Jaime saw the man gesture to her. well, I guess I didn't look like a total idiot. she felt a little more relaxed when the man asked his question. she stood up "yes sir, why did we come here? clearly, we aren't just some team going for a regular job, there would be far more of us, and there would be reports of the extraterrestrial forces taking another planet. I may be new, but I can see a special forces job when when I see it." she sat back down, hoping that the captain would answer the question, not just a line of council bullshit.

a special forces unit?"Haha" He chuckled slightly at the thought of this ragtag group of individuals being likened to the special forces.

he ran his hand through his hair, it was beginning to grey slightly, he looked at the captain, he would certainly ask around about this man once this briefing was over, and on top of that, find out more about these other members, see how deep in the shitter he was with this mess,it was becoming clearer he probably had the most combat experiance among this little group put together

He noticed the name of the Chief Engineer, he had heard of him, Good with mechanics if the rumours round the mess hall were true, The mess hall, Damn he was hungry.

meanwhile, Gallagher was floating down the connecting passage, off to a good start, late for the first official briefing, the briefing room in the ships control center had seemed so close the previous day, when The nyx had come to pick him up, well it seemed that way, obviously HE had to lug his sorry behind there himself, what with military staffing short as it was, just his luck being sent here, he was barely born, a recruit at best, and his principal duties before hand were jacking cadavers up the head to make right they were dead, then going hydroponic on the poor sods, Even his thoughts laced with Augustine argot, he reached the access door to the control center, the magnetized floor attracting his boots, He ran to the briefing room as fast as his comparatively weak legs (Augustinians, coming from a smaller planet than most, often had underdeveloped muscle structures due to the lack of Earth-like gravity) could carry him, fell through the door to the briefing room and looked around at the crew assembled there, Earthican re-cycling most of them, and what was that old- timer rofulmaoing about to himself like a jerrmandered biodome.

In a list of ways to find out you were thinking out-loud, what happened next would be somewhere near the top

Johnson turned his head to see the newcomer, a young kid not much older than a teenager the medical band around his upper arm made him a dead give away. "Gallagher I assume? Take a seat recruit.
"To answer your questions yes we are on special assignment. And yes we are yound guns on the most part, but command needed a young crew as this is an 'experimental' mission and vets are needed on the fronts. I won't lie to you we are in the shit first if the ET invade anywhere near us. and even if they don' we're in it. We're a boarding/prevension squad we get hem in the air or on the ground."

"and what was that old- timer rofulmaoing about to himself like a jerrmandered biodome." - Gall i dont understand what some of that means, even after googled for definitions. Rofulmoaing (laughing?) And Jerrmandered, again googling comes up with nothing but this page and some dudes my space, whats do they mean?.

Repzik heard the newcomers comments on their little ragtag band of soldiers
Old-timer? I'm not even halfway into my 40's yet,Christ "Not even disciplined enough to shit his own mouth when need be" He murmured to himself

He noted his comments on Earthlings as well, Repzik always found the Earthlings to be a bit of a let down, The original planet of humanity didn't produce the Human perfection in its offspring he'd assumed they'd all have from being born on the Mother planet, He'd been on Earth himself, only seen it through the view-port of a ship that was passing by.

It looked like a paradise, far from the Frozen hell hole that was his Beloved Dinikkin.

His train of though was cut off again by the Captains voice, he listened to what he had to say but only payed attention to a certain part of the mans speech:

"And yes we are young guns on the most part, but command needed a young crew as this is an 'experimental' mission and vets are needed on the fronts"

Ah i see, alot Greenhorns to make any failure and acceptable loss, and just enough Veterans to give the missions credibility, Typical brass, But was the war such a cluster fuck that they couldn't afford to assign a team of veterans, a proper Vangaurd?"

Gallagher sat down sheepishly, feeling every bit the fool he probably was, trying to formulate a plan to slink of to medical ASAP...

OOC: I Will only be able to post sporadically, due to issues I don't care to discuss, so by making my character socially awkward, absence is excused, feel free to use my character as Heal-bot when I'm not available. However I will still be co-GMing with Tom.

Johnson looked once more over his crew in case there were anymore questions. None. Good, that made his job easier. "Right I assume your all settled in or at least have had a look around. Settle into your bunks the rooms will have to be shared in two's Jaime and Laika, Vidmir and Marcus and Solomon and Gallagher. Find you own quarters mine and my office are at the far end of the hall just off the mess. We don't have an official cook because command were very shot sighted in setting this whole thing up." Which was completely correctcommand had provided a state of the art ship and missed half the essential roles on the outset. "So as you can guess we're doing shifts. And finally we leave port with in the hour Marcus I expect you to be ready and at your station I'll send co-ordinates to your console about our destination. Dismissed"
Tom turned from the group and headed to the lower deck access. They'd soon realise he'd not told them whole truth about the mission details. Hopefully by then they'd hate the ET's enough not to care about taking the fight to them.

"Yes sir, cap'n." Marcus said, and exited the room, to find his station. He had never flown a ship this class before, only simulations. That meant he would have to look around and get a feel for the controls first.

He thought about the other crew-members. An odd bunch, no doubt, and most of them were pretty young. And, as usual, no one would tell him the real purpose of the mission, but it didn't bother him much.

While the CO rattled off some unimportant things like bunk arrangements and cooking shifts, Sol had his mind wrapped around more pressing matters. Why the hell were they all on the ship? What was the mission, exactly? Where is the tech lab? None of these questions were answered (suitably) by the CO.

'Fuck it. I'll find out eventually.'

Sol headed out of the briefing room, looking for some kind of directory. Finding one, he noticed that there was no tech lab aboard the ship.

'Top of the line my ass. Even the UNSS Kiev had a decent tech lab.'

In case you are confused, sentences with '' are his thoughts, and ones with "" is what he is saying. Just clarifying that.

so, I'm with some medic, ho well, better than that barracks back on earth. that guy was nuts. but I need to find the armory, gotta see if we have anything good. Jaime walked to the firing range "hmm, I think this would do for just security" she took a pistol from the display case and put it in her holster.

Johnson sat down at his desk and checked his console for messages, one new. It was command with a ready assignment, the planet Losa an outer rim planet had possible long range scanner sightings on an ET ship. He copied the co-ordinates into a message and sent them to Marcus mentioning not to shake up the engines to badly, there's no rush. Once he'd done that he decided that it was about time for some shooting practice. Heading to the armoury Johnson picked up a standard issue assault rifle and settled into a booth at the firing range. this sure as hell beats shore leave, we'll reach Losa with in a couple of days and the crew can settle in.

Laika set her things down in her quarters. She knew what weapons she'd be working with. the usual m160's or AK4700's. She had noticed alot of newbies on the ship. "Just as long as they're not in my blast range." she muttered to herself as she began to unpack. When she was done, she stared at her quarters, and felt alone. "I'll head to the mess hall, there's bound to be someone there."

The mess hall was identical in appearance to any other of few thousand or so ships flying in the Humanity armed corps, a drab affair, the one place in the entire Local Bubble where "Military grade" was a bad thing, and seeing as the Nyx had no designated cook, nourishment was likely to be worse than usual, but not such a bad thing for a medic short on supply, after all prescribing the placebo effect was normally effective, and mess hall kitchens were perfect places to find brand new "antibiotics".

Leaving his boots magnetized to the floor for extra stealth Gallagher sifted through the meager rations available, cursing the HAC for sending him on this suicide mission (for why else would they send out a mission with a recruit as the most qualified medic) any depressing jumped-to conclusions were cut short however, as an almost spectral shadow floated into view, touching down on the floor with a crackle of magnets

"Monkey-bugger" thought Gallagher, wincing in anticipation " It must the right CO, here to gerrymander m'organs for racist remarks", then he remembered something no one should ever forget, people never look up-

and so clinging to the ceiling praying to every god he could name Johnson didn't see his boots, still stuck to the kitchen floor.

Poor Laika, she only wanted some company.

Johnson looked at the navigation chart on his wall by his judging they were little more than half a day from Losa. He sat down at his desk and checked his messages again for anything new. SOP (Standard Operational Procedure) meant he had to check his messages once every hour of duty when not indisposed. Admin rubbish none the less it was monitered along with after action reports and failure to comply meant a fine (or demotion for repeat offences). He logged on and noticed a new message with the bracketed [URGENT] on the header. He quickly read and then re-read the message being certain of what it said he raised his hand to the intercom button on the desk and spoke calmly "All hands on deck, I repeat all hands on deck. Losa is under imediate Extra-terrestrial threat. Report to the briefing room ASAP. Marcus set the auto pilot to top speed and report for briefing aswell. That is all." He took his hand off the intercom and broke into a steady run towards the briefing room. This mission just got interesting.

shit shit shit shit, Losa. why did it have to be Losa. Jaime grabbed an assault rifle from the racks and headed for the main room, making sure to grab a few weapons for the rest of the crew on the way out. she checked her PDA, she had a voice mail from her sister "Jaime, tell the military or police or something, the research station is under attack by ET. they have plasma weapons. all of them, not just a few like before. I got hit. the Medic said I had about an hour if I don't get medical attention, so, if I don't see you again, tell mom and dad that I died fighting. wait, whats that, there breaking through? shit. goodbye Jaime." a loud explosion was heard in the background, then, silence. Jaime stood there for almost a minute, then a sound came through. that of human speech, but cobbled together from many voices "puny humans, you think that you can stop us, how amusing".

'A threat? Already? Damn, that timing was convenient! I was about to take a nap.'

Sol headed for back for the briefing room, hoping that this would be as interesting as he hoped.

Repzik had almost reached the mess hall when the intercom switched on and delivered the message

"Ach, Never a moments peace nowadays" He grumbled outloud while he began to walk slowly in the General direction of the Briefing room, what did it matter if he was late?

He came across the Engineer on his way down the halls What was his name again? he wondered as he walked up behind him.

Johnson was first to the briefing room and steadily the rest of the squad arrived. Jaime armed up to the teeth with combat gear, she'd clearly thought ahead, comendable behavior this'd go in the after action report. "Right people here's the situation, ET has touched down on Losa they appear to be well equipped maybe the vangaurd of a larger force, but so far just one ship. We'll be the first on the scene by my estimations and therefore we have two main objectives. Firstly eliminate or atleast hold off the ground threat until a larger force can arrive. Secondly to remove that damned ship from the picture. These can be achieved if we split into two groups of three with Marcus remaining here to provide extraction and support. The boarding party will need to be specialists so we can either destroy or comendeer the ship. Therefore they'll be Vidmir, Laika and Solomon, Solomon I'm placing you in command of the group, but Vidmir has experience I recommend you take his advice. The ground force will be Jaime, Gallagher and myself. We touch down in 2 hours any questions come see me. Rest of you suit up." With that Johnson grabbed a Pistol, a Sniper rifle and an Assault rifle from the table and walked towards the armoury to get his combat gear on.

Laika ran up to the briefing room to catch the last part of what Johnson was saying. "-Vidmir, Laika, and Solomon,Solomon I'm placing you in command of the group, but Vidmir has experience I recommend you take his advice. The ground force will be Jaime, Gallagher and myself. We touch down in 2 hours any questions come see me. Rest of you suit up." Laika could feel a few eye on her. "Sorry, damn lift is slow." she mumbled. The crew began to file out, preparing for battle. "Better suit up, then." Laika wandered down to the armory. Most of the good stuff had been taken. She saw a few machine pistols, nothing fancy. everyone had a designated suit, depending on the job. Laika walked into the back room to see how much demolitions she'd be working with. She swiped her crew card in the door and headed back. She gasped in amazement at what waited for her on the table. A heavy laser minigun was waiting for her. She recognized it was a Neverender series R4. "I'm gonna call you Klaus. Now let's go kill a lot of people, Klaus." as she entered the suiting pod.
What kind of gear should we be using? i figured something along the lines of Metroid/Master Chief space suits.

Sol headed down for the armory, following one of the people he was to be embarking on the ET vessel with. He was in charge, and was supposedly responsible for their lives, but the CO said something about Vidmir having seniority, and Sol should listen to him.

'If I should listen to someone else, then why am I in command? Because I am the XO?'

Sol reached the armory, grabbing a machine pistol off the wall. He watched the girl in the boarding party retrieve a minigun, and speaking to it.

'Great. One of my charges is a crazy. This should be fun.'

He found his armor, which was customized to suit his role as Chief Engineer. It was medium armor, lighter than heavy but not as protecting. It came with an assortment of tools, which was fairly obvious considering his role. Felling he had some time, he set the machine pistol down on a nearby table and began modifying it to suit his needs.
