Why do I have a feeling this means Wii 2.0 (Project Cafe) will once again be the weakest link on the market?

Hopefully not rushing enough to release another unstable console.
Why would we expect anything less from the company that brought us the first commercially-successful major console with a critical hardware failure rate greater than 50%?

The same company that said that they wanted to extend the life of their existing console with yet more motion control gimmicks?

Yeah...they don't want a repeat of the sales disaster that was the Wii. Nintendo needs a new gimmick to retain their momentum and Microsoft certainly doesn't want them to make any more gains; or worse, actually try to compete with them.

I still think its to early for the next generation of consoles. Can't we give these ones a few more years.
I'm going to be blunt: you must be trolling, right? The next generation of consoles is overdue by a good two years, frankly. It's about time, in my opinion.
I wasn't trying to come across as a troll, i'm just not ready for a new generation of consoles. I know this new generation is still a few years away but I just don't think its time for new ones. That's just my opinion.

NexBox, lol.

I wonder if Sony has any plans to.... wait, never mind.
HAH!

Anyways, I really doubt it. I don't think they have any real reason to at the moment. Nintendo definitely does. Sony and Microsoft's systems are still going pretty strong. All they need to do is make sure nothing horrible happens to their systems and... oh, wait...

EDIT:

You don't understand the definition of trolling, do you?

This is why I was shaking my head in confusion with the new Nintendo console that's supposed to be 'a bit stronger' than the 360. I knew it was gonna be trumped a day later. :\

Now it can't be turned on without a Gold membership!

Seriously, MS. Free members can't even send messages now. >_>
Are you serious? Well that sucks. When I read these kind of comments it makes me glad I'm a pc gamer.

I really hope the next console generation isn't coming soon. It would lead to increased costs for everything.
Soon...we will all pay...AUSTRALIAN PRICES!

And they're be forced to pay...EVEN HIGHER AUSTRALIAN PRICES!
Yeah but then all the game prices for this gen would go down!
....and then PS2 games will start to increase again ;-;

I don't think you have to worry about them doing a reveal. I'm calling bogus on this rumor. If anything you may hear a code name for a new console and perhaps a reveal next year, but even that's not likely.

With the graphical jumps being less and less significant and with companies just starting to be profitable with console sales (except Nintendo who always made money on their machines) there is no real reason to release a new console.

It's safe to say that they are developing them, but the next generation is at least two years away if not longer.

Yeah! Way to go PS2!

I thought there wasn't gonna be another console in, at least, another 4-5 years...what up?

This news doesn't surprise me, but I can't imagine they'll release it this year. It seems a bit too soon considering all things. Not like it matters to me all that much. I didn't buy a 360 until almost 2009 anyways. Maybe if there isn't massive overheating in the new console, I might get it a bit sooner.

On a side note, it'd be cool if the next gen consoles had SSDs in them, but that's just wishful thinking on my part. You can already use your own SSD in PS3s, but retarded MS has their own proprietary HDs to suck more money out of consumers.

Unlikely, i think. Something, and im not totally sure what, doesn't feel right here. The timing is very... advantageous for one party....

Why? the dated hardware is already stiffling game design and inovation. graphics are maxed out already and have been for a few years. features that can be packed into a game such as physics is limited to the hardware and pretty much maxed now.

Xbox 360 was released in 2005, in 2010 it hit the 5 year mark. possible release in 2012 is 7 years old. In the world of computers thats ancient, and the current generations of consoles are computers that dont allow you to use them as computers. MS wanted it to last? well it has and now its old tech in need of replacing so game design can become more inovative and better quality affects and graphics that wont make it stutter. and to think they dont even push what the TV its connected to can do, not by a long shot. Also as games are now becoming more and more multi platform, having such old tech for the baseline means that overall game design is at a relative standstill. That is not good for the industry as a whole.

Who knows. I may even actually own Microsoft's next console. As long as it's nothing like the 360...

Not trolling, just don't like the 360. Never have.

Denials in this sort of situation means pretty much nothing, denials right up to a reveal are not unheard of.

Intial dev kits for a 2013 or 2014 launch now wouldnt suprise me, particuarly for those devs tasked with creating exsclusive launch titles. Especially if MS are going for radical changes compared to the 360.

What? NO! Thats a bad thing. You know how much a good SNES game costs nowadays? $30+ PS2 games are so cheap I can buy five for ten dollars. If the price goes back up, then I'll never finish my collection!

Yeah, I misunderstood. That's actually VERY bad for my interests as well.
For some reason, I thought you meant PS2 games would increase, as in production...more games for the system...I'm gonna shut up now.
