Something recently occurred to me, if humanity were to ever unite and everyone became "same", we'd die out very quickly.

You see, if we all became unified, all of us thinking in the same manner and all agreeing with each other constantly, we'd never make any progress.
Not only that, but once an alien species figured out the weakness to whatever mindset we choose to unify under, we'd be crushed/subjugated.

With a diverse, though not necessarily peaceful, populace, only those locked into that way with the weakness would've been defeated, the others would've survived and humanity would continue.
What I'm trying to say, is that unity all around would result in our wholesale destitution/enslavement.

Do you agree? Disagree? Think I'm high?

You're talking of uniting as if it was taking one person, cloning him/her and removing everyone else from existence.
There will always be people thinking differently, even if mankind ever was smart enough to unite and put en end to stuff like wars.

Do you mean like the UNITED states of america is a bunch of states that are united with each other? Dón't try to tell me everyone over there across the atlantic agrees with each otehr and doesn't make any sort of progress.

as long as were all working for goals i think that we'll be fine, but if were working towards the same goals, specific goals like scientific achivements, then no because everybody will be working on one thing. Variety is good but so is unity.

Communism can not be accurately gauged in effectiveness, due to it never having actually been implemented.

Stalinism and Maoism are woefully dreadful, though.

Do not mistake Unity for a Hive Mind. Unity means that we'd be from "Planet Earth", rather than from its different countries.
A Hive Mind is more like the Dark People from The Longest Journey, and those are the best race in any game, so they must be doing something right.
