The Xbox is gimped. Microsoft forces developers to charge for content. Patches need to be reviewed, so they're not very common. I think only Epic was able to push out some patches, but that's because Gears sold a lot of consoles.

But even Epic wanted to release new maps for free. That's how they've always down their Unreal Tournament games and their post-product support was stellar. Microsoft said no. They did manage to get a sponsor for one map pack, and I guess MS has relaxed restrictions allowing DLC to be free after being on the market for so long.

There was another issue with the Marble Blast Ultra game. In that game, people could go faster by carving out the corners of their controller to allow more diagonal movement, which in turn allowed a person to travel faster by traveling forward and sideways at the same time (a 40% speed increase!). The developers wanted to patch it, but incidentally they had also produced some new content and MS said they'd have to charge for it. So that update never happened.

And now it's happening with Valve, another company known for good post-product support.

anywho, they hate consoles. They really do, so you might see those updates.....at a cost in like maybe a year? Hopefully, if not then you can just forget it. Sorry.

They are trying to get it on a small size so it fits on the xbox harddrive..

its not valve's fault as I understand it, its microsoft's fault!
Also your paragraph was really difficult to read, I'm aware of the hypocrasy thank you!, also I should have capitalised valve and microsoft.
It's really not Microsoft's fault. Valve want to add a significant amount of content to the game, plus add a load of balance changes, and they want to do it for free. Now, ever since the Marketplace came out, added content has to be paid for, that's how it's always worked, no other developer has any problems with it. Valve seems confused, they're talking about releasing a new disc instead of just doing it as DLC, which seems counter-productive to me. Trust me on this, Microsoft is definitely not to blame.
They kinda are if they are going to charge for content that a company is willing to distribute for free.
Why are you blaming MS for it, when it is obviously Valve's decision... EA's Burnout Paradise released tons of free new content, so it is not like that is unheard of. If they release it as updates instead of DLC (things like balance changes should be), then there is no reason to charge for it...

I knew i'd bet jumped on for this. I'm not saying MS is perfect, it would be nice to get stuff for free, but it just doesn't work like that. I'm also not saying that Valve is completely to blame, it's a combination of both. What i'm saying is that just blaming MS isn't right or fair. In my opinion, Valve is more to blame for this. They're trying to bypass a set of rules that, while they may be flawed, have been there for a long time and have always worked. By trying to force these updates through for free, they're causing more problems than they're solving.

If you want to see what the situation's really like, have a look at the 360 section of The Orange Box forums here

I read that the patches wasn't allowed to take more than 8 mb if they where supposed to be free.

Beside I doubt Burnout Paradise got, new weapons, achievements, maps, game modes and even more maps in ONE package.

TF2 updates are just large and contain gameplay changes which MS don't like. So MS wants to charge for it. Valve at least made it 10$ last time I heard they released a patch.

Valve have said that they don't like the PS3 but that was because it was hard to code for and had a little market at the time. It's still hard to code for and they don't have people who know how to code for it. If they did they would start to patch up the PS3 version. Because EA certainly ain't doing it.

For the 360 version they ran into problems. Like running out of RAM, yes the 360 doesn't have enough RAM for a game like TF2 now. So if they are going to update the game they are going to need to rewrite the whole game. Which will take time.

I read somewhere that it's because Microsoft wants to charge. Valve claims they want to make the update free. Also I'm pretty sure they gave up on PS3.

It is Microsoft's fault they didn't want to give the update for free all other b.s.

I had to get TF2 on Steam. It's worth it. imo

It's because the 360 has limited memory so they are finding it very hard to fit in the new stuff.

Valve turned you in to a panda? Those monsters!

On a more serious note, Valve is dedicated to its PC players, but they seem to not care much for there console players. It's sad really, companies should take care of all their fans.

Did anyone else notice the update in the last week that happened when you booted up Orange Box? Since that's happenend, classes are sometimes locked and there seem to be some other quirks. My hope is that maybe this is part of their efforts to increase available space or prep for the DLC packs.
That was an appalling 'update' which didn't fix anything at all.

I find it amusing how Valve thinks host controlled class limits, which are usually abused to give the host a huge advantage (snipers vs demomen anyone?), is more important that bug fixes and game breaking glitches.

Definitely agreed that the "update" was total garbage. You'd think at some point they'd at least fix all the glitch abuse. As for the class locking...extremely stupid and abused with the mid-game changes. Who wants to play a class-based shooter if you can't utilize the variety of different ways to play? My hatred of the pyro remains, but it doesn't mean it should be removed when the host gets upset.
