They use the same period because that's what people like and it sells. No point making a game about a time which no one knows about and just pouring your money down the drain.

I mean would you enjoy a game about the fire of london in 1666, where all you do is put of fires?

The Boer war, 13th century China against the Mongols, centuries of warfare between Hungary the Balkans and the Turks, the early expansion of Islam, America pushing West, the Mexican war, I'd like to see more attention paid to these.

Also First person Conquistador game with a good melee system would be fantastic.

I'd love to see a game where you could play as a Warlord in Genghis Kahn's army, or even just a common soldier. I think it would make a great action RPG or maybe an RTS/RPG.

World War 1 could be a great setting if done right. It would have to have great dialog and excellent atmosphere but it could be done. I don't think making it combat-centric like the Call of Duty series, as the quickest firing weapon you could have would be the Lee-Enfield (a fine weapon) but no SMGs, Machine guns required a crew of at least 5 to use properly and grenades were pretty damn primitive. They could do a good job with full on battles like Verdun, the Somme River, but they'd have to be really well designed. and maybe some of the really early/late battles where they had some mobility. But overall I think it would be a great psychological thriller, if they could really make the player experience the horrors of WWI, living in the trenches, watching you friends butchered in full on assaults against. Brutal bombardments that lasted for days at a time.

Another one I wouldn't mind seeing is something based in the Classical period that didn't involve mythology. Something in ancient Greece/Rome or maybe Egypt.

Considering how they stopped the spread of the fire, by exploding great swathes of the city to form firebreaks, it could be cool.

How about the war of 1812?
Which war of 1812? The somewhat pathetic Americo-British war or the epic and disastrous Franco-Russian campaign?

The Americo-British War would be kind of hard to do since that one was a resounding British victory and American gamers might not take the idea of personally razing the white house all that well.

I'd also like to see a historically accurate viking game. Make it about the Danish invasion of England, you can start with small raids on coastal villages and work your way up to full scale warfare fighting in a shield wall.

Something to do with the Mongol invasions.

I would love to see a game about that.

EDIT: Apparently it has already happened. Nevermind then.

In that case I choose the Spanish-American War.

Just so I can charge up San Juan Hill with the epiphany of manliness known as Theodore Roosevelt.

World War 1, Vietnam War, the age of exploration, and the reign of Caligula..although why they don't use the last one should be obvious.

The 'Devil Summoner' games featuring Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th take place in Japan during the 1920s when the country has just started to take on some western customs, such as western-style housing and clothes and some slang. I found it very interesting to see our own western culture mixed in will all of the Japanese culture and traditions.

I think the question is less 'can we think of one game to use this era' and more 'which ones can we not name twenty for'. WWII will take the prize for most overdone, I think. Followed by not-really-a-historical-period but I'm still a bit bored with the pseudo medieval fantasy settings. Thus why I did a jig when I found out Link and Zelda were at least progressing to steam travel.

I'd like to see more India in general. You could just make a game from the two major epics of Hinduism and it would be fantastic: magical never ending saris of modesty, flying monkeys, a bridge being built by squirrels, and more. If you want to have some fun with the gods then forget the Greeks and hang out with Shiva.

You - No.
I lol'd.

I think that most historical periods have been used.

It always struck me as strange (and a little irksome) that out of all of human history, videogames tend to reuse the same periods of time over and over again. Tenchu Stealth Assassin did that I think.
