Well, thankfully, I don't drink, and I'm incredibly shy, so none of that applies to me! I'll probably just stick up in my room, and continue meeting with my friends back where I live.

Still, the city thing shouldn't be a problem, I know Dublin like the back of my hand, but I doubt college life will be anything to me but studying.
If you're shy then you should stay in the dorms (like flats) and just leave your door open, as you smoke weed I'm sure you'll make friends quickly without the awkwardness of the whole meet and greet at a bar. Best thing is to jump right in, best outcome is you meet some unique people worst outcome is that you're in the same shape as you arrived and then you can just fall back on your original plan.
Weed makes you smell bad, look worse, and give you the shits and giggles ... smoking weed to make friends .... um okay ... how the *HELL* tdo you meet anybody else -BUT- weed smokers (who smell bad, look worse, and are acting like morons)?

How about if you actually smoke the stuff, or be around people who do, before you give advice that smoking weed makes you cool?
Well why shouldn't it be any less of a social thing than drinking in a bar?

People who are militantly anti-weed are just as annoying as those who think it makes them cool and take any opportunity to talk about it.

If it's something you do then fair enough, but it doesn't need to be your whole personality, and if you don't want to do it then don't, but don't preach to those who do.

You may have messed up your wording, the US has both College and University
Oh, I wasn't sure to be honest, in movies an such they always seem to refer to what I would call University as "College".

We have college too, or "Sixth Form", but it's only two years and sometimes it's attached to your school.
muh, don't worry about it. wouldn't expect you to know. you're in a different country, after all. but yeah I go to a university and I live in america. not sure what the difference between the two is, to be honest

I drink at *parties* I drink with friends ... if friends are at a club or pub, we'll go there, if not, it's at a social gathering.

but unlike weed, I don't smell like shit, and retain a brain cell or two.

Nobody likes being around a pot smoker ... nobody ... the smell. It's not like cigarettes, its like ... acrid, thcick smoke that moves through the air with the thickness of cement.

And all poit does is make people smell bad, look stupid, and slovenly gits who won't get the F--- off my goddamn couch when I tell them not to smoke that shit in my apartment.

End result, pot smoking friends end up unwanted by everybody who ISNT a pot smoker ... and I end up my room smelling like shit for a week. He;ll .. it even got into my wardrobe and I had to get my suits and shirts drycleaned ... on a SUNDAY ... with a hangover.

Pot smokers .. have no bloody time for them ...

Its a stupid drug to take ... alcohol is better if you really want to liven up a party, or bring down some emotional walls. Weed = smell bad, look worse, be a totally useless nonce.

Such a waste of fucking money ... 20 for a foil of weed ... I'd rather buy a slab of beer thankyou. Weed is an idiot's drug of choice.
I didn't say it makes you cool.

Don't presume I do or don't smoke weed.

I could say people who drink only make friends who drink also but that would be wrong.

I've had great times on the stuff and have met great people (not necessarily stoners themselves)

I could also say beer makes you smell bad, look bad and act like morons and there would be a grain of truth in that.

I'm just saying someone who is all ready a stoner could meet kindred people at uni but then of course you always get people like you shoving their opinions in your face.

I don't know which one I want to go to out of SMU, UT, and University of Michigan. MIT would be good to, but there is a better chance of me passing a kidney stone the size of a golf ball and enjoying it.

I'm at the glorious University of East Anglia, doing my Masters in philosophy and starting the PhD in October! I love every minute of it, even after 4 years. I've always played a big part in university societies like Creative Writing and things like that. The drinking's been good too, though I doubt my liver would agree!

Going to the right college can get you a job in 2-3 years, University is going to suck up at least 4, but normally it's going to be 4+3 for a Masters or 4+2 or 3 for Bachelors and a college degree. Taking the right college course can give you all the experience you need in 2 years for a job, while an someone taking a similar university course is going to need at least 4 (and quite possibly additional years).
Unless you want to be like a lawyer or psychologist or something where they expect you to go to school forever to do it. Then University is pretty much required. Also, the above does not apply for programming, which is taught in Universities and will get you a job pretty quickly. But you'll probably hate the ones you can get quickly.

I agree man, don't assume that any form of intoxicant is in some way more dignified than any other. I've never known somebody getting violent or confrontational when stoned.

Going one further from stealing a regular little temporary road sign, and stealing one of these bad boys instead.
I find this a little hard to believe...

Mainly as those signs aren't just stuck in the ground with the pole, but have a very large cement anchor on it. The size of the anchor being roughly 2.5x2.5x2.5
Ahh right, fair enough. Maybe we took it from a the back of a roadworks truck or something, it would help if anyone could remember. It is in our kitchen though. Photographic evidence can be provided if requested :D

I don't know, man, wines look pretty dignified if you drink them right. Some mixed drinks also do, like martinis or anything served with ice spheres instead of cubes. The only way to smoke pot and look good is if you use a really classy looking pipe, and who uses a pipe to smoke pot?

Coming up on the end of my second year now, and I embody this:

Total slob, let my personal hygiene slide to previously unknown levels of depravity, descended into realms of manchild geekiness the likes of which I haven't known since I was 14, filled a whole bookshelf with books and comics I would never have read otherwise, met some brilliant people and some epic wankers, embodied any number of student cliches, watched literally hundreds of films ranging from superb pieces of cinema, to so bad it's funny, to so bad it's embarrassing and developed countless examples of those "running-in-jokes" that always appear puerile and pretentious to anyone who isn't involved.

Also, to add something new, have watched more cartoons in the last two years than I did while I was a child.

I'm loving it.

I went to a University for Digital Design, it was accelerated so I got a 4-year bachelor in 2 years. Many it was consistant of 8 to 12 hour days at any given hour year round with small 1-week breaks few and far between. I really had no time to experience the stereotypical college life, maybe one or two parties I was part of but the rest was pretty much on focus.

I think that means I'm a Nerd, though considering my school that's not unlikely.

You're kidding right? of the last 5 parties I went to, four of them involved people smoking pot indoors. Of the average of 80 people who were there, 5-6 of them were smoking it.

Given that most people, places and parties it's uncool for smoke near them/at them/at the very indoors, three of these parties ended up with bong water on the carpet/tiles/wooden floors, or the rooms being stunk up with the crap.

Spill beer, vodka, whatever on the ground or cheer ... no big deal. Try getting weed stink out? End up having to buy a new couch.

Studying English Literature at De Montfort University Leicester.

Me and my friends seem to be in a weird sort of "total geeks that party like motherfuckers" kinda vibe.

We'll paint Warhammer by day and rave/rock out like nutters at night. XD

I suggest you don't do this! I was a bit of a social recluse in my first year and after meeting some awesome people in my second, bitterly regreted it - halls is a first year phenomenon and pretty unique! It is easy to meet people in your first year at the beginning but it gets progressively harder as the year wears on - after the first month or two it is hard to start from fresh so don't make my mistake and avoid chickening out at the beginning - you have a blank slate to work with remember. You can kinda reboot in the second year but where i am anyway everyone moved into private houses so its MUCH harder and more awkward - make the first few weeks count - after that you can safetly revert to type knowing at least you tried. You are only likely to go to uni once remember

I've had a fairly mediocre experience at uni. My first year was rather crap, I didn't really get on with the people I was living with, didn't make any friends on my course and generally ended up being really reclusive.

Thankfully this year, I moved in with an old school friend who is studying medicine at the same university as me, and absolutely love it. Medical students are fucking crazy. Hard to believe I've only got a year and a bit to go. I went to uni to try and put off having to figure off what I want to do with my life, and am no closer to finding the answer than I was before I left. The only difference is that I'm now in very, VERY large debt.
