I'm sure this thread has been done before, but I'll play along.

Hot female sidekicks, (Half Life 2, Dead Space, RE5)
You can get away with comparing Alyx Vance to Sheva this time, but that's the last one...:O.

The whiny young protagonist in JRPGs who is somehow tasked with being kick ass and saving the world. Part of the reason why I like Lost Odyssey, for breaking that cycle.

Also, Master Chief. Charmingly enough, that TV tropes site refers to cliches are things that are "dull and uninteresting". Just like Master Chief then....

RPG cliches:
-Spiky-haired protagonist
-Earnest/clueless female lead
-Amnesia a key plot point
-Events foretold by prophecy
-Random battles
-Orphaned party members
-Airship travel
-Underage heroes
-Technology is evil
My own stuff:
-Health and ammo randomly lying around
-Civilian shops that sell military equipment
-Screen turning red to show loss of health
-Enemies aimlessly wandering around ramdom areas
-plot involves distictly evil villain who only hires distictly evil henchmen at a severe cut on quality

Lots of health and ammo just before a boss fight.

Always, so you know it's coming.

Characters that have godlike powers but as soon as you need that god like power the loose it.

the main character is actually the "chosen one"

Enemies know where you are regardless of what happened. They could find you if you were in a collapsed cave 500,000 feet underground.

You can't wear the extra-protective armor that your enemies wear (Most, if not all FPSs).

Regenerating health.

Guns are less powerful than a slightly bigger than normal wolf (Final Fantasies and other RPGs)

Scaled enemies.

If there is a resurrection item in game, you cannot use it if a character gets killed off (RPGs)

The ultimate weapon in any case scenario either needs a ridiculously short/long amount of time to "charge up".

The good guy will lose in the beginning of a battle with a big baddy, but by the Grace of God, the enemy will reveal a weakness in their indestructability (RE bosses, rail shooter bosses).

The first evil guy you see is actually a puppet of an even more bad-ass antagonist.

Mobs of enemies have no group tactics (i.e stand by explosive crates/barrels/whatever), this happens less with the advancement of A.I.

There's always a "greater good" that you have to do.

Sidekicks always die or disappear when you need them. Same thing, really.

Vehicle sections/underwater sections.

That's all I got for now.

The tough macho guy that swears a lot / is black

The tough macho chick that rejects all penis and emotion. and kicks asses.

Family tragedy

YOU MUST SAVE THE WORLD!!!! [Why cant fixing your own problem be enough? why cant killing the guy who killed your father or what have you be enough. Rather you have to fix the whole damn world.]

You're the most powerful demon/ninja/warrior/soldier/robot ever, yet level 1 enemies can still kill you with a little skill.

Peter molyneux's mouth.

That's my contribution.

-Obligatory fire, ice, and water levels in platformers.

-Androgynous, amnesiac 12-year-olds for heroes in JRPGs.

-Bottomless pits.

-The ability to be a walking arsenal without sacrificing movement speed (less common nowadays).

-The final boss turns out to be an old friend.

-The wise mentor will either die or turn evil.

Aww dont include HL2...at least Alyx is a good sidekick and doesnt drool all over you all the time...like every other game that has a female sidekick that isnt named Alyx.

For my cliche I'll go with Evil dude thats trying to destroy the world just cause he is evil.
