Y'know, I'd respect that sort of thing a whole lot more if they'd just nut up and make them all naked.

If you're gonna try and sell me something with sex appeal, why be half hearted about it?

It's the reason I kinda like Baynonetta. Say what you will about it, at least it isn't pretending to be anything else.
Except when they do 'nut up and make them all naked' they're likely to get even more perverse about it, adding in some tentacles and rape and the like!

It's a really weird thing this type of content has going on. They shamelessly throw female titillation all over the place, yet any notion of actual sex they lock tightly away behind a steel chastity belt. I always think that this sort of stuff can't be healthy for a developing male adolescent, and though I'm sure its much more complicated than that some of the social problems they have in Japan around sex could indicate I may be right.

And then for a good measure likely add the line by an onlooker going "I bet some sick pervert somewhere is getting off to this." (Now if they do that, there's a good chance they're really just taking a piss and not trying to be subtle about it at all)

The game is Vanguard Princess, a fighter with an all female cast. Do you think that this type of fan service is needed to sell it. If they were clothed, no panty shots, no schoolgirl outfits, no swimsuits, no cleavage popping out, would it sell?

This video proves a point, sex sells. The amount they got on steam from this game is by far any sales they would have had in the past. But the question is, would you bother with a fighter that didn't have these obvious and glorified cliches if it was only a female cast?
Well, your video example sort of proves a point in terms of the game trying to use fan service to sell its IP.

After looking at a few videos on YouTube (both standard play and tournament play), I can determine that this is an average fighter at best. It's bright, it's flashy, and the animations are smooth and spot on, but in terms of there being any substance that would appeal to any fighting genre player outside of this niche market, I don't see it happening.

There are plenty of other better fighting games that include a female cast, some fan service, and are definitely tournament worthy. Arcana Heart and Skullgirls are prime examples of this.
