Hmmm well I'm very happy with getting new games to play and I honestly don't know why it's a bad thing... I would also like to say that Valve is a very good company. They knew what they were doing when they updated the classes so that you cant just go into a server and get new weapons very willy nilly. Where's the fun in that guys :/. Yes new weapons are fun but isn't the anticipation and the hard work to get them fun as well? I love gaming and I love new games. So lets just enjoy what were given instead of complaining about it :)

Edit: Sry little off topic with some TF2

If you look at the end of the trailer it says "November 17". So it does'nt say 2009 but it probly is 2009.

The reason that Valve were able to make L4D2 so quickly was because of the AID2. Can't remember where I read it otherwise I'd link it, but basically it said production time was sped up because of the versatility of this tool.

At first I was shocked by L4D2 coming out so soon, but that doesn't change that it still looks pretty good (bit dissappointed with the new survivors - though to be fair they can't leave the original gang trapped in zombie infested area forever, and the new setting seems fun). And it's not like anyone who plays L4D wasn't going to buy another game for three years (sorry double negatives), so it might as well be this one. Seems to me that even though the "story" is similar with the new AID, the new settings, the new weapons, that the game mechanics will make it quite different so playing both will still be enjoyable.

As for HLep3... well here's hoping it will longer than the previous eps.

I'm so sick of hearing about how Valve "betrayed" everyone. I think it's cool they're updating it so soon, just as long as they have enough good ideas to make it truly better.

You haven't really seen, played, or heard too much about L4D2, so you really can't say anything other than "it seems too early". You really don't know anything. I hope to God it's amazing so all you haters will be 'pwned' by your own stubbornness. Well, and because amazing games are awesome.
This.

Just because everyone expected Episode 3, the think Valve betrayed then.

I don't feel betrayed, but EP3 is slowly turning into the next DN Forever, just without the information or leaked screenshots.

I personally would like to see Episode 3, and feel that Half-Life deserves better than this after everything it has done. Other than that, I dont much care about Valve.

I certainly feel the same about everyone complaining about them as I do all the Valve fanboys who rush over and try to defend Valve.

Its just looks to me like a contest of who can either get their boot or their tongue further up Valves arse.

Coming this fall: "The Red Box"

Includes: L4D, L4D2, HL2E3, and Team Fortress 2

Valve's statement: "Yes, we are making you pay for L4D and TF2 again. What are you going to do about it? Huh? HUH?"
The Orange Box had HL 2 and Ep 1 for a reason. To reintroduce the storyline to people who haven't played it. If the Red Box actually existed, then L4D and TF2 would have all the DLC on the disc.

I'd love to see Episode 3, although to be honest, Valve really isn't in any real rush. They're developing L4D2, and the engine for Half Life 2 Episode 3 is already locked down. So they really aren't in any rush. They could if they wanted to next year, put out Episode 3 with the L4D 2 engine (it's just an updated source engine to my knowledge.)

Valve is as perfect as a mainstream gaming company can get. They created their own content delivery system which works amazingly well, they put out games which are almost universally hits, they wrap in extras which are good if not great (seriously, HL2:DM was fantastic but it took them too long to get it stable), and they pay attention to the community. So much of their success is allowing people to do what they will with their games then stepping in and developing them (see: CS and TFC).

You shouldn't complain about L4D2; it's nothing more than an expansion with a '2' on the end, so Valve is justified in making it quickly.

Steam is the biggest pile of shit I have ever seen, and I refuse to install it on my PC.
What? What do you hate about it so much? It's improved immeasurably since the old days.
I do agree with you that it's pretty annoying how most people cream themselves over anything by Valve though. But people over-rating things is always gonna happen, and really it's just a matter of taste.

Here's the question I'd like to pose about the L4D2 controversy. If the content that would be made for a sequal (meaning that we have an amount of additional content equal to or exceeding that in the orginal game) were instead offered as DLC for L4D, would people complain? If not, how about if they attached a price tag of say 20 bucks. If people still say that's all well and good, would you pay 50 bucks? 60?

It just seems that, if one is going to expend the man hours (which equate to some quantity of money I'm sure) to produce a huge amount of additional content, it is not unreasonble to expect that some sort of charge is applied. Or am I the only one who doesn't think it unfair that a company wants to charge for content above and beyond what came in the box?

Now, if I were instead downloading content that was required to resolve game bugs (and nothing mroe) for a price, then I'd certainly join the picket line.
That's a fair thing to say, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to present a counter-argument; while many companies would expect repayment for such things, Valve releases free updates just to entice more people to get the original game. $50 is more than $10-15; so getting new players into the game overall for each update, plus a hundred articles of positive press for them, often works in their favor. Besides, they've already sort of set their own standard for updates for a game.
(I'm only going to summarize what I said in another thread) Basically, games like CS:S and TF2 both got their content levels basically doubled over a lengthy period of time. TF2 started with 6 maps, and around NINETEEN have been added since then. That's about TRIPLE, so it's very fair to ask for those 5 campaigns and 4 characters to be part of a free update.

Valve is a company and all they want is money. They were so nice in the past, to make everyone give them money not because they are so super cool. If you feel betrayed now, know that you were gullible from the start.

Gonna summarize something from another thread which MIGHT actually be a plausible explanation for L4D2 (though only one of these threads should probably exist)

Any 360 player without a decent computer has been very left-out recently. All the TF2 updates have been coming out for free, and Valve has said they plan on releasing them all together on the 360. But since Microsoft has the brilliant logic of "Bandwidth == $$$", they won't let these updates go out without people shelling out Microsoft Points.

Valve didn't want to alienate the playerbase, and so came up with a new idea for L4D2. They could make significant upgrades to the game as well as add new content, and both the 360 and PC would be able to get it simultaneously, without the need for just one to be paying for it.

I'm still a little annoyed that such steps had to be taken just to appeal to Micro$oft. (no, I don't normally spell it with the $)

Personally I'm just pissed that they promised so much for L4D DLC, then all they do is sit in their office and rub their naked bodies with all their money. Seriously, even paying $10 for a couple of new levels or characters would be fine, just not a new, full-priced game that is exactly the same with new flashy colours and a couple of weapons.

People paid good money for 4 levels and one batch of DLC. I'm feeling so f-ing ripped off that I'm not buying L4D2 until it's in the bargain bin.

Sometimes, despite all the great things Valve has given us, from one of the most mod-friendly games in existence to Portal, it becomes difficult to see method in Valve's madness.

If you go back about two years ago, you can probably remember that bewildering announcment that there would no longer be a "Black Box" for all the new games for those who had already bought Half-Life 2 and Episode One. I'm surprised that there wasn't a huge back-lash to this announcement, as clearly it was Valve's way of justify making their core audience pay an extra 10 dollars for games they already had. Then this past few weeks, Valve implemented a convoluted unlock system in Team Fortress 2 that has only induced more headaches than the single class rushes that characterized previous class updates in the game.

Come E3, we expected the final installment in Valve's botched attempt at episodic content, and... hey... wait, hold on a second...

Oh... what the fuck, Valve?

Now, I'd feel a lot better about the L4D 2 announcement, had it been given at least another year, or if it was going to be part of some form of DLC. However, the thing that incensed me the most was that we've given Valve three years (remember that Episode 3 was announced to be in the works shortly after Episode 1 came out) and they've decided to already focus on something else entirely. For god's sake Valve, at least a story teaser with a flash of the G-Man's face and "Episode 3: Coming Soon" would suffice.

At this point, to say a gaming company has sold-out has become almost cliched. But unfortunately, as much as I loved the Half-Life series, there's no two ways about it this time.
Yeah, you're absolutely correct, there's no way that a massive games corporation which has been running for 13 years could know what they're doing more than you. It's ridiculous how you claim to love their titles yet write them off as a lost cause as soon as they announce something you don't like the sound of.

I don't know if it's good or bad but watching an interview Valve said they were working on L4D2 in January
