Who here appreciates video game music? Sure, the EC team sent us on a nostalgia trip long ago with their episode on the progression of VG tunes, but they didn't even scratch the surface of what is out there.

So, what are some of your favorite songs in video games?

A few of my personal favorites off the top of my head:
Concept of Passion from Ollie King [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou-xCHFdG0c]
Devil May Sly from God Hand [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCcYLjOfWbQ]
Beauty Archive from Child of Eden [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8au5lRW-g0&feature=related]
What U Need from Sonic Rush [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx0CQDc2rMU]
Theme from Mass Effect 2 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOvwAYLWO88]
The Moon Theme from Duck Tales [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF32DRg9opA]

The music from Team Fortress 2 is fantastic. It doesn't play during actual gameplay, but, still.

Ah the Halo theme. One of the few pieces of Western Video Game music with a sense of personality.

Well Final Fantasy games always have great music. From One Winged Angel to the simple background music. Don't think I haven't noticed that the Jimquistion uses some music from FF9 as his background music and I noticed the EC crew using a few other FF songs in their videos on occasion.

Shadow of the colossus' soundtrack is amazing.

Okami also deserves a mention.

Final Fantasy VIII, all of it.

Although it's got to go to "Force your way", I'd post it, but I'm on my iPod and it's terribly annoying to do so.

Personally my favourite series when it comes to video game music would have to be the Dynasty Warriors series. The way they blend classical Chinese instruments with more modern rock and metal music is done so well, it makes the shift from the heavy sound during battles to the more peaceful sounds in the menus so much more better.

Dynasty Warriors 4 is the best example...
Mix of Chinese and metal:
Heavy music for when you're out on the battlefield:
Peaceful music:

Also this one from Dynasty Warriors 5 made the ending narrationsperfect:

Another VG music thread? I'll just copy my response over:
Mostly from ME1 and ME2:
Most of this is just 4 notes played over and over again, yet it's so well done, portraying the scene, sadness and triumph perfectly.

to quote from the top youtube comment on the video:
"Every once in a while, there's a rare magic moment in game when soundtrack, game play, and story align in sync and make for a moment of unforgettable immersion. Running through gunfire on Virmire to this track was one of those rare moments for me." This.

both of those are missing from the OST for some bizarre reason. See the above video, It's the same feeling, but not to the scale virmire did it. Those 2 songs still makes adrenaline go through me as I play.

Everything from Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC was awesome, but this song I feel was the best. It suited the pacing and the scene so perfectly.

Because, chanting isn't done enough and well enough in games.

Any song off the scott pilgrim vs the world video game. Anamaguchi really went above and beyond recreating a nostalgic feel with amazing 8-bit music

Getting a lot of great responses.

I know it's a probably a cliche' type of thread, but I do enjoy some appreciation in video game music.

I claimed earlier that Western games really can't ever try to compare to Japanese video game music. Sure Fable, Halo, and Mass Effect are notable mentions, and Scott Pilgrim reminds me of a better time, but nothing gets my attention like the Shadow of the Colossus music posted above. Anyone want to prove me wrong?

Phoenix Wright obviously. It just feels so good getting in that objection.

That's pretty classic music right there.

I have to say Castle Crashers. All soundtracks are ripped from Newgrounds user accounts, but honestly, if you didn't think the Necromancer boss battle was epic with that track playing you've got a few screws loose.

Cabal Online has the best themes I have ever heard in a game (free or not). I go back to this every once in a while simply because of the music.

That's a matter of personal preference. Shadow of the Colossus is pretty much the ONLY Japanese video game with a soundtrack that's appealed to me. Though people rave about the Final Fantasy soundtracks (more so than other JRPGs or Japanese games), I find them really dull.

But from more recent games (that haven't already been posted), here are a few examples that I really like...
