Making Steam itself compatible with Linux does nothing to make the Steam library compatible with Linux though.

Put simply, a SteamBox that can't actually run at least a majority of the Steam library is going to flop, unless it has major exclusives developed for it. A SteamBox that can run at least most of the Steam library either involves upgrading the hell out of WINE, or pulling a NESticle and pulling a fully-formed WINE-like but superior codebase completely out of left field (for those who don't know, NESticle was a NES emulator created by two guys who's prior creative output was pong with severed heads, it was dramatically ahead of the competition, was free rather than being sold, and just kind of showed up one day without a peep beforehand. It seriously pissed off the emulator development community of the time.).
Ah yes I see what you're getting at now.
So far only one game has been ported (L4D2), they might of ported more games without public knowledge but I guess we'll just have to wait and see to know if they gotta use WINE or if Valve has been porting more games.

I like the size. I've always wanted to make myself a small and portable computer. (as in easy to move around, not a laptop) But I've never had the drive to go out and look for parts that were both small and powerful enough for my fancy. And upgradind would be a *****. Plus the cost.

I can see a few problems though. For one it's either just a custom made pc in which case there is little reason for anyone with a decent pc to shell out the cash for it. If it's basically a closed system console style thing then what reason is there to pick it over the upcoming xbox or playstation versions?

Plus, unless it's very heavily modified Linux seems like an odd choice for a gaming pc. I get that you can play games on it but wouldn't it be much better and more cost effective to just use Windows? The system almost every game is made for? Assuming it works like a normal PC that is.

If it costs the same or just a little more as a modern gaming console and has the power of a modern gaming pc though, then I can see it being a smash it.

4Gamers.be was talking about a pricerange of 999euros. Everything above 600 is overpriced for that 'gadget' as far as I see it.
