This is will only be of interest if it becomes possible to actually buy these points in store for cash, that way you don't need to use a credit card at all which could be convenient for a lot of people. (Sorry if that's the entire point, you just weren't exactly clear on where you could purchase these points)

Also I opted into the Steam beta after reading this but can't see any mention of points rofl.

Its never an issue for me. My cards details are saved on there.

Yes its a stupid idea, no i don't care. I'm a college kid, i'm constantly broke anyway, what are they going to take, the £20 i was going to throw at them anyway? :p

Can't be any easier for me to buy things on Steam with the fact that it remembers my CC, so that I don't even have to go through the step of buying points and then buying the game. In fact, having to purchase points (which I know Steam won't do, but XBL does) tends to make me less likely to buy something, not more. I might think I want a game, but then when I get to that point buy screen I always reconsider my purchase and as often as not decide that it can wait.

Still, if this is just one more option for payment on Steam, no reason not to go for it, as long as they never make holding some Steam Point balance a requirement. The idea of Steam gift cards is a good one.

This is a terrible idea. I like by a game at it's exact price, it's what decides if I get it or not. I don't want to have to pay £10 for a game that is £6, sometimes that £6 is all I want to spend, or I can't afford to spend more (in this example).
And it doesn't make anything more convenient for anyone; just join PayPal. You can't get more convenient than "free".

Now they just have to release those card things at Gamestop or something and then everyone will lack a excuse to use Steam for buying games :p

Other then the fact that they dont have money

Just a thought: Could this be related to Steam's upcoming début on the PS3? Consoles seem to love "points".

Now that would be useful.

Because quite a few people don't like doing transactions online. Which is understandable. Hell for Steam I've been using pre-paid credit cards.

There's also the fact that Steam only requires you to click two buttons, and check one checkbox.
What Andy says isn't actually true, you don't neccesarily have to move for your credit card to buy anything, I got mine saved to the account...

So will the points system be just like the PSN Wallet where it tells you the actual amount or the idiotic 360 pricing where £4.25 gets you like 500 points.

Kinda useless to me since my Direct Debit works perfectly fine with Steam and only takes three clicks.

I remember trying to use paypal before, took the two weeks for the account to be set up and then my bank declined the request. Never bothered with it again.

I propose that Xbox gamerscore be used as points. (Achivements will be worth alot less) But I always assumed this was the case before I bought one.

Because with all the flack lately with PayPal and the very heavy amount of restrictions, regulations, and policies that surrounds it, many people don't like using that payment method system.

Besides, just think about it for a minute. Say these Steam Wallet things come in cards that will get sold at 7-11, Walmart (god forbid), and even possibly Gamestop (even more so worse off). So, you've got kids that don't have credit cards that can now instead ask their mommies and daddies to buy them these cards so they can purchase the games they want off of Steam; they're already doing it now for PSN and Xbox Live, this just helps expand what's vastly becoming the universal PC social system.

That's a good option. I technically own a credit card, BUT, it's something more of an electronic wallet. See, I don't even own a bank account, but I can still fill my card with money (up to $650), so it won't appeal for me, but still it's a good idea and I always wanted to see something similar to XBLA on Steam.

It's a great idea, I'm happy. I probably won't use it since I can use Paypal in conjunction with my bank account (don't have a credit card) but it's great, I guess, for people who can't use Paypal for whatever reason. Good game, Steam!

Damn you, Steam!

Seriously, though, this is a great idea for everyone. It (probably) allows gifting points and it's more secure than using a bank card, plus Valve gets rid of some credit card purchase fees, which either means they make more profit or they can give us even better deals in the future.

The only thing that gets screwed is our bank accounts!

...must not click "buy"...

D'oh.

this works perfect for gifting money instead of a game that a friend or family member won't like / use it's a good idea, has it's flaws but a good idea none the less
