More Warcraft heroes...yay...

Actually, to be fair, the trailer was well done. Overall, it's been a pretty good BlizzCon, even if the Diablo community is going spastic that they won't be able to get the necromancer for free along with everything else that'll be added for free to D3.

Oh, and happy birthday I guess. :)

Probably the two most requested Warcraft heroes, too.

It's been a while since Hots added a character I was truly interested in. Looking forward to playing the shittles out of Rag and Varian.
Was there ever much demand for Ragnaros? Varian, I don't doubt, but never seen much for the other guy.

Anyway, I'm well aware that Warcraft is by far the largest universe, but by the time Ragnaros is released, there'll be a total of 30 Warcraft heroes, 13 Diablo/StarCraft heroes (13 each), 2 Overwatch heroes, and 1 Blizzard Classic hero. I'll save you some time and give a figure of 30 Warcraft and 29 "other," where one franchise has over 50% of the roster.

Much as I like Warcraft, variety is the spice of life and all that. We haven't had a StarCraft hero since Alarak, a Diablo hero since Auriel, there's nothing from Blackthorne or Rock n' Roll Racing yet, etc.

I'm kinda pumped to see these two new hero in action. Varian seems to be able to switch between classes mid-game, although whether it's a choice thing on leveling up or some sort of ability I don't know. Either way it's something new. Meanwhile among other things Ragnaros seems to be able to take over structures to defend them raid boss style? That's AWESOME!

Also the trailer was pretty wicked. Probably preferred it over the Overwatch trailer even, if only for visual spectacle alone.

By far the best trailer they have ever made for this game, It is really well done. I also need to get back into heroes of the storm, I like it but the combination of a lot of common problems of Modas (20 minute long matches, being curve stomped for that said 20 minutes and The toxic nature is really Annoying) but I guess a good time to get back into it.

Anyone else get the sense that the trailer was implying that after being killed by Gul'dan, Varian goes to the Nexus, which is kind of like a Valhalla to him? At which point he gets to fight against Ragnaros (and other heroes) for eternity?

It's a pretty good trailer all the same, definately one of the strongest hero reveals the game's had.

Am I the only one that doesn't like Varian? I feel quite contrarian when I write this but I liked the 'old' Warcraft as portrayed in the RTS games more. I realise that it might not be an entirely logical opinion now that I try to put it into words. For me they feel more 'down to earth' and 'gritty' and Varian with his two-splitting magical sword, dashing facial scar and for me manga inspired hair represents Warcrafts, through World of Warcraft, ascent into more of a... fantastical and super-heroic fantasy.

I know that Warcraft 1-3 had these types of larger than life characters running the show with quite a lot of fantastical fantasy but it felt as if the lens applied through storytelling tried to portray it differently.

I'm not going to slag anyone for their opinion (well, mostly), but I'll agree to disagree. I've played all three of the Warcraft RTS games, and per the above comments, I can't recall there ever being a time where Warcraft was "dark and gritty." Not outside a few Warcraft II cinematics (burning bodies, end of the Horde campaign in Tides of Darkness, maybe the dragon turtle scene), not to mention that Warcraft didn't really have any kind of story until Warcraft II*, and not any proper characters** until Warcraft III. If anything, Varian is an example of how Warcraft has retained elements of darkness, considering that he dies in the midst of a demonic invasion, and dies in a most horrific way as that.

Even as someone who doesn't play WoW, I like Varian as a character, especially as I've watched it develop over the course of time. Part of why I like this trailer - taking it as occurring after his death at the Broken Shore, it demonstrates his character by not hesitating to fight against Ragnaros.

*Yes, I know Warcraft I has a story technically, but it's so over the place and sparse that it's barely worth discussing.

**As in, with personalities, character development, etc.

That's always been my biggest complaint about the game as well, for exactly the same reasons.

Apparently the same thing happened to Uther after Arthas killed him. :p
