strange thing is... I don't have a World of Warcraft account, nor have I ever registered for one in my e-mail.

Does anyone know what's going on?

No but I had to delete mine a year ago cause someone was using it and I had not used it (or payed it) since the end of 2006.

It is a phishing scam. They are trying email addresses that they have farmed from somewhere in order to get account info from people. It is not from Blizzard and any of the links will go to some other site most likely made up to look official but it isn't. Just ignore it.

hehe...i get the same messages, have for years. i actually had an account, but its cancelled; still get the messages. dozens of them, from different email addresses.

obvious spam; always says i need to 'confirm' account information (read: credit card numbers). just block/mark as spam what-have-you.

Yeah I get about 5 of these a day. It's just spam as mentioned above. In all reality unless you are expecting a message from blizzard, it's a trap.

I got this in chat while playing WoW many times. It was just some dumb hacker trying to trick me into giving him my account.

Wait, you don't even have a WoW account... that is weird. Is the hacker that retarded.

This is the method by which account "hackers" steal stuff.

I put these "hackers" in quotation marks 'cos it's not hacking at all, but social engineering.

It's a scam/virus, I get tonnes saying they are blizzard, but the only blizzard emails I open now are the ones that are sent to me when I change my password etc.

It's an account theft scam. Basically they tell you to enter your account information to "confirm you still have ownership" or something along those lines, then they take all of your stuff and sell it for real currency. I get them literally every single day.

It's that WoW Email Scam. I got one early 2010. I almost fell for the eBay & Amazon scams, but I don;t have a WoW account.

This man speaks the truth. EVERY EMAIL YOU RECEIVE IS A PHISHING SCAM. BE AFRAID. PARANOIA IS YOUR ONLY REFUGE.
