OT: No, they're not selling out. As has been said, the extra content is free and they take money off of the price.
And Signa i love Valve. I know they werent money hungry whores. They made some amazing things im just wondering of why so much for L4D2? Why all this hyping for that game when none of the others did?
No, I'm well aware of what a business is. What I'm saying is that when said business starts screwing over it's primary consumer base in order to make more money, then they've become greedy douchebags, esp. when their profit margins are already in the billions anyway.Demented Teddy said:I'm afriad the two of ye don't understand what a business is.canadamus_prime said:That's only acceptable to a point, after that it's like 'no, they're greedy exploitative fucks'.Demented Teddy said:Uhm......they are a business.
Businesses are set up to make money.
Otherwise they would be called a "non-profit organisation"
Can I point out one small thing?thornussell said:Im talking about Halo wars, Halo ODST, Halo Reach, Halo books, and who knows what is more to comesasquatch99 said:Are you talking about Halo Wars here? As my last off topic post on this subject, yes Microsoft sells fucking eveyrthing they can to make a quick buck and i hate them for it, but by some grace of god i still buy there products like a dumbass sheepsasquatch99 said:Can I point out one small thing?thornussell said:Im talking about Halo wars, Halo ODST, Halo Reach, Halo books, and who knows what is more to comesasquatch99 said:Are you talking about Halo Wars here? Bungie had nothing to do with HW, MS took the licence and gave it to Ensemble Studios to make it. Bungie couldn't stop MS doing that, which was a shame.
I'm not sure on the book front as I don't read them. I liked Halo: ODST and I swear they have said Reach will be the last game under their control before MS takes it where they want it to go.
I'll leave you guys alone now, I've gone slightly off-topic.
No no no no im not saying that at all, hell im so glad they didnt do that. Im just saying about all this shit being offered for just pre- ordering the game but i found out maybe my thinking is wrongblackhandops said:i dont see the problem here, are you complaning that they didnt decide to make extention packs to go with the game, i mean if they were money whores they wouldnt have put out a l4d2 they would have made 4 or so, 1 mission extention packs that cost $10 each and then realeased L4D2. they are not madden who release a game with absolutly no change every year. they released a sequel to their original. good for business and for gamers
Valve has done plenty to make the world a better place... facial expression software to help development of perceptive skills in autistic children, American Sign Language expression in graphical systems... selling the Orange Box at the same price as a single Triple-A title...thornussell said:With Left 4 Dead 2 being released Valve has been doing alot of hyping for it. Valve being one of my all time favorite gaming companies but with the release of all the extras for preordering L4D2 its starting to seem like they are going for money. Now this may be EA being the money hungry whores that they are but does anyone have any insight or information or just basic opinion (this is not for flaming about how L4D2 sucks and all that bullshit i want legitimate opinions and thoughtful points of views, not just douchers being douchers.)
Well there was the demo but that is available to everyone now, the baseball bat if you get it from gamestop as wellGreenansatsu said:Am I missing something, I just don't see how offering a free hat is selling out the player base and becoming an evil company full of money hungry corporate sharks who wear suits.
I mean if anything I see it as a thank you to the fan base. I mean a lot of their pre-sales and sales for L4D also played TF2, obviously again a lot of those same players are going to preorder or buy L4D2, why not give them a free hat as a nice way to say, thank you for supporting us.
Also OP what other extras beyond the hat are you talking about? The hat is the only one I've heard about.
I agree.Mr.Black said:This thread is dumb.
In a business way of thinking with it being a cheaper game with small extras the amount gained from those suttle things in turn makes them earn more money. Also know as a simple marketing technique.feather240 said:I agree.Mr.Black said:This thread is dumb.
How does giving away extras with a cheaper copy of the game make them greedy?
Bungie is actually very dedicated to their fanbase. Their fanbase is however made up of people with less creativity than a brick.thornussell said:Well yes i understand they want to make money but for an example, Bungie would be and example of a whore who uses the license for there game to create a massive revenue and really cares nothing about there fan base. Valve has been known to care alot about there fans and not just try to make money but try to make games that they want and to take care of there massive fan base.Demented Teddy said:Uhm......they are a business.

I think it's more of an exclusivity trend with games. I've noticed that Gamestop is the company generally offering these bonuses. In this case, a preorder would gaurantee a sale for both Gamestop and Valve, along with a small incentive for the customer. Games are incredibly expesive to make these days, around $15 million on average. Game companies have to ensure that their copy will turn a profit, just like any movie studio. If they have to include extras to get customers to buy a copy, then they will.thornussell said:In a business way of thinking with it being a cheaper game with small extras the amount gained from those suttle things in turn makes them earn more money. Thank you, I agree completely. I've always been a fan of the Halo universe along with Bungie's other works, and I don't consider their latest releases as "selling out" in the least. Bungie is the type of developer that now has such a strong fanbase that they really don't NEED the Halo title on the game to sell units. Their newest releases and joint work with authors and other game studios simply expand the game's universe. It would be akin to bashing Gene Roddenberry for being a sellout because other people wrote Star Trek books.neilsaccount said:ON THE POINT OF BUNGIE, i beleive that arguments stating that they are sellout assholes, well, isn't true. They stretched the series as far as they have because KIDS and/or other Halo obsessed people asked for more content. They werent going to make halo odst until the fanbase whined and cried like little girls until they received their next feeding. Bungie did not sell out. As for halo reach, they have had this in production a looong time, coinciding with working with halo 3. Concerning ODST, they felt they didnt give enough content so they added the entire halo 3 multiplayer with all maps, and a beta for reach. I am not a halo fanboy nor do i wish to be, i just think you guys are underappreciating a company that works hard

The bastards! Well, they'll be getting none of my money for Episode 3!DjSehvun said:If memory serves me right, all of these "extras" you speak of are free. You also get the game 10% for pre-ordering it so it looks like you're saving money.
Wait, what's that? Valve wants you to buy their game so they're putting out incentives? Greedy whores!
