I hate Murphy...

I finally get some new ps2 games and now the video on my ps2 is on the fritz.

So, I don't have a ps3 yet so which ps3 should I get that has the best backward compatibility?

Thanks!

they all have pretty crappy BC. I got the 60 GB, that's out of production (check craigslist, look for backwards compatibility) but the graphics show up kind of crappy. It's all going to be software emulation anyway.

There was a limited edition 80GB that had software BC, but I can't vouch for it.

The most complete, as far as I know is the 60. Check Wikipedia for the serial numbers to look for.

Only one that has it is the first one, long since discontinued.

There are rumors that a software emulator is coming.

Soo......... Unless something new comes out, then if I want to play my ps2 games, I have to buy another ps2?

...Wow... that's... just silly.

I'm actually impressed by my Wii now with its built in backwards compatibility. *sigh*

Don't get backwards compatibility. Just own both consoles. BC PS3s don't work quite as well as normal ps3s and are prone to malfunction easier.

The only real backwards compatible is the 60 GB one. That model is the only one that works on hardware instead of software, so its almost 100% compatible. However, it has been discontinued for years and it might be difficult to find.

The other option is the 20 GB and 80 GB ones... Those use software emulation, so it doesn't always work and even when it does its not 100% perfect.

So, yes. The only reliable way to play ps2 games is with a ps2. Might sound stupid, but its Sony's way of making that console still relevant.
