Coming this fall: "The Red Box"

Includes: L4D, L4D2, HL2E3, and Team Fortress 2

Valve's statement: "Yes, we are making you pay for L4D and TF2 again. What are you going to do about it? Huh? HUH?"
You forgot HL2, HL2:Ep1 and HL2:Ep2. And the fact that those games can be then given out as gifts through Steam..soooo you can always charge some money to your friends so you can gift your HL2 copies.

$20 says HL3 is complete and this L4D business is engineered to direct attention away from it. Hell, it might show up in the L4D2 box.

It's the kind of crap Valve would pull, and I would love them for it.

Still, smug bastards.
Wouldn't that be awesome though? You sit at your computer, open the case, and... wait a minute. Half Life 2 : Episode Three? Woohoo!

$20 says L4D2 won't be released for another two years.

Well, if we look at the numbers (according to Wikipedia):

Blizzard, employees: 2700
Current games in development: Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, new MMO IP, comes to 900 working on each project.

Ubisoft Montreal, employees: 1800
Current games (of particular note) in development: Splinter Cell: Conviction, Assassin's Creed II.

Valve Corporation: Approximately 190
Current games in development: Left 4 Dead: 2, Half-life 2: Episode 3 (?), additional Team Fortress 2 content. Comes to about a little over sixty developers for each project.

Maybe someone in EA ought to send Valve a memo that getting more bodies working for them doesn't dilute the quality of their games. The big bruisers in the industry like Ubisoft and Blizzard are proof of this.

If they're going to be charging $50 for it, it better be one hell of a cookie.

This assumes that Valve has not released Episode 3 due to staff limitations.

Haha, people are complaining about Valve?

Do you guys have insanely high standards or what? Seriously, I don't know any other company besides maybe Blizzard who go out of their way with free updates and such.

They've already patched up TF2 to reduced the 'headaches' of the unlock system: Now you can do both achievement milestones or by random chance. Item trading will also be implemented soon in the future, so if you SOMEHOW don't have the items yet, you'll get your chance.

As for L4D2, I do agree it was too soon to announced a sequel, but people act like Valve just abandoned L4D 1. In previews/interviews, they said they were still going to support the original L4D, and they said they want to find a way to allow both games to be played without having to exit/switch CD's/etc.

I think it's more likely Microsoft pushed them to announced L4D 2 so early. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Considering all the free updates they've given us before (TF2 is a great example of this), plus fan service and some serious community spirit, they're not worth complaining about. Yeah, Episode 3 is taking forever, but hey...I've seen worse. (Starcraft 2 anyone? 11 years man and still going!)

In Valve's defence: Name one other devolper which provides as much after release content as Valve? Did they charge for the DLC for Left 4 Dead? No. Team Fortress class updates? No. So the less you ungrateful moaners say the better. Let's face it Valve is one of the best if not the best video game deveolper of this current time. I think we should cut them some slack.

Oh and everyone knows that the spy got hold of their E3 presentation...put it this way Left 4 Dead 2 is actually Half Life 2 Episode 3. Promise.

That'd suck.

I can't even run L4D, how the hell am I supposed to run L4D2?! I just want my Freeman Fix.

I'd love to believe that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 is operating under the same sort of cloak that the most recent incarnation of Star Trek was before it came out. For example, the incredibly tight security that it operated within. I seem to recall an interview in the newspaper with Simon Pegg had, where he described his reading of the script having occurred while he was flanked by security guards.

Maybe Valve has purposefully failed to release any relevant data about Episode 3 in order to stop Beta versions, or even full versions, from being prematurely released to the public via "1337 haxors". See: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I'd say cause L4D is only 7 months old just jamming in new maps and new enemies into the exact same engine is basically paying for stuff that should be more considered an expansion.

Really, they didn't have to break the bank on this one and it shouldn't cost 50 dollars.

I believe they said they are making major changes to the AI director, among many other changes to the original game.

Still, I think the best way to protest this game would be to not buy it. Money speaks louder than words. Valve isn't going to stop production on this game just because some people on the internet complained about it.

I don't know about that. Have you see how many people complained when Ubisoft first demoed Splinter Cell: Conviction two years ago and how different the game looks now?
