That's the leading theory. -has been lurking on the Steam forums and following this stuff since Friday-

Sadly, I'm a console player, so I can't get involved with the whole Potato Sack thing. Which is a shame, I'd love to play most of those games.

I have the glados@home countdown open at work and notice 5 minutes ago it said it was "Engaging starch-based power cells" and the potato count at the bototm started dropping.

What could this mean? What do you think will happen when it hits 0??

I'm guessing the Potatoes gathered are going to be used to fuel GLaDOS better, since we weren't playing our games as much as some of hoped we would. Still, if this gets Portal 2 in most people's laps early, then who am I to complain?

Don't worry,nobody is getting special treatment,at least judging from our current progress. It's at 14 hours and counting so unless people pick up the slack,all this game playing would've been for nothing.

Well, for some people. As mentioned, the leading theory is that the 'infected' ARG members are getting it early as a reward for their involvement/being used to assess how lethal Portal 2 is when played by your average person.
