I totally misread that the first time.

My bad.

I've never played Uncharted, but it seems to me like the focus is more on the plot.
Trust me, thats it.

I noticed no difference between the first and second titles (Other than story wise). I haven't played the third one's beta but no doubt is it going to be the same.

I've been busy with Gears 3 and I've instantly seen changes between the 2nd and this one.

Servers for multiplayer
More "Personal" moments for characters, other than just the assumptions for fans to pick up on, anyone can notice these ones now.
Cover based gameplay that has been refined to go smoothly, no longer is it just move to cover, now you can practically fly over it.
Weapons that actually change tactics for people (for example: A weapon that goes under ground and explodes in your face literally, not just another machine gun)
RPG tower defense system for Horde (Or in this case, survival) matchs
Beast mode that lets you play as the locust (Concept used in Left 4 dead, but done with locust instead of zombies)

Thats just the surface of what Gears 3 is doing.

Thanks for at least understanding my point of view on this.

KRATOS just ... just Kratos I can't stand that douche bag. I get the desire to play as villans in a game but man I hate that guy I can't get into the God of War games because I just can't get past how unlikable the main character is.

Yeah sorry about the misreading on the first run though.

I've been spending all my time with Gears as well.

Halo has been losing momentum for me, probably because I am definitely not looking forward to what's to come from it.

Any character that is a "silent protagonist" I can't stand blank slate characters that developers say we're suppose to put ourselves into their shoes. It's just a lazy excuse to avoid investing time into a interesting story.

Also Master Chief, he's dull and every time the series has either avoided him or gotten away from his shitty story, the series has been better for it. Reach and ODST while both their leads were silent protagonists, the two games weren't hindered by having to stay on point with the main story of Master Chief. As well as the Arbiter who was a better main character then Master Chief, and the series suffered in Halo 3 with his absence. It really saddens me that that Halo 4 is picking up with Master Chief once again. I really had hoped that he would have been retired.

Nathan drake, every thing about him and uncharted series represents what is wrong with this generation of games. Perfect characters do not come from human beings. No ordinary human would kill hundreds and not be scarred by it. At least someone like niko bellic or master chief are used to or trained to kill things.

Also, super models dont do shit like that
and gordan freeman is entirely believable right? going around beating everything with a crowbar when you were a scientist with no voice or training what so ever?

yup, we nerds are extremely hypocritical.
Great stereotype.

I don't like Half-life as much as you think.

I especially don't like the worshipping of a guy who's obviously mute. And wears not very cool looking power armor.

Besides, I'm not being hypocritical. There is a reason you don't see many people who look good killing people of that degree. Nathan drake represents the absolute top of the list of what I despise.

I hate the uncharted franchise for everything, its a game series that shows what direction we are headed to.

No other game franchise does this.

Halo? No
Gears? No
CoD? No, but at least it attempts to do things (even slightly) differently every now and again.

Uncharted? Does ABSOLUTLEY nothing new. Everything about it not only screams done before and done better, but it proves that things are going to shit if we continue with games like it.

Forgive me if you love the franchise, I don't hate people who like it. I hate IT in general. I don't hate the PS3, I don't hate naughty dog. I just HATE Uncharted.

(the stereotype was massive sarcasm/stereotyping intended, just fyi)

now i'm not trying to argue, but just curious, what games have done better than what uncharted does? i'd probably like to play those games.

and i don't love the franchise, it's good but nowhere near to die over, i was just curious as to why it is utterly smashed to bits by some people.

I think that's what the developers wanted to do with Kratos though. They wanted him to be a complete and utter asshole, to show what happens when you focus solely on revenge and power and completely ignore the consequences of your actions.

From all the Shepard hate, I can see there are a lot of people in here who aren't very good at the actual roleplaying aspect of roleplaying games. You don't just pick renegade or paragon ALL THE TIME for the points. In ME2 specifically, the only thing you really need high points for is to kill Samara for Morinth, but that's something you'd only want to do if you were a REAL renegade anyway. If you pick the dialogue that fits each situation the best, you can carve a real character out of all of the different options.

Also, are some idiots still really playing with the male Shepard? FemShep is voiced by Jennifer Hale and has MOUNTAINS of emotion and expression in her voice. That other turd is about as exciting as a brick.

OT: Any main characters from any of the big shooters, really. They all suck. Fun story: in Halo Reach on my first Legendary playthrough with my girlfriend, Kat stole our Warthog on the Sword Base level after we had circumvented a rather nasty fight. She drove the Warthog back into the fight and disappeared. We continued on foot to practically the end of the road when we came upon another fight and were pinned down by a Revenant. I was finally about to board the Revenant, having snuck up behind it, when motherfucking KAT spins around the corner and whips her sorry ass right in front of me to try and get me to ride shotgun or something, blocking my way and getting us both killed. I know that's more about shitty AI, but I really did find myself happy watching every part of Noble Team compete for the most dramatic death because I just fucking hated the lot of them.

Okay, I can see that people seem to have problems with Shepard when it comes to his bland emotional range, but I also get the feeling that maybe most of you have only played through as a male (disregarding the fact that eighty percent of the walkthroughs on youtube seem to be female. Or maybe that's just me). I personally liked my Shepard characters, both male and female, and I'll admit that FemShep WAS better with emotions. However, come Mass Effect 2, Shepard was officially on the back burner for Mordin, who was definitely my favourite character.

Now, taking it down a little notch and going old school, I'll probably include Legend of Dragoon. Yes, it seemed to be the (somewhat dense) clone of FFVII, but it was a pretty interesting little game - if you can muscle past the fact that the dragons all look like giant bugs and the opposing race's name is "Wingly." However, as far as characters go, I must say I preferred Lavitz(and later, Albert) over Dart. Because Dart WAS Cloud's nonexistent little brother who felt that it would be "cooler" to wear red instead of black and parade around looking for his helpless girlfriend who - you guessed it - couldn't pull her own weight.

Speaking of the Final Fantasy series, it's fair to say that it's easier to like a supporting character than the main character, but instead of saying "omg so-and-so was horrible", I'll just chime in and claim that I appreciated Kain more than Cecil from IV. OOOH I'm terrible. Along those lines, Sora from Kingdom Hearts was a likable character HOWEVER I found myself liking Riku a little more. "What are you talking about? Riku was so EMO." Yes, but notice how he was emo and built character from it. Sora started out as the ideal little hero, but not much (if any) of his characterization changed. Not to mention Riku was just more of a looker.

I myself find it rather hard to like a main character more than supporting characters if the main character is female. I can't name any games off the top of my head, though, as logic naturally keeps me from PLAYING such games. This rule is hypocritically null when you can personalize your main character and it ends up being a girl, mostly because they don't turn into a Mary Sue. An example from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, though I'll make another reference and say I preferred Carth over my character. Why? He's darn cute. Same for the second game only with Disciple (YOU MONSTER, how DARE you choose Disciple over Atton.)

Isn't hating character from Dead Island somewhat like hating character choices from Heavy Rain or Left 4 Dead? If THAT'S the case, then I'd like to make an honorable mention to Rochelle from L4D2. Stealing my kills, woman. -shakes fist with evident disapproval-

And, while I feel the compulsive need to drown you all in pointless text, I'll just include a couple more characters that I dislike, but can't find a supporting character that I like more - mostly because the character I like more is the bad guy, thus not a supporting character: Henry (Silent Hill 4), Heather (Silent Hill 3), and probably Isaac (Dead Space. Seriously. "Sure, I'll run around and do EVERYTHING while everyone else mills about pretending to be useful.")

Cole Phelps, I thought Jack Kelso was a more likeable character until he started calling everyone "Angel."

I think saying Shepard doesn't have emotional range is kind of ignoring or not understanding a important aspect of what limits his range.
The moral choice system.
The character is usually presented with three options to choose from when talking, and when your questioning someone usually five, and that's just for one response to a dialog tree of 5-10 on average.
So Shepard whos charecter is considered legally sane has to act like a normal human being. If the player starts off his response with the good option, and his next response is the renegade option, his tone has to make sense in the situation. You cant have Shepard trying to speak in a diplomatic calming tone for 4 responses and then on the fly at the on the 5th response start turning all dirty harry in his tone or seething with anger, when before he was being diplomatic. That's why his tone HAS to remain relatively flat in comparison to other characters.

That said, the male voice actor is atrocious even with his limitation, the female voice actor does a far better job with that constraint in mind.

I wish Shepard did that. It would make listening to Male-shep even more entertaining than it already is.

Ok i Feel as though I must correct you. All Final Fantasies EXCEPT IX. Zidane is awesome.

Final Fantasy 12. I wanted to beat Vaan with a lead pipe. I really fucking wanted to. He was just horrible. I hated that skeleton with skin.

This is still alive?! And yeah, Zidane alongside Locke is one of my favorites, both following more or less the Lupin the III model, its just that Freya Crescent is even better for me in that game, if just due the fact that i love dragoons and that at the very end Zidane starts being a little emo.

Master Chief. No personality, and through him we have to go through some of the worst level design ever (I'm looking at YOU, CORTANA!). Before anyone says to read the books to get to know him better, if you can't give your character personality in the game, just call it a day and don't waste time trying to write in personality outside of the game. No point, not everyone can/will read the books.

Apart from that, possibly Niko Bellic.

I hate to say it, but Vaan had no reason to exist. If you take him out of that game, nothing really changes. Actually, things might go better. Vaan was a fucking idiot. Do you remember going to save Penelo in the mines? As soon as you get off the airship Balthier and Basch remind everyone not to use their names as that might cause some problems. Vaan walks right up to a random kid, Larsa (son of the the FUCKING Emperor!), and introduces them all by name. This was about 10 seconds after Basch and Balthier told everyone not to use their real names!

I think I know what they should have done. They should have taken him aside, looked him directly in the eye, and said "Vaan. Hey, look at me. No, don't get distracted by the little lights. Look at me. Yes. Good. Now, don't use my name. Okay? Got that? If you tell people you're running around with a sky pirate and the man who killed the No. Bad. Vaan. Look here. At me. Okay. If you tell people you're in the company of a sky pirate and the traitor who killed the King, bad things will happen. Okay? You got that? Good." Or they could have just left him in a car with the window rolled down and plenty of water.

Even the other characters hated him!

The prince from the cell shaded rehash, But then again i'd imagine it would just come under NAthan drake again or maybe we can stop blaming Nathan drake and rather NOLAN NORTH than fucking prick using that exact same smug tone of voice for every single character he does
