I think I'd of liked him if you COULD pursue conversation with him. His side-quest was good, but other than that there was no interaction. Never used him either.Sovereignty said:Zaeed in Mass Effect 2. I didn't like him. Felt no need to pursue conversation with him. Never put him in my party. And he stole my shoes =(
Actually, I'd argue that ALL the characters in Mass Effect 2 are useful (except maybe Jacob and Tali), it's just a matter of picking the right ones. Some are overall better (like Miranda, Samara, Garrus, Thane and Legion), but all have their place.Chris Sharka said:Mass Effect 2 has so many characters that they can't all be useful mechanics wise. Legion for example was almost the exact same as Tali mechanics wise. The real difference being Sniper vs Shotgun.
Zaeed did feel a bit tacked on, I agree. However, he does have some fun stories to tell if you talk to him, so it's more like him being the only party member who doesn't want to be your pest friend, but rather do his job and be gone.Sovereignty said:Zaeed in Mass Effect 2. Actually, it's not a given. I tend to rotate all available characters for variety's sake, unless the game penalizes me for it (Baldur's Gate 2 comes to mind). That way I don't feel like I picked up some of my party for no reason.RatRace123 said:It's a given that in RPGs with a large cast there will be like maybe 4 people you will use throughout the entire game.
I can't think of any at the moment, except for the Dog in Dragon Age. He was a decent damage dealer, but far outshined by Allistair, Sten, Shale, Oghren and potentially your own character.
Still he was the most fun to talk to.
Ramus was awesome. I recall a playthrough of that bad boy where I power-levelled the characters.M5Henry said:I would say Ramus from LUNAR: Silver Star Story, but I'm not sure he counts since he's only in the party until after the first/second(depending on what verion you're playing) boss.
Letting Rolf die SHOULD make your eyes water. *glare* He's just a little boy!NeutralDrow said:Hard to say. I'm one of those people who deliberately tries to use everyone, and I have to say it's usually worked for me.
Closest I've ever come to the opposite would be in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, but I wouldn't call all the late-joining characters "useless." I simply didn't need them, because I flat-out refused to let any of my early units get killed.

And not just for gameplay reasons. Their death lines can be fuggin' tragic. Rhys and Rolf even made my eyes water in guilt.
I totally agree. This really took a lot of the joy out of the game for me...MicCheck1two said:The main character in Dragon Age is totally useless and doesn't even feel like a main character.
Heh, on the contrary, I never used Ken, Koromaru or Aigis once, always used Mitsuru, Yukari and Akihiko. Koromaru didn't really have much of a purpose in the original Persona 3. In FES they allowed him to help your social links mind.IdealistCommi said:After getting Aigis, Koromaru, and Ken in Persona 3, I never again used Junpei, Mitsuru, or Akihiko.
though they are not "useless" characters, at one point they become useless characters, due to me using the Bufu (ice) magic, Koromaru using Agi, Ken using Hama (lightning), and Yukari healing.
