Yes you can noclip straight to the item you need no problem. I do it sometimes when I'm replaying it and don't feel like taking the time. There are two or three places that can actually kill you not counting a physics engine glitch though, so don't neglect quicksave completely

Turn up the gama levels, nothing is scary if the mansion is basked in daylight.

I found the Hollywood sewers creepier than Ocean House. They're both only creepy the first time you play them though.

I always thought that that level was funny, mainly because it was a place meant to haunt humans, you aren't a human thus nothing to be afraid of.

Ah, yes, that mission is a bit scary for me too ! But imho, the "Paging Dr. Grout" quest was more creepy. Don't torture yourself, but that game is really good so you might want to keep playing !
