The reason why useless weapons have always -and probably WILL always- feature in games is so that managing to kill someone with it ensures the complete and utter destruction of the victim's self esteem. Do it enough and you'll have the juicy sight of people running in terror from you because you've got THAT weapon out, and they couldn't stand the humiliation yet another time.
