And that's just ODD. I've never seen a game go through the effort of putting a face to the people you're fighting and killing, and make that face something completely recognizable. You're not fighting psychopaths, or monsters, or anything of the sort. They're just PEOPLE.

Ya know, I didn't think that until the part where you get seperated. I remember in the "invasion of Bruhl" you see the scouting group or whoever throw a grenade and kill a family trying to escape. It's like they were trying to make them look evil and then suddenly they aren't. I thought that was kinda cool if not confusing. Then of course the facelessness of the enemies during the fights helps because they all wear those masks, but that's a different story.
That cutscene in the seperation part really hit me. When the soldier shows up at the little chalet. That was strong. I'll never forget what one of the Generals says "We all have family."

Personally I love this game. I found it very fun and as said I really like the characters.

One of my favorites... even if I'm currently stuck fighting the massive tank in the desert...damn hard mission that one...
Use scouts! Seriously. A grenade drops the radiators in one hit.

it's a great game but you have to devote a large amount of time per mission.

got it, completed it

awaiting the dlc released saturday
Been waiting on the DLC, didn't realise it was this week (hopefully Europe too), thanks.
Love this game, completed it multiple times to get all the medals. Great story/characters, great game (shame Sega messed up the marketing for it).

The game is pretty solid. I am a bit critical of the bosses for either being insanely annoying to fight, and the bonus chapters having to be unlocked at which point plot-important stuff is revealed. Still, the gameplay was well-balanced.

Almost completed this game for the first time now, feeling almost guilty for buying such a gem so late on, but one thing i'd like to ***** about which you could add to your review is the inability to rely on smokescreens and other visibility-based-stuff to hinder your opponent at times other than exactly when the game wants you too.

- At least 3 or 4 times now ive tried laying down one of the bugers in a position where i cant see shit through it and it should obscure the sight of a bunch of baddies and each and every time i was hit with 100% accuracy. Same thing with sandstorms, and night, and laying down in grass (which renderes baddies completely invisible before you stumble into them). Grrrrr, especially annoying when you've been in battle for a hour and havnt saved because its been gooing swimmingly... Thats a point actually...

- I think there should be a system where you can choose to go back a certain number of turns when you fail, because on the first time through a level an otherwise decent position can go strait to pot with surprise reinforcements (like the battle with alicia strolling through the center owning everything in sight) or the enemy being cleverer than normal and actually flanking the edelweiss, which is both vital and possible to be taken down in one hit untill at least mission 15.

Aside from that though, awesome.
- and really the last line sums it up best, im thoroughly enjoying this game so far, definately getting the DLC once i clear the story (though Edy's voice pisses me off so much)

oh and they are making a anime series based on it
They already have, there's currently two episodes out and subbed somewhere-i-cant-mention [http://www.google.co.uk], unfortuneatly its not looking as good as the game so far... pretty though so hopefully that'll bring some more sales :)

Doesn't that sound boring and horrible compared to real-time combat? Well that's what Valkyria Chronicles is to me!
Jeez you really stumbled into the wrong genre XD. Well to us fans the answer is no, and besides facing Selvaria in real time would be a complete death wish.

Christ, no kidding! I'm on the Trench Warfare mission (13, 14? chapter), and I lost the Edelweiss as soon as she showed up. It SUCKED. Only tried it once, but I think I've figured out how to capture their stuff easier, so hooray.

Haha sorry to hear yougot your ass kicked, she did that to me during the desert mission with the MASSIVE TANK so now i stay as far away from her as i possibly can at every opportunity now XD. Btw you listened to all the advice your team gave you right? - ie get you tanks into the ditches immediately and pop out and back to shoot at her, just purchase all the accuracy tank equipment from R&D and its actually pretty easy.

Yeah, I guess armor's not as useful there. =p Thanks, I'll try that. Does the Shamrock's alternate weapons have any effect on her?

And no I didn't get my tanks to cover, I was trying to get the shamrock into the trenches to use it offensively, didn't realize I couldn't get into the trenches before it was too late.

I don't think the Shamrocks alternate weapons will work.

Yeah, armor's nice and all but she has a freaking lazer XD

I dunno about the shamrock's flamethrower but i wouldnt want to try and find out XD. I did however find out the hard way that the gatling gun did bugger all, but to be honest its accuracyis waaaay lower than the edelweiss so just put it into the ditch and ignore it for the rest of the battle :)

*cough cough*, It wasn't that hard, you just hide the tanks in the trenches, they even tell you to do that, then every time you hit her, she lose movement points, I think 2 hits made her unable to move the next turn.

People say this game is hard, I beg to differ, I think the difficulty was okay, I only saw the game over screen a few times, and yeah, it is one of my most beloved games ever.

I don't have a PS3 and have never played it, but I do enjoy games like Fire Emblem. In theory, I would love the game, but I tried playing Operation Darkness, which was the same concept. The game itself was good, but putting a grid style system into a console does one of two things.

A. It shows all 360 degrees, which makes it hard or too confusing to observe everything.

B. It is an overhead view of the entire field, which does not make the most of a console.

Operation Darkness conviced me that turn-based grid style strategy games are best left on handhelds. If I had a PS3 I would give the demo a shot. Does the game correct the camera problems?
Valkyria Chronicles is not a grid style strategy game. The idea is that you use and move units in a third person perspective (with a bar that deplents when you move), and each time you select units to move in your turn you have an overview perspective of the entire map.
NINJA'D!!!

Pst, we know, i found it easy and he made a simple mistake, dont be a douche.

Anyway, to the other point, yeah the difficalty was fine, the only thing that annoyed me was how swiftly a defeat can come out of nowhere the first time through a level - random reinforcements you didnt know about and the like - and how there's no checkpoint system, so failing a hour+ long battle is beyond frustrating. Moreover as i refused to let ANY soldier die, so i saw the game over screen twice as much via suicides than anyhing else.
