There is one thing that seems to be missing in MMORPG's like WoW and Lineage 2 and that is the threat of getting instadeathed. If you see in games like Neverwinter nights (even though it has Persistant Worlds, it's not completely MMORPG) there are spells that can instakill anyone, which is totally awesome in my book. Also a good fighter there would be able to get crits of 200+ at lvl 40 which is dangerous since chars have an average health of 600.

All in all, you feel a sense of threat throughout the game, and you actually feel your developement. If you have a game like WoW, the enemies health/damage increases when you progress, and thats pretty much it.

Does any of you know an mmorpg where you can get instakilled by another player while both at lvl max?

... That would be maybe the most annoying feature of any game. Why would you want instant deaths?

FFXI kills you fast. Only one battle has insta-deaths though, and that is End-Game. As in, the hardest fight you can do.

But that's all I know.

Man I detest that game, but if you want a game which punishes you its this one. Very difficult to level, and extremely difficult fights depending on choice of char.

Well yes, but see how much you like it after you spent the last half an hour waling towards that area, even with death penalties and close respawn we still have to go through a lot again and deal with the weakness, which is really annoying against a boss. It's just got too many annoying qualities to work effectively as part of a game.

Ragnarok Online Asura Champion, if you're not using the proper defenses it will kill you in one hit.
On official servers it's not too difficult to break 100,000 damage when most players have less than 50,000 health. The only problem would be trying to survive because the second you use Asura in PvP, you've lost all your offensive power.(the skill does damage based mana, and burns away all your mana even if you miss)

I would say all of them, because they steal your life and such.
That's pretty unforgiving.

so that you dont really have to be the ultimate badass warrior; meerly the timid little creature hiding in the bushes 100 yards away, casting said instadeath spell, and feeling like said ultimate badass warrior

just a thought...

If that's what floats your boat.
Try Age of Conan, last time I played (quite a while ago, but they don't patch often, so I reckon not much has changed.) every class had some way of 1 or 2 shotting another class.

In the early days Eve Online was pretty hardcore. You'd have to mine forever to get material to build your own bullets, and the price of a bullet might not be equal to the bounty you'd get for shooting something with them. Now it's all roses and rainbows, even if you still lose your ship and its equipment and cargo if you die. And dying extra hard can lose you billions of stardollars in headwear. And if you die too much you can theoretically lose all progress you might have made in the game's five years of existence.

The person is saying you spend so much time playing that it is like you have no outside social life. By way of creative thinking you die, to the outside world at least. MMo hate is quite the "in" thing right now.

Got it. And also, I hated MMOs way before it was cool.

Because if the player can be instadeathed, the enemies can too :). This makes a much faster gameplay then the hackhackhackhackhackhackstunhackhackhackhackhackstunhealhackhackhack gameplay :p.

haha I can see why instadeath spells/attacks would be appealing for nonPVP play, but it would get SO ANNOYING if some guy could just come up and kill you with one hit. And if you argue 'what if everyone had one" then it would just be a game waiting on respawns and cooldowns on that one instadeath move haha. i can hear the QQing already. 'Hey, why did you sign off?' 'well there were three of them and they just rotated their "super-powerful IKILLYOU" move cooldowns until i gave up and logged'

WAR endgame has it to a certain degree... LORD level mobs can instakill dps and healers. Only tanks and melee classes really stand a chance, unless you have full top level gear with built in wards and stuff... and you can't get resurected during such LORD raids, annoying, but fufilling when you kill them.

Except for Champion vs Paladin.

Both will die. How?

Asura deals 100k+. Paladin has skills reflecting damage.

Even Vitality High Priest tanks have under 15k health, and they are used only in PvE (because, as in every game, tanks are useless in PvP). Paladins are an excellent counter to Champions.

That and a good Scholar/Professor. Soul Drain = 0 SP = 0 damage, if I recall.

i dont see how being closed minded to a game type can be called cool but have fun and you have to rember not everyone plays thoes games to extremes for instance i play WAR and have a lvl 34 out of 40 but it dosnt mean i dont go out in fact as i type this im just in from camping.
of course i understand that alot of people do get overly addicted but what i hate is when im out and i mention the game to my freind (he played wow obsessivly for years) and someone makes out that i have no social life (which is funny since im out at the time XD)

also to poster who was talking about the fortress siges in war if you have the right wards you dont get insta killed and also he didnt mention that you dont get a bolster either (didnt know and went in at lvl 29 made it to top room then bang down)

also tanks are most certianly not useless in pvp at least not in WAR you need them on keep doors to avoid oil tearing the dps apart if they tried to take a ram. also in war alot give out some buffs etc
