and gordan freeman is entirely believable right? going around beating everything with a crowbar when you were a scientist with no voice or training what so ever?

Ah yes, THAT problem with Mass Effect 2... If I'm honest Cerberus should have had next to no hold on you after a few missions since "We resurrected you" as leverage should only get them so far.

Off Topic: Is it ever explained why Cerberus knows about the Reapers but basically nobody else does?
Oh, the government of citadel space know about it. They just refuse to believe it.

The reason why your working with cerberus is because they are the only people who are listening. You need their help.

OT: I would say the main character from WET. She is simply a ***** - and for no other reason than because she can.

Final Fantasy 9. I actually liked Zidane as a main character but Vivi really took over for me in terms of character/emotional development.

Uncharted; Okay Drake is a douche, we all know this fact. I still find him amusing even though he is a douche meanwhile douche senior Sully is just great, cigar smoking wisecracking dirty old man.

God of War: seriously only in God of War 1 and Chains of Olympus did I find Kratos to be an actual character and it worked, tormented by a horrific past etc etc but God of war 2 and 3 just have him as the uber douche, a complete and utter childish idiot with no redeeming quality at all, selfish bastard even kills himself after single handedly causing the apocalypse.

Master Chief, seriously... for a story to be impress me the characters have to be effected by it, Master Chief is so "badass" he doesn't show any emotion or personal involvement he's just doing his duty. Cortana and even the black guy who thinks he's from Aliens have more personality than Chief.

Barney Calhoun, okay this is cheating since Gordon Freeman isn't a true character really just whatever the player makes of him but Barney is a complete bro and when he finally cashes in on those beers he owes Gordon they're gonna be completely trashed.

FF6, despite being one of my favorite games, had a really crappy main character IMO. She uses her magic to SET PEOPLE ON FIRE and then complains on several occasions about her inability to find true love or acceptance or what not.
I don't hate Terra really but she is outshined by an amazing supporting cast, Locke, Edgar, Sabin all have good story arcs and of course there's characters like Shadow and Setzer who are just compeltely f***ing cool.

WTF, people? I think Nathan Drake is cool.

Gordon Freeman is the most unlikeable main character ever. And that might seem a bit weird, because I'm not sure if he's even a character at all. He never talks, he doesn't have a personality, we don't know his motivation, and he's just as much of a mass murderer as Mr. Drake, but he doesn't even have anything interesting to say about it. He's just a pair of hands holding a gun. What a boring dickhead.

So having just finished Gears 3 I found myself watching the end cut scene and thinking to myself 'Marcus Fenix is as likeable and charasmatic as a damp sponge', I know thats supposed to be his thing, the brooding hero, but he never displays a single iota of emotion. This is in a game where even Baird actually has a second where he isnt being a sarcastic dick. I found myself liking the supporting cast more than the main guy. .
So my question is this, have you ever played a game where you end up liking a supporting character more than the lead?
Um... That's the job of the sporting cast.

Basic story writing tropes dictates that the lead cast does all the serious boring stuff like advance the plot and have character development. While the supporting cast gets to run around doing all the fun stuff and keep the audience entertained.

If you don't like the sporting cast the writers are ding a bad job.

Did you like Luke more than Han?
Do you like Batman more than the Joker?
Did you like Master Chief more than Cortana?

Marcus Fenix is as likeable as a damp sponge because Gears as a whole is poorly written but The supporting cast as a rule is supposed to be more likable than the lead cast.

Faith from Mirrors Edge. Not only is she a complete harpy in the cutscenes, but the silly bint struggles to put one foot in front of another in the game. Playing through the story mode I exhausted every racist and sexist expletive I know. Attempting the three-star time trials, I made up my own ones...

Commander Shepherd (male version). Christ is he horrifically bland and does he say some of the most lame dialogue I've ever heard in an RPG. Also 3/4 of the lead characters from the Mass Effect series should go in here aswell.

FFVII - Yuffie.

FFVIII - Zell,Irvine,Rinoa. Strangely Selphie is likeable even though she's pretty much a carbon copy of yuffie. I guess the lack of stealing all my materia/magic is a large factor...

FFX-2 - Suddenely Yuna and Rikku have become irritating as hell.

FFXII- Everyone bar Balthier.

The main character and supporting cast in San Andreas was so off putting I just could not play the game. Shame as everyone says it is their favorite in the series, but I just can't stand the whole gangsta thing.

I would say God of War, but the point of Kratos is to kind of be unlikable as he hates anything if it's alive.

The main character from Wet. I don't even remember her name, but damn was she a b*tch. I couldn't stand her.... I felt bad for her sidekick, Milo, and her other "friends".... really detracted from an otherwise fun game.

I think Kratos is a really crap character. His only defining characteristic is being angry, there is literally nothing more to this character. In GOW3 it was so extreme that Kratos was more or less a Parody of himself. Yeah i get it he's a badass, that doesn't mean he can't be somewhat likeable.

Lightning! From FFXIII. Bitchyness was through the roof. It's not really fair seeing as all the characters in the game were....[insert mean word here].

Great stereotype.

I don't like Half-life as much as you think.

I especially don't like the worshipping of a guy who's obviously mute. And wears not very cool looking power armor.

Besides, I'm not being hypocritical. There is a reason you don't see many people who look good killing people of that degree. Nathan drake represents the absolute top of the list of what I despise.

I hate the uncharted franchise for everything, its a game series that shows what direction we are headed to.

No other game franchise does this.

Halo? No
Gears? No
CoD? No, but at least it attempts to do things (even slightly) differently every now and again.

Uncharted? Does ABSOLUTLEY nothing new. Everything about it not only screams done before and done better, but it proves that things are going to shit if we continue with games like it.

Forgive me if you love the franchise, I don't hate people who like it. I hate IT in general. I don't hate the PS3, I don't hate naughty dog. I just HATE Uncharted.

Shows how much you know about games.

I can see how using the same game engine for the same game every time really shows the unique qualities of CoD.

Every silent protagonist. I'm tired of it. Back when character's "speaking" at all was shocking, it worked, but once you start playing games where there is dialog, the main character NOT speaking a line is annoying. It always makes the leader of the group seem like a mere follower as he never forms a plan, states his/her motivation, or emotes a tiny bit.

You know what? I'll let Dorkly Bits explain.

At least CoD isn't afraid to attempt to mix things up a bit.

Why are people so hostile about my goddamn opinions? I've played both Uncharteds, I hate them both.

I've played the aforementioned games, I like them. (I fucking love Halo)

I've played the aforementioned games, each sequel was refreshing to me (CoD to a much lesser extent but sometimes it felt new).

Uncharted...I've done before, it feels litterally like ALL of the games I've played somewhere, heres some Assassins creed, here is some Crash bandicoot, here's Crysis (2), here's Gears of war, Here is Tomb Raider.

Wait a second, I read your post again,, about how no other franchise that you've mentioned recycles other games like Uncharted.

I totally misread that the first time.

My bad.

I've never played Uncharted, but it seems to me like the focus is more on the plot.
