as a Vancouver resident I saw the riots on television last night and would like to apologies on behalf of Vancouver for what the world had to witness after Vancouver's loss most vancouverites aren't like that and it wasn't all 150,000 that were rioting most of those people were trying to get home and I'm sorry that the world had to see that violent minority and they're tasteless actions and hope that not everyone uses these riots as a stereotype for the people of British Columbia

Do what now? Oh, you must be talking about the hockey game. I was kinda hoping Vancouver would actually take the cup, but I didn't watch it.

Secondly no one would think that all people from Vancouver are like that anyway.
You sure about that?

Anyways, half my Facebook wall is buzzing with "I'M ASHAMED TO BE CANADIAN!" right now, and while I'm not ashamed, this is pretty embarrassing. So much for "Canada: The Country of the Peaceful and Polite".

And because they didn't, a Boston Bruins fan has been beaten to death.

At that point, you get apologies like this.

Those riots weren't real.

We all know Canadians aren't capable of violence.

Seriously though no-body is going to assume the whole city is like that.

It was actually the postal workers who are on strike right now. This pic proves it. (ignore the story just look at the pic)

Sure they can try to blame it on hockey fans but those people aren't the type that are prone to violence.

Whoops, I took something on the internet at face value. Sorry.

http://modernright.com/possible-death-of-boston-bruin-fan-during-vancouver-riots-warning-graphic-photo/

It's a photo of a Bruins fan who looks pretty bad, if not dead. There's to many conflicting reports for us to know what happened at the moment.

O RLY? That's a fantastic joke man, remember it for when you need to break the ice at a party.

I'm sure the strike exacerbated the riots marginally, but to think that sports fans aren't the rioting type... Clearly you don't follow sports. Even though I don't, all I ever hear about is who won and who rioted.

Pfft you vancouver folks don't know how to riot. remember a couple years ago when Edmonton made it to game 7 finals? heck we were rioting in our streets after game 4.

Come one province over and we'll show you how to riot! we'll flip so many tractors!

I wasn't really invested in either team to be honest, My roomate was just happy to see Kaberle get to hold the cup (He's a die hard Toronto fan).

Thomas is a much better goalie than Luongo anyway (or at least more consistent) in my opinion

But yeah sports related riots happen all the time, it's what happens when you fill a city with drunk people all hoping their team will win it big.

Thanks. That picture was perfectly timed for me today.

Ya.. (note the dripping sarcasm) I really don't follow sports at all.

Truthfully, I'm surprised that Vancouver is still standing given how they went through the playoffs. Their sports fans can be completely nuts. I lived through the last riots downtown that nearly tore a rift in the fabric of the universe. For those who don't know. Thurlow and Robson is the end of the world. There are two Starbucks kitty corner to each other. And both are packed. The last big sports riot ran down Robson. I'll have to find the video of the guys jumping up and down on the Starbucks signs.

*Yawn* Montreal would like to have a word with you how to properly celebrate a hockey game, as I'm beginning to feel bad for the riot cops there as they probably too busy preparing to watch any playoff games anymore.

Also, to OP: I wouldn't fret it much, as to be honest Sport Team riots aren't the most uncommon thing in the world. Hell, Montreal alone has had 5 major newsworthy riots related to the Habs, and as someone else mentioned there are the lovely football hooligans of Europe.

Honestly i don't see it as a bad thing against the city per se, as it's more a thing against sport fans. They are usually a wild, loud and alcohol soaked bunch, and definitely passionate about the local sports. In a large group it usually takes just one person or small group to change the mood of the mob, regardless if it's premeditated (as I've heard stories of yesterday's being) or a spontaneous matter.

Well at least no one died. I just thought this guy was mad at his hidden checking fees.

Shouldn't be surprised tho, didn't riots happen after the Canucks lost to the Rangers in, oh what was it, 94?

Indeed they did.

OT: I'm Canadian and I'm not all that embarrassed... Then again, I'm from Quebec. Our hockey riots are legendary. This whole thing will be forgotten by next week.
