You had me for a while there, but I knew something fishy was up when the CoD: World at War thing was mentioned.

Good show, though, good show.

Poor dog. Obviously that guy was disturbed. Video games do not need to be blamed.

Bullshit. He is a psycho. Video games causing this is like saying the amount of time he invested in eating caused this. Games have not become that real yet. You are taught to push buttons to initiate a command, not to actually stab a dog. Once again, blame the games game wins over common sense at recognizing a psycho. Are the other 50 Million playing this game also animal tormenters/ I don't think so. Everyone who draws skulls is not going to shoot up a school. Just another liberal smear on violence, taken from a tragic story.

Violent video games are going to cause the end of the world as quite clearly from this evidence their wasn't violence in the world before video games were made and the whole mental health problems weren't a factor in the neighbour killing the dog.

So the man had a history of mental instability, yet they blame this on videogames?

That's not even silly anymore. It's just depressing.
No joke.
Who cares that the guy had an admitted and documented history of mental instability?
He played games. They're evil.

Ugh.

sorry - shall we look at the statistical likelyhood of playing COD resulting in real world violence...I've played it, to my knowledge I have never hurt another living thing (with intent of course - I have occasionally sat on my husband awkwardly)
so thats a 1 in 2 chance, how many copies did it sell? I'm going for a super conservative estimate of 10thousand copies (i know its more - just go along with me here)
So 1 in 10,000 chance of commiting violence?

What about the REAL wars that people fight in every day, not every soldier that comes home from war starts butchering kittens!

The guy was unstable, he had a history of mental illness, War & Peace could have triggered his behaviour coz he was ALREADY CRACKED

rant over
luckshot said:
yeah i'm gonna go ahead and say this guy already had issues. video games drive people to violence the same way a car drives people to eat fast food they take you where you want to go
ArcadianTrance said:
The sadest thing about this is how believable it is. Really it could just happen any day guy with issues kills dog but he plays video games so it's their fault.
Honestly the belly button thing is the less believable of the two.

WHAT?! VIDEO GAMES TO BLAME FOR....FOR A FUCKING DUDE WHO KILLED A DOG. I fucked a cat once, I blame it on video games. Is that good enough

On to more serious business, what's with this "Craze" to blame everything on video games? It's like "I can't find a reason for why this happened, so I'll just blame it on video games". It's just STUPID! What, did the dude play Call of Duty to much and realized that Dog's are evil and went on a killing spree? Seriously.

Oh wait a minute, after they found out he killed the dog they state this: "This prompted authorities to look into the man's medical records, and despite finding a prominent history of mental psychosis and instability"

DESPITE FINDING THAT HE HAS PSYCHOSIS AND IS MENTALLY UNSTABLE YOU'LL STILL BLAME IT ON VIDEO GAMES? It's just ridiculous.

Edit:Wait this was an April's Fool? Ok...well sorry for the Rage there guys!

I'm surprised MSNBC seems to be taking a stance against videogames in this article, as they are known to be incredibly liberal, and are a joint venture between NBC and MICROSOFT! I mean, the article acts like the player is given extra incentive to kill the dogs over the enemy soldiers...

We have now been officially deemed in an "PTSD epidemic" in the states, now all how do all these "desensitizing games" make people "prone to violence" when they can't handle it I mean wtf, it's just no one want's to take responsibility for their actions, they ought to just euthanize anyone who tries that excuse. If you can't tell the difference between the two worlds please stop breathing.

No, no, and for the thousandth time, nooooooooo!!

Seriously, it has been proved by scientists that, though video games can often bring up some hidden emotion or desire in a person, but it is down to personality, heritage, genes and environment. There have been examples where courts have overruled videogames being responsible.

In February 2003, a teenager was charged with murder, to which he pleaded insanity and that he was obsessed with Grand Theft Auto III. The plea was later retracted, and his mother dismissed the game for being at all responsible.
In February 2004 in Leicester, a 17-year old boy lured a 14-year old into a park and murdered him by stabbing him repeatedly with a claw hammer and a knife. It was found that the murderer was obsessed with the game Manhunt, a game heavily criticised for frequent graphic violence. Though these claims were dropped once it was discovered that he did not own a copy of the game.
...Although something like the Columbine shootings prove that a game (in this case, Doom) can be a big factor in such a crime.

Then again, look at the proportion of people who own a certain game and commit crimes like these, compared to number of people who own the game and don't.

First off, if somebody did that to my dog, I would have to put a knife in their kidneys. Blaming this on the fact that he played video games is ignoring the fact the he was BATSH*T-F#CKING crazy.

good joke, people believed this because it is the kind of thing that genuinely happens. people with a history of mental issues kill something, and than because they played video-games the games get blamed. I play video-games most of the time and I have never done anything like this, well except for that bus.

Not really. Most here will agree that mentally stable (i.e. what passes for normal) people who play video games don't seem to suffer any adverse effects. It stands to reason a mentally unstable person who plays violent video games would have a different response. The core cause is still "the man's a nut-job" but the catalyst may well have been the 300th time he knifed a dog in WaW.
I totally agree with you and couldn't have said it better myself. It could very well be the case that people with mental illnesses, such as psychosis, react Differently to violent video games. This would actually make an interesting study. If it is shown that violent video games can push those who have a mental illness "over the edge", then perhaps a law should be passed regulating, rather than prohibiting, the sale of such video games. I feel very sorry for this poor dog, and I hope that justice will be served.

Brb throwing up.

Seriously. This is probably just a couple people who've been listening to Jack Thompson too long and are looking for something to blame their dog's death on

Citrus Insanity said:
This prompted authorities to look into the man's medical records, and despite finding a prominent history of mental psychosis and instability, officials searched even further into Gregorie's life to find what could have motivated him to commit such a horrible act of violence and betrayal.

"The one thing that stood out about his life was the investment he put into playing videogames," explains Officer Grant. "From what we've gathered, he spends about twenty hours a week in front of his TV, playing games... and most of them feature violence."

One game in his collection that caught the authorities' attention was "Call of Duty: World at War", a game wherein players are rewarded points for killing dogs. The game even gives players the freedom to kill these virtual animals in a variety of different ways, including by gun, by flamethrower, and by knife.
How do you go from "a prominent history of mental psychosis and instability" to videogames made him do it? While it may have put the idea in his head any person with an ounce of impulse- control would not do this. Once again a lunatic has put the gaming community into question.
