I get the feeling a lot of UN members have wanted to get after Gadaffi since the 80's- were growing tired of forcibly smiling around him and trying to play nice. Especially with Lockerbie and all. We should remember that Gadaffi was the big bad dictator before Saddam came into the spotlight (hint: because he was our ally) That and the man has been in power for 4 decades- he's definitely had some opposition brewing against him.
Not saying that I'm in favor of all of this, though at the same time, this is how the UN is ideally supposed to operate when it comes to international incidents like this. Surprised that it's actually going down this way. We'll see if this will turn into another Kosovo or Bosnia. Maybe something will actually become of this before it escalates.
However I would still like the UN (and the US particularly) to at least denounce the turmoil and massacres in Bahrain and Yemen. Two nations that have either imposed Martial Law or States of Emergencies on their people and, apart from Libya, have been responsible for the largest majority of casualties in this wave of protests and strife in the MidEast/N.Africa.
Actually, the US will never do anything about Bahrain, not while our BFF Saudis are involved.
