The former US military general John Sheehan pulled a massive troll on the Dutch army today, saying that the reason they failed to protect the muslim enclave Srebrenica, which resulted in the genocide of thousands of muslim men and boys, is due to the fact that the Dutch army openly allowed homosexuals to join their ranks. The good general did not expand on the correlation between these matters. Edit: Turns out he did. Apperently Johnny believes that gays disrupt the cohesive nature of an unit.

I like the fact you are using a Tanith term (an imperial planet... well formerly imperial but whatever) to describe slightly mental generals. Mental generals being the bread and butter of imperial strategy.

On topic the guy is a idiot pure and simple. If you put all the gay soldiers in one unit though they would be as cohesive as a unit can get if you catch my drift.

lol, because there ARE gays in the US military... it's just their don't-ask-don't-tell policy means they are not allowed to be open about it.

Then again, you can't be openly heterosexual in the US military either what with the number of female officers, you hit on them and you'll end up in the brig.

I read this on the BBC today, and couldn't stop laughing. I pretty much imagined the entire Dutch nation going 'Uh?'.

Anyway, plenty of military's let gay people serve in them and have never reported any loss in combat prowess or morale because of it.

The real reason the Dutch lost at Srebenica was because they numbered 400 men with APC support versus thousands of Serbian and Bosnian Serb soldiers armed with tanks and anti-tank support. Standard military loss, simple as that.

Yeah, but it was a great opportunity to say something anti-gay, so naturally this fellow was going to take advantage of that.

OT: Wow, what an utter twat. I mean, the US Army lost a bit of respect for what they did in Iraq and Afghanistan, but this might be considerably more damaging to their reputation. This general has basically made the command staff of the US armed forces look like complete morons. I'd make a jab about "military intelligence", but it'd be too easy, and I'm not in the mood to joke about this. It's just kind of sad.
