I don't just hate grenade hores, i also hate people who think they are so good because they play maps by themselves and figure out exactly where to throw grenades and shoot grenade launchers so that they spawn kill around 5 people in 5 seconds (im obviously talking about Cod4 and Halo mostly). Get a F****n' life...

Only time nades have pissed me off are in Halo 1. Nade spamming portals...hell anything involving camping portals is extreme suckage. I hate people who constantly spam nades left and right and dont bother to use their gun at all, it just shows immense lack of skill. Even in unlimited nade servers I limit myself to how many nades I throw at any given time.

Aside from that, nades have never been a big problem for me, I use em as a way to flush people out of their hiding spots or deal that bit of damage to give me an edge in battle. I don't abuse them, but I make use of them when they are certain to give me a win.

A lot of the time it depends on the map. Smaller maps with lots of players the only "safe" spots require you to kill by tossing grenades blindly, as if you try to find people you'll get shot down as soon as you get away from cover. Larger maps with lots of cover you wont find so much grenade usage as you have to actively find people.

Like in CoD4 the map on the ship,when you have a lot of players the only way to get a decent death:kill ratio is to use grenades. the town maps people are so spread out that your not likely going to hit anyone blindly tossing nades

exactly why i will never have as much fun in tf2 as i did in tfc.
It was great when mappers made maps just to spam

Grenade spam is the reason Team Fortress 2 is the best shooter ever.

Only one class has them, ha!
Of course, that class is by a significant margin the most powerful, but let's ignore that.

The irony, is that grenades are over used because they are underpowered.

I know, seems insane... but if you made grenades in game to reflect the true lethality they would be used a lot less since a 30 yard diameter of death is too volatile to use without continually killing your own team.

If Friendly Fire is OFF, then grenades at any lethality will always be over used. In real life warfare, there are specific circumstances in which grenades are used and having your team behind safe cover and aware of your grenade throw is essential since they are so dangerous.

As far as I am concerned, grenades are a very important part of most FPSes. Grenade under the feet at the same time as a bullet to the brain, nothing better.

But you'll hear me screaming at people to learn to play when they automatically stop getting kills just because they run out of grenades.

CoD4's nades are far too powerful for my tastes. Martyrdom? Yeah.. Thanks for that.
As long as you keep the explosive yield down to a certain level, they're fine. Keep up the tactics and all is well. The n00bs shall be pwn3d and the 1337 shall r00l. Excuse me while I go wash myself for using leetspeak.

Grenade's aren't just a play style, they're a way of life. No but seriously grenades are awesome as you can go for out right kills with them OR distract an enemy, jump out and shoot them in the back

Edit: And have you ever thrown a grenade into a packed little room with only 1 exit. There is nothing more satisfying then that.

Frankly any server with too many players for the map, regardless of whether grenades are involved, just sucks.

On an optimally populated server, grenades don't present so much of a problem. Good for taking out campers, too.

TFC was ridiculously awesome except for the amount of grenade spamming (and the unusual loudness of them). I feel I might actually like TF2 if they kept the special grenades in, took out crits, and took out the 360 degree sentries.

...and changed the medigun back to the aids healthpack... and gave them back the super shotgun...

Nevermind I still hate TF2...

Edit: Fortress Forever is an awesome source mod that stays true to TFC very well with the exception of spy feign death as it can't be done with ragdolls (they get cloak instead)

Hey I rented the game for my 360 and had a fucking good time when the game wasn't lagging. Hell, it was a lot better than I thought half-life was. Also, maybe that guy has a computer made out of horse feces like mine that can't play TF2.
If you bought the console version, then you have my sympathy.

I was playing TFC from within a month of it's launch. I played it pretty heavily until the servers started filling up with bots a few years ago. It was great fun in spite of its serious gameplay problems, of which the obscene amounts of spam was the most serious. Conc-jumping medics with their smallpox was nearly as bad.

Grenades are good if handled realistically. Like no idiots 'nade-spamming.

Concussion and Smoke are missing from TF2, and they would be good.

If you have them in the game there will be spam, as surely as the sun will rise tomorrow. TF2 is better without them.

The entire structure of the game is based around which classes counter others. If you start handing out grenades that change class roles, that breaks down. Smoke grenades would totally dick over the snipers and even though I hate the bastards, they have a hard enough time with spies and scouts already. Conc grenades would allow a relatively inexperienced engineer to take out a heavy medic team alone even without his sentry. Do you really think thats a good idea?

i hate how on call of duty 4 on chinatown if you throw a nade over that green tent thing at just the right point it lands where people spawn.
ive been caught out on that so many times.
