OH I get it! The "coma" referred to in the trailer is the same Coma Big Boss was in when they took the DNA from him to make the Les Enfant Terrible.

Well if no one is gonna ask, I will.

Diamond Dogs....can we expect David Bowie to fight along side Snake?

Aaaaaw Kojima wants to fuck with my head again. No sir, I won't fall for it this time.
*waits for 5 minutes and then breaks down and watches the trailer*
GAAAAAAAH !
But seriously now, not only did I not understand a single frame of that trailer I think I heard something pop in the back of my head when Big Boss spoke with the voice of some NOT DAVID HAYTER ! I'm also curious to see how this ties in with Ground Zeros cause from what I've heard we'll need to buy both games to understand what the fuck is going on. If that's the case I guess Kojima finally learned how to cash in on his "talent" of telling a completely incomprehensible storyline.

Ouch, Snake's new VA...

Also, British flag in the hospital? What's that about?
Well in MGS4 Big Boss did sound notably different than Snake, so it had to happen.
That was because Big Boss and Solid Snake had the same VA, so having them talk to each other would´ve been pretty awkward. I think he´ll have David Hayter as his VA again.
Well obviously, and for that exact reason at some point Big Boss has to stop sounding like snake. The change in VA was an inevitability

Typical Metal Gear Solid trailer, never giving any solid details to work out the story setup. Though I where to guest, I'd say a run up to the founding of Outer Heaven and the births of Solid and Liquid.

I'm excited as all hell for this, but also rather disappointed that it looks like David Hayter is no longer going to be voicing Snake.

I mean, the guy was Snake. But it seems, after Ubi also dropped Ironside as Sam Fisher and IO/Square nearly did the same to David Bateson as Agent 47, it seems game publishers don't want distinctive voices any more and every protagonist - or at least male protagonist - shall sound the same. Voiced by Nolan North.
Ah man Snake/Big Boss aren't going be the same without David Hayter.

We all know David Hayter can't voice Big Boss in this game.

Because he's going to be voicing Solid Snake instead. This kind of bait-and-switch is classic Kojima. Yes, I am still working through the denial stage of my grief.

Yes. Stuff like that is kind of par-for-the-course for the MGS series, though I have to admit, that certainly is one of the weirder moments so far. :p

OT: Wish we knew what time period it takes place in... And which version of Big Boss we will be playing. Still, looking forward to this one, seeing as I have enjoyed all the MGS games I have played previously. :p

I hate to be "that guy" but I'm pretty good at identifying voice actors and that sounds more like Robin Atkin Downes doing his Master Miller voice.

I have no idea what the timeline in MGS is so Miller could be dead by this point for all I know but Snake's voice may be somewhat preserved.

That or he'll be the final boss... ..which come to think of it would be freaking damn cool.

Bowie would make an awesome Metal Gear boss.

Not to get nitpicky, but the project that created Solid and Liquid happened before even Peace Walker. This coma is something new entirely.

OT: I pretty much lost my shit when I watched this live. Kojima really knows how to make a trailer.

And i'm pretty fucking stoked for more Big Boss.

So, anyone got any ideas for the timeline? Judging by Big Boss's appearance alongside Miller I'm assuming late 70's early 80's. So 9 years later he wakes up, putting the setting around late 80's early 90's maybe? Interesting.

Typical Kojima though. Where any sane person would make a sequel either at the end of the timeline or the beginning to avoid the mess that would be connecting multiple convoluted plot points together, he seems to fully embrace the challenge of making all the pieces fit together.

In many ways, too much of that trailer looked pretty understandable. This is Kojima, it's always a trap! (Also Psycho Mantis?!! Is it really him?) And does the Union Jack in the hospital room mean this is where the cloning takes place?

Not to get nitpicky, but I just need to verify... this is Big Boss in this trailer right? What with the eye patch and all? And the two phantoms would then be Solid and Liquid Snake... Right?

EDIT: And Diamond Dogs is a precursor to Outer Heaven?
I'm pretty sure too, because that was Kaz Miller beside him on the hospital bed right?

And it looked like it was clips of MSF's oil rig being blown up.

EDIT: And Zadoorknobs cigarette lighting hand! Peace Walker really should have been named MGS5. All those people who didn't play past the first set of credits in Peace Walker are going to have missed so much. I want more Paz action =D

Maybe its a crossover with Dungeons and Dragons, as that could have been a level 14 Summon Dire Whale[footnote]I just made that shit up, but now i'm starting to think... is there a dire whale summon in D&D, and if not, why not?[/footnote]...

Hmm, intriguing trailer. Shame it made as much sense as:

I'll be interested to see where this goes, although I doubt I'll be any the wiser even after playing the completed game!

You know what Kojima? Do whatever you like; you just make the game and I'll buy it.

How can anyone take Snake seriously now? A dude with a rifle creeping about hiding and struggling to fight off a squad of soldiers if spotted cannot compare to Metal Gear Rising.

If one cyborg ninja can destroy platoons of troops and single handedly chop apart 50ft high battlemechs with ease how can one dude with a rifle ever be of use in that universe? Especially if he is the main Protagonist, Kojima raised the bar too high. Now Snake seems lame and underpowered now.

Kojima has just revealed this ain't rock and roll...This is genocide!

The fuck did I just watch? That wasn't so much a teaser trailer as it was an acid dream that takes place in a hospital.
In fact, the internet seems to largely be ignoring the possibility of a "dream state." Maybe it's just because I don't give a crap about Kojima and therefore don't know something glaringly obvious, but a lot of the "supernatural" elements seem easily explained by some sort of wild dream, forced or otherwise, as the result of the coma. The Fox vs XOF imagery could also fit in, because dream states are often treated as having mirror-like qualities.

Okay, a few things are obvious here:

1. The coma is the time when Solid snake and Liquid snake are cloned from Big Boss (the union jack makes sense because Liquid was raised british if I remember correctly)

2. Major zero is gonna make a reappearance at some point in this as a bad guy.

3. The reason for the new home "diamond dogs" is because MSF was probably destroyed by Major Zero, resulting in the scene where snake and miller are in the hospital. also, this is the cause of the coma.

Now for speculation:

1. The scarred guy... He is either Zero (probably not) or Colonel Volgin. Both of those are long-shots, but its possible.

2. The "two phantoms" are one of two things: Solid and Liquid or Foxhound and Major Zero's organization.

Also, I really REALLY love metal gear solid. Shame I don't own a playstation anymore.
