Yea and chances are that when it's released globally, we will have a more balanced version with possibly even MORE content just like the first Dissidia had. I dunno how Dissidia will fair with you, but the game can steal your life as you'll log at least 100 hours into it and enjoy every minute.
Iv played a bit of the first Dissidia and loved it.
I mainly messed around with Squall and Cecil.
It was fun, and i loved the unique fighting style the game had.

Tifa has been confirmed and Celes has been rumored. I jsut pray Tifa isn't just a female Jecht and Celes seems like a fitting FF6 addition, and more females are always welcome.
Tifa!
sweet.
Iv never played FF7 but iv always liked her.
Iv only played FF3, 4, a bit of 6, and Tactics so im at a loss for most of the characters.
Good thing there is Wikipedia.

As for Lightning, her special trait is Optima Change. I detailed it in my OP, she can switch between Attacker, Blaster (mage), and Medic for mix ups and gives her very diverse move set and game play changes. Very similar to how Cecil is played but with 3 modes instead of one. Medic doesn't heal HP though, it regenerated Brave (number above HP) in some way.
Ohh that sounds cool.
So she is gonna be able to fight well in almost any situation.

I'm actually kinda glad they took out the ex mode block. It was too easy to break the game with that.

I think the assist system will compensate for the lack of EX guarding as some of the footage I've seen I could swear I see the assist being pulled of despite the character getting pummeled. Only time will tell. And for some reason it's not called EX mode but FX mode...god know why. Some of the new stages shown in the trailer are pretty cool, they showed Orphans Cradle (FF13) and I could swear another stage they showed was the afterlife place from FF2 Dawn of souls.

Honestly, I'd rather have Sabin, Setzer, or Shadow from FF6. Celes is a good character, but we already have one "magic girl" from that game. The only way I can really see her distinguishing herself is if they made her more of a defensive character(runic sword ability). On the other hand, Sabin would be a bear of an offensive character with his Blitzes, Setzer would be fun and unpredictable with his Gambles, and Shadow... OK, never mind about Shadow(Edge from FF4 is a better ninja anyway). But the other two would make for interesting gameplay choices.

I'd like to see some more FF10 characters.

Lulu would be a good addition, or maybe Paine.

Well I think I know who might be showing up from FF12 alongside Gabranth returning, and some people aren't gonna like this (I'm impartial since I haven't played 12).

Looks like Vaan might make an appearance by evidence of this twitter from Vaans voice actor:

http://twitter.com/BOBBYEDNER

"Oh yeah, I play Vaan In Final Fantasy!! This is my 2nd game voicing him "

Just something I found on another discussion elsewhere and it's pretty strong evidence if you ask me. Vaan's only been voiced once in a game....guess he's coming to Dissidia 2 but we'll just have to see. Kinda lame seeing as they had a lot of other more interesting characters to choose from but ah well, he'll probably end up dying by the end of the game like most of the new characters might.

Someone please find out if this Dissidia will have infrastructure internet play. That would have made the first Dissidia perfect.

There was mention about something regarding communications mode, so the possibility of online play is there. If this does turn out to have online play then it has already met and gone beyond all my expectations for this game.

Tag team fights? Greatly expanded roster? Improved story mode? More stages and overall content? Possible online play?

Hell....yes.

I don't think either have a chance of getting in. Celes has apparently been heavily hinted for FF6, and there is some strong evidence I posted earlier about indicating Vaan might take up the hero spot for FF12.

And people have gotta give up hopes of seeing spinoff characters. The game is sticking with characters from the core series only, Nomura even said so. So no tactics characters, no Zack, no fucking Kingdom Hearts characters (and yet people still hope), none of that. Only characters from FF1-FF13 will be in it. The best you can hope for is if they throw in Noctis from Versus 13 as a secret unlockable character.

I really, really hope someone from the original Final Fantasy Tactics makes it in. I'd kill to play as Ramza.

Ramza would be nice, however I think the game needs more long range characters...Fran would be cool to have.

This game needs Auron.
I am most certain he will be in the game, hell I even heard on another discussion board that Gilgamesh might even make the roster; although that info is yet to be confirmed. Not all games are getting equal representation as Normua and team said that they are choosing characters that they can make unique, and they aren't doubling the roster, but we will see a good few new fighters.

Nomura: Unlike the first game it won?t be the same number, or one character from each game, but it?s not something as small as 3 or 4. It?ll be a good number, so please look forward to the follow up reports.

Takahashi: We?re not just selecting characters at random, but focusing on giving them a different feel when playing and on character popularity.

Nomura: The next new character to be revealed was one that Takahashi said, ?if you don?t add this character I?m not making the sequel!?

Takahashi: The EX Mode is an ultimate attack, and Assist is more something you use little by little. The Assist gauge will fill up even if an attack doesn?t hit, and will decrease as time goes by. You?ll receive the benefit by being aggressive with it. There?s also a new system that symbolizes how EX Mode and Assist oppose each other.
And some strong proof that Gilgamesh might be in it: "Nomura said a potential sequel would include Kain Highwind, Gilgamesh". Taken from the Dissida wiki in its updated trivia section.

Gee..I wonder who that one special character will be.

- The meaning of ?Duodecim?

Nomura: It means ?12′ in Latin. DFF was the 13th battle and marked the end of the gods? battle, but this time we?re covering the 12th battle before that one so it was named with that meaning in mind. It has other meanings to the development staff.

Takahashi: ?012′ fitted extremely well with the content of the game, but that?s a spoiler so I can?t talk about it now (laughs). Just remember that it has meaning.
Some of the system changes I've been reading are pretty cool too. All the little tweaks and changes to the battle system and even some characters are making this game look even more balanced and deeper than the first. One neat part of the assistr system is you can't use it while in EX mode which sounds fairly balanced, and instead of EX guarding (which it out now) you can interrupt combos with the assists.

Neato.

Tag Teams! Sweet!

My original save carrying over is good news as well. Now I just need to actually obtain a Pink Tail...

So, no more Ex transformation to stop an enemy attack? Why? It's not like you can do that repeatedly. It can be a very helpful momentum shifter though.
I found some more updated info today and man, this game is turning out to be rather deep. I could list all the changes and tweaks they made but that'd take a lot of time so here is some of the latest info.

It looks like EX guarding is still there, but it's been changed. When being hit, if you press R+[], insted of going into EX mode you activate 'EX revenge' which acts like the EX guarding of the first game but you will not enter EX mode and it costs you your entire EX guage.

So it acts exactly like a psyche or barrier burst from GG and BB.

Some other neat info regarding the assist system too (along with EX revenge explanation):

If you call an Assist attack that will cause Chase normally, you can also press X button. But instead of going into Chase mode, you will dash to the back of your opponent. Combo possibility.

Assist Change (supposedly official name for calling Assist whilte getting hit to get you out of trouble)
L+O - use 1 slot of Assist Gauge. Avoid opponent's attack and position you above the opponent. Opponent's attack will keep going, so depends on their attack range, angle and possible linking attacks, you may still get hit afterwards. Your Assist Gauge will be locked.

L+[] - use 2 slots of Assist Gauge. Avoid opponent's attack and position you above the opponent. Opponent's will be staggered. Your Assist Gauge will NOT be locked.

Assist Lock - locks the Assist Gauge for a period (around 10 sec)
This happens when:
1) used L+O Assist Change (lock yourself)
2) causing hit stun or stagger on opponent's partner (lock opponent). These includes your attack hits opponent's partner, blocked opponent's brave assist, using higher priority attack to crush their assist.

Assist Charge - happens when you are near Break, and do a counterattack on enemy's Brave attack. Assist Gauge +1 slot.

Assist Full Charge - happens when you are near dead, and do a counterattack on enemy's HP attack. Assist Gauge +2 slots.

EX Revenge
The new EX Guard.
When you are getting hit, press R+[] to do this, will cost you the whole EX bar.
Opponent will be staggered and (super) slowed for a limited time. During this time, the slow effect will stay even getting hits.
This action is different from entering EX mode, not a property of shifting into EX mode, so your opponents Assist Gauge will not reset.

Entering EX mode no longer gives invulnerable frames. If you try to do this while getting hit, it becomes EX Revenge automatically.
(So no more EX linking/splicing too XD)

I'm still unclear on this whole assist lock jabber they were talking about, the info just doesn't seem well laid out. Gonna have to see it in action but I get the general concept.

Looks like you can ground dash now by holding R+triangle, and no more infinite jumping either so battles wont be 70% in the air and ground based character have more footing. And there is more where that came from.

EDIT: Looks like this game may have an international release too as it's scheduled for spring 2011 and the english voice actors began work in may, has new game modes and music. BUT WAIT!! there's more!! There is talk that there will be TWO story lines, one for Cosmos, and one for Chaos. Villain campaign? yes please!
