Hi internets! I've been lurking around the escapist forums for quite a while, and did a quick search to see if there was any late compilation of some good video game cover bands, and couldn't find one here. So, I'm looking to load up on game cover band mp3's and need suggestions. Destructoid promo'd MegaBeardo's Ledjent of Zelda recently, and that's great stuff! I definately prefer metal, but all else is worth trying. What's good?

Metroid Metal [http://www.metroidmetal.com]. You wouldn't be able to guess from their name, but they make metal covers of Metroid songs :)

Armcannon [armcannon.bandcamp.com]. Their songs are mostly based on NES/SNES era games, but there is other stuff in there too, including a few non-game ones.

Also, it might me worthwhile to check out OC Remix [ocremix.org].

Basically, it's a big database of video game remixes covering a wide breadth of different games and genres. Admittedly, most of it is electronic music, but there's quite a bit of rock/metal in there too.

Thanks for the help. I found Metroid Metal last night, it is pretty awesome. I'm gonna go check out some Arm Cannon, and I wish I'd thought of OC Remix! Extra Credits features a lot of their stuff... I should probably just go through the EC backlog to find some good ones.

No mention of Jim Cook I see, he did two albums covering Zelda tunes in a heavy metal sense..

There's this Chicago-based band called I Fight Dragons. Pop/rock with video game hardware accompaniment. Here's their guitarist, Packy, standing in front of a bunch of Chicago landmarks playing the Tetris theme.

If you like acapella, you might like this guy's stuff.

It's quite varied and very well done.

This guy is such a baller. His popularity seems to have exploded as of late. He came out of seemingly nowhere.

All you ever need is OCRemix. That site is audio heaven.

Not technically a cover band, but man do I love the protomen. The hounds is a personal favorite of mind.

And no The Megas yet? what is this?!

Although, ironically, I think that song I just linked is one of their few songs that is not a cover.

Fun Fact: The Message from Doctor Light by The Megas was referenced in the official Mega Man Archie comic, and played as the background for the official Mega Man Universe trailer.

I'm not sure if it's technically a "cover band", but it is a band that was inspired by a game:

Who'd think that one of my most favorite games inspired a deathcore band? :p

EDIT: You might not want to listen to/read the lyrics to this if you haven't beaten the game. The song pretty much sums up the entire game's plot.

My additions to this thread would be The Black Mages though since it is in fact a band that includes the original composer, it might be cheating. For fans of Final Fantasy before they started going downhill:
