Americans have two weeks holiday?
Two weeks?!
In the UK it's nearly at least a month unpaid leave.

I learnt a lot of new things in that article, cheers.
Two weeks if you're lucky and have a union job, or a job that's not easily filled. Else the only time you get off is unpaid sick leave, and you try to dodge taking that as much as you can, because when you only get paid the $6.55 minimum wage, (about 3.5 GBP if x-rates.com is correct) and have to work 2 full time jobs, you don't have a lot of money to throw away like that. And there's a good chance you can get fired if take too much.

I have to confess, that article put a huge grin on my face, amazing how people can find humor in disaster.

I don't know what to say, the enonomic shit-storm in my neck of the woods seems to have pissed off alot of people and crippled one of my friend's financially. I was fortunate enough to have had the insight to invest a larger part of my worth into bonds, now that the higher-ups money ain't safe... they're trying to invest into these bonds. The cost for bonds is now rising, and not only is my "monyz safez", but it's worth ALOT more than it was before.

Heh--maybe by sending them off to war so instead, you can call it the Boot In Your Ass It's The American Way Veterans' Rewards Program?

Wouldn't it be ironic if the War in Iraq led to a massive social welfare program in the U.S. that changed the face of poverty in America?
The Iraq War: spreading democracy overseas and social welfare back home.

I believe the PC term for the French is "Cheese-eating surrender monkeys".
Whilst the French term for Americans is "Burger-eating invasion monkeys".
Ah, but which one is the lesser evil? Okay, that's probably a no-brainer.....

Fact is we've all be deceived by people with a vested, monetary interest in keeping us ignorant of the truth. I was amazed when I started learning more about the history of social welfare just how many of our baseline assumption about the way the world works, the way things came to be the way they are today, are flawed.
Hell, social welfare is just the tip of the iceberg. People who respect the law and like sausages shouldn't watch either being made.

It's quite common here in America. While some of us rage against the situations we get ourselves into, the remainder will be rolling on the floor laughing and trying desperately not to say, "I told you so."

I can't wait until the Americans get socialised medicine. Oh how I will laugh. Take *that* health insurance companies, you money gouging wankers.
Umm wow ignorance/selfishness abounds in that post, but I shall refrain from debate as arguing politics online is like banging your head on a wall.
So, France, heavily socialised healthcare provision paid for by taxation. Best healthcare system in the industrialised world.

America, heavily privatised healthcare provision paid for by private insurance or at point of use. Worst healthcare system in the industrialised world. (Lowest coverage rate, worst results, highest tax cost per head covered, highest infant mortality rates, particularly for black people, etc.)
