Sometimes, despite all the great things Valve has given us, from one of the most mod-friendly games in existence to Portal, it becomes difficult to see method in Valve's madness.

If you go back about two years ago, you can probably remember that bewildering announcment that there would no longer be a "Black Box" for all the new games for those who had already bought Half-Life 2 and Episode One. I'm surprised that there wasn't a huge back-lash to this announcement, as clearly it was Valve's way of justify making their core audience pay an extra 10 dollars for games they already had. Then this past few weeks, Valve implemented a convoluted unlock system in Team Fortress 2 that has only induced more headaches than the single class rushes that characterized previous class updates in the game.

Come E3, we expected the final installment in Valve's botched attempt at episodic content, and... hey... wait, hold on a second...

Oh... what the fuck, Valve?

Now, I'd feel a lot better about the L4D 2 announcement, had it been given at least another year, or if it was going to be part of some form of DLC. However, the thing that incensed me the most was that we've given Valve three years (remember that Episode 3 was announced to be in the works shortly after Episode 1 came out) and they've decided to already focus on something else entirely. For god's sake Valve, at least a story teaser with a flash of the G-Man's face and "Episode 3: Coming Soon" would suffice.

At this point, to say a gaming company has sold-out has become almost cliched. But unfortunately, as much as I loved the Half-Life series, there's no two ways about it this time.

I'm so sick of hearing about how Valve "betrayed" everyone. I think it's cool they're updating it so soon, just as long as they have enough good ideas to make it truly better.

You haven't really seen, played, or heard too much about L4D2, so you really can't say anything other than "it seems too early". You really don't know anything. I hope to God it's amazing so all you haters will be 'pwned' by your own stubbornness. Well, and because amazing games are awesome.

Although I'm not all for L4D2 (which sounds like a droid from Star Wars...) I'm getting annoyed with the boycotting and such, too. Yes, it seems very out of the ordinary for Valve, and I do think it was a bit odd that they didn't see some sort of negative reaction coming, but they haven't betrayed us.

The day they say "Half Life 2: Episode 3 has been cancelled because we believe we don't have a big enough fan base" is when I'll say they betrayed us. It'll also make me wonder how Valve was replaced by five year olds that can't count, but I'm sure you see my point.

Valve isn't one person, there are people working on L4D 2, Episode 3, TF2, etc. etc. - just because we aren't getting screen shots and trailers spoiling everything for us doesn't mean it's halted production so they can work on L4D 2.

The only thing I'm pissed about Valve is that it seems that another year is going to pass by and theres nothing of HL2:Ep3 apart from 2 concept arts(or 3...) released almost 2 years ago.

TF2 unlock system wasn't the end of the world, it was annoying but not game breaking.

Left 4 Dead 2 is not the end of the world, yes its annoying that its going to be full price, but the only game that was buying this year is Starcraft 2(if its released this year), so I really don't care.

But no Episode 3...ish...

$20 says HL3 is complete and this L4D business is engineered to direct attention away from it. Hell, it might show up in the L4D2 box.

It's the kind of crap Valve would pull, and I would love them for it.

Still, smug bastards.

This.

For fucks sake, please stop making whiny threads about how valve has "betrayed you".
They're not your best buddy or something, they're a corporation, whos main focus always has to be buisiness. I'm sure they have a team working on Episode 3 as we speak.

I'm hoping this is but a temporary stumble in their journey to further greatness in game development.

Though I assume you mean HL2 Episode 3, I've honestly been thinking the same thing. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if there was going to be "The Orange Box 2" and it would have Ep3, L4D2, Portal 2, and maybe the sequel to Minerva: Metastasis, since it's creator is now working for Valve.

Or maybe something all together new...

So wait, your actually insulting a company for coming up with new and original ideas over making a sequel? Now I will state that I think the L4D2 concept is a bit farfetched since the original game came out no more then a year and a half ago, but this is one thing. I don't think people should start pissing themselves because of this, get over it.

Excuse me for a second.

I want more something for nothing, why is valve not giving me more of the something I am totally entitled to.

This must be a sign valve is going crazy. Quick games are not Valve's style and thus a complete abomination that will crash, burn, eat my kids and then destroy the world economy!

Even though L4D was a quality game, well worth what I paid, and there is no reason to believe L4D2 will not be more of the same, I wrongly believe I was promised an extra game for free, thus I am outraged and voice this opinion everywhere possible.

Sorry, that is the sarcasm over. Move on. Thanks

Well truth be told, L4D was a good game and it reflected Valve's pedigree.

However, its no secret that Valve is terrible at communicating with their audience. I'm frankly a bit surprised they haven't canned Doug Lombardi for not translating the sentiments of their fans to the developers properly (the recent TF2 update is evidence of this). They are notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to releasing info on the state of a game in development, something thats been a constant source of consternation for fans. Hell, Valve doesn't even tell us in their fucking blog when a patch is coming out so people can prepare their Counter-Strike Source and Team Fortress 2 servers accordingly

If you knew anything about Valve, you would realize that the production of HL2:Episode 3 has nothing to do with Left 4 Dead.

Is this really your best argument? Instead of talking about the actual game, you complain about it coming out before Episode 3.

That sir, is too much epicness for one box to handle.

Yep, yep.

These guys are in control here, I can't say that I wasn't rattled by the L4D2 announcement.
But they have always come through for their fans in the past. And I seriously don't want to boycott the game!
