Everyone appears to be video capture'n for fun and thanklessness. I feel left out. Perhaps even left behind ( Kirk Cameron you can't help me because you're not real ). I once bought myself a Game Cam program so that I could get on that boat with all the rest of the capturers but quickly realized: this destroys my frame rate on my perpetually budget-PC so thoroughly that I cannot tolerate nor game in any honest capacity and the idea was left at that.

So, my question remains: How can I board the video-capture-of-gameplay-boat? Are there economical alternatives to popular real-time capture programs like Fraps (which give me the aforementioned "unplayable framerates" ) or is it merely a matter of having a PC rig that snacks on Crisis^N and competitively self-gratifies with benchmarks?

PS: I can quit any time I want and you're not the boss of me.

Bandicam is better than fraps IMO, no FPS drops if I fiddle with my graphics (Slightly). I myself was gonna record some LoL matches for fun but my squeaky ass chair made it in the audio so I'm scrapping it till I get a new chair.

Capturing is gonna be hard on your computer regardless of the application, but here are a couple of programs you can look into:

Dxtory: http://dxtory.com/ *Seems to be OK, haven't tried it all that extensively.

Open Broadcast Software: http://obsproject.com/ *Designed for live streaming, but you can use the local capture mode. See "Game Capture Mode"

The best way you can get improved performance is by recording at a lower resolution/framerate. Say if you have 1920x1080 native try recording @ 1280x720. A larger framerate is better of course, but also important is consistency, 25fps is fine as long as it's consistent.

Good luck!

In my case its simply that i dont have the spare memory for videos, that and my PC is starting to fall behind so anything i record will look like arse.

I use a non-folding deckchair. I often have to put a cushion in it though.
