Hey guys and gals of the internet, I need some advice on upgrading my CPU. Turns out I have a really old CPU and I should replace it. I mainly use my desktop for gaming.

Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GT 630
Operating System Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional Edition (build 9600), 64-bit

I am looking for something that isn't too expensive, $400 is really my limit at this point in time.

Try looking at http://www.logicalincrements.com/ . Unless you are planning to overclock always go with the stock cooler option.

I second booboo's advice on the stock cooler; Intel do a good job with their packaged heatsinks and thermal compound/paste. If you're getting a processor with a K on the end, it's overclockable, but otherwise you'll save space and money with a stock cooler.
