For those of you unfamiliar with the title: http://store.steampowered.com/app/72200/

I have yet to play this game, although I have to say it has intrigued me beyond reasonable discussion.

What are your opinions on the Universe Sandbox?

I've always wanted to play God.

I played the trial. It's mostly going to bore you after a few minutes. Turning the Sun into a blackhole is cool, but all that happens is planets are sucked in and flung out. No slow spiral into an event horizon, and hurling planet busting size asteroids at Earth isn't as satisfying as it could be. The things which make the universe truly awesome to look at aren't in the coding. Black holes don't bend light. The meteorites don't cause a massive wave of destruction across a planet. Tidal forces don't rip planets apart, etc.

However, on the plus side, making stable star systems can be pretty challenging and cool. That's probably where the most replay value would be found. You can do some cool things like have stars orbit each other(which makes placing planets difficult) or place Earth in Jupiter's orbit to make it like Yavin IV.

It's fun, not like, typical game fun, but if you like science and have a tendency of coming up with crazy galactic theories, you can put them to the test here, or tinker away with the gravity of stuff and see how long it takes until a stable star system starts going horribly wrong. Or simply let moon sized objects stick together until they form a giant clutter of orbs and then launch a larger object at it in a game of cosmos pool/snooker.

It's not going to be an ultra exciting experience by any stretch of the imagination, but it's an interesting experience and a valid way of killing some time.
