Wasn't until my third playthrough of Dishonored that I figured out you could hide under things.

CONTROL AND SPACE AND MOUNT AND BLADE WARBAND.

Holy shit, for those who don't know it speeds the entire game up by like 6 times or something, it's ridiculously useful for not getting bored, and is supposed to be in the game - not considered cheating cause everything speeds up with you (gotta be careful about enemy troops a lot more now).

Final Fantasy X: didn't know how to open the menu until I got Ixion. No instructions and nothing had ever been triangle to open before.

Well I think I fell for the classic one which is I never knew you could sprint in Mario.

MIND=BLOWN.

Quite an arbitrary thing really, but I was going bat-shit crazy trying to figure out how to grab and drag objects in Xbox 360 Skyrim after playing Oblivion for years on PC.

Hold A (action) to grab? Wut? I'm not even sure if that's how you did it in fallout 3/NV...

Kingdom Hearts 2. I went through the whole game with no abilities added on Sora, Donald and Goofy. The whole damn game. I do not know how on earth I missed such a huge feature of the game. I just do not know. But hey, I made it through the whole game on normal difficulty like that, so that counts for something right?

Oblivion. I may of reached level 7 and done about five Dark Brotherhood quests before I realized you could fast travel.

I love it when this is posted in the forums. Every time you get so many people who didn't realize. Hell, this is where I learnt it.

In Mass Effect 1, I only noticed on my second playthrough that you're able to shoot missiles from the Mako by pressing the right bumper button. Boy, did things get a lot easier then. "Har har! Eat missiles you slimy thresher mwah!"

In Mario Party 1, in Piranha's Pursuit, you can swing on the vines. Blew my mind!. Never really needed it, which is probably why it remained a secret for long for me.

The only other one I can think of is in League of Legends you can right-click to place or remove runes from a rune page. Was playing for about six months before Phreak mentioned his "super pro tip" that launched him to becoming one of the best players in NA. Not terribly useful during gameplay, but it certainly helps drawing up runes pages quickly.

In AVP 2010, on Refinary, after 2 years of play from day one, I found out there's certain barrels that emit flames if shot. This can be used to make it harder for a predator to see you through them, or potentially catch an enemy marine or xenomorph on fire. Rare, but possible.

I think it wasn't until my fifth play through of Bioshock until I figured out how many bonuses you can get by researching enemies.

Flashlight and continuous drinking in Fallout 3. I wouldn't say they were entirely 'useless', but I managed to play the game well enough without the knowledge of their existence.

I don't think you can make it through the game without abilities like glide and such.

I went through all of Dead Space without using the little line path the game gives you. I was using the shitty little map the whole time... It makes it scarier since you're staring at this map in game time and some enemy you missed might just rip you to pieces before you notice it.

Oh and emotes in LoL... Where would I be without my character's laugh bound to the L key? In a much less awesome world i'm sure.

I got 1/3 of the way through Soulbringer, somehow defeating Bishop Mortan and human-form Gargos, before I figured out what those little plus/minus signs on the stat menu were for.

Of course, since that was the game's leveling system, it was less "useful feature" and more "absolutely necessary"...

It took me about 30 hours on Skyrim before I realise how to set quick select on spells and weapons using left and right on the d-pad.

I always thought combat in Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption would be less frustrating if there was a pause function a la Baldur's Gate.

Turns out, they patched one in.

It's the Pause/Break key -.-''

A new bow that the Skyrim DLC; Dawnguard adds can shoot two special arrows.

1) Blocks out the sun for a while, making it night, removing the sun's weakness if you are a vampire.
2) sends deadly rays of sun down to damage undead creatures.

I found out that this worked because I missed shooting a dragon and hit the sun with that arrow instead.

I also took me a while to figure out how to get a Steward into my own made house.
