I'm sorry but the Ref's did not throw this series one way or another. Yes the suspension's were way inconsistent and skewed in Boston's favor, as well as the general media coverage (I'm looking at you Bite-Gate). And yes, NHL Playoff Ref's are usually very suspect (I'm a Wings fan BTW), but ref's cannot sway scoring of 21-4 (the aggregate of Boston's four wins). Vancouver played very poorly tonight, they didn't have great puck control, all the best chances they had at an open net occured when the puck was just outside of stick reach, and they took generic shots. They never controlled the flow of the game and the Ref's didn't change that. Hell there were only like 3 penalties tonight (as well as 1 or 2 that should have been called) which is a far cry from the buttloads we've been seeing out of these twoTheDutchin said:Im a canucks fan and i gotta say, id be rioting if i lived there. we were the better team but the refs had better have been bribed, because if that was them trying to call the game fairly i fear for future games with them reffing, and we were really let down. we care about our hockey up here and we are p-o'd that it went this way, we were so close, only to have it snapped away from us. we have waited for 40 years now and we had a great shot, we should have won, but we couldnt get a bounce, and the refs just grrr.
Right, the refs totally made Tomas block all your shoots. Its more than just refs when you look at the scores of the games boston won. You don't deserve to win unless you win, simple as that. Bad calls happen on both sides and you just take it as part of the game.TheDutchin said:Im a canucks fan and i gotta say, id be rioting if i lived there. we were the better team but the refs had better have been bribed, because if that was them trying to call the game fairly i fear for future games with them reffing, and we were really let down. we care about our hockey up here and we are p-o'd that it went this way, we were so close, only to have it snapped away from us. we have waited for 40 years now and we had a great shot, we should have won, but we couldnt get a bounce, and the refs just grrr.
As I remember it, there was a large amount of police and RCMP on the streets and lots of roads were closed to prevent this from happening. I'm surprised that they weren't better prepared for this considering this happened in 1994.Atticus113 said:Yeah, my girlfriend is from Calgary and she says the Flames' fans weren't even close to being this bad =S
Ya you can hardly say the refs were against the Canucks (I am a Canucks fan btw) I mean did you see the hit to the head on Chara? Comon if anything they were trying to make the Bruins lose. Thomas was just too good and Vancouver played a lousy game. Sad but true.Lionsfan said:I'm sorry but the Ref's did not throw this series one way or another. I don't live in Canada. All I see is a news story about a couple of over turned cars and a fire and it being called a riot. Thanks for some clarification on how it has escalated since, and yes you are being quite over defensive about it, because the post was first of all a joke. I don't really want to go up there and show Canada how to riot. That would be absurd.HorizonRadar said:I live near Vancouver (Maple Ridge) and I have friends and family living downtown. I'm watching what's happening on the news right now and I'm sorry but what constitutes a riot for you? People are injured, people've been stabbed, and I can assure you it's more than "just a fire" as there are molotov cocktails being thrown around. It's absolute chaos!manaman said:A fire? Just a fire, a few smashed windows, and a flipped car or two? I feel like I should head on up there and help my northern neighbors figure out what a real riot is like.
I know I'm being extremely defensive but come on... there's no need to say that.
Vancouver would have rioted weather they won or lost. That city is wound up like a spring.Deadman Walkin said:http://edmonton.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110615/bc_stanley_cup_riot_110615/20110615/?hub=EdmontonHome
I mean come on, I know hockey is a big thing (I do live in Canada) but when the Flames lost everyone just went home sad. Why the riots?
Last real chance for the Canucks to win it for a loooong time.Deadman Walkin said:http://edmonton.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110615/bc_stanley_cup_riot_110615/20110615/?hub=EdmontonHome

Downtown Vancouver has been sealed off. Police in full riot gear and mounted police officers have been deployed. Looting and fighting everywhere. People are throwing things at police and burning police cars. Even a couple hours ago the smoke from downtown could be seen quite far away. There is reports of stabbings and the hospitals are on maximum alert.manaman said:I don't live in Canada. Pretty much everything surrounding Van is like that, downtown not so much.Deadman Walkin said:Funny, I have heard that they are the mellowest place in Canada do to all the weed.Antari said:Vancouver would have rioted weather they won or lost. Probably not, as though Montreal is known to be a city where Police Cars all but spontaneously combust every now and again, Habs fans seem to reserve their enthusiasm for when the team wins series and cups. Oh, I'm sure there have been isolated incidents here and there, but the major newsworthy ones were definitely wins.Tiger Sora said:Guys.... just be thankful that this isn't Montreal. They'd burn the whole city there if they lost the cup.
Yeah the downtown looked like a warzone on tv. I left the area with 4 minutes left in the game and pretty much as soon as the buzzer rang ppl near the jumbotron/gigatron/megatron threw on masks and started tipping cars and lighting them on fire.arsenicCatnip said:Latest update from a friend: banks and major department stores are being looted.
